Manta
The Island Cuttlefish
*Threat Level: Average
Habitat: Oceans, typically surrounding the Great Atole.
Neutrality: Neutral
Size: Very Big
Passive or Aggressive: Passive, unlike their Kraken cousins, the Manta rely on more helpless/fooli
sh prey to feed on.
Common Attacks
Tentacles, Manta are less dangerous than Krakens, but still retain multiple powerful limbs (Numbering 8) to squeeze the life out of their victims.
Parrot-Beak, Manta beaks are strong and sharp, although considerably less powerful than a Kraken's beak.
*Camoflage Mastery, Manta are best known for their ability to appear exactly like a small plot of land outside Coral Reefs, giving them the ultimate in surprise tactics. This color changing is perfect for natural pigments, but has flaws when unnatural oceanic colors are nearby.
Description
Manta are gigantic relatives of the Kraken sea monsters. However they are far less aggressive and are rather harmless until provoked. Unlike the squidy appearance of their cousins, Manta are more like giant cuttlefish. Their diet consists normally of large fish or rays which mistake these giant monsters for docile animals as most large sea creatures are krill filters. They lay in wait and then strike with their tentacles, reeling in the largest and most foolish fish. Sometimes Manta will even purposely attract Echeneis swarms to them so that the fish will attach themselves to their bodies, giving the Manta a ready supply of fish eager to stay with it and oblivious to the cuttlefish's desires. Although fisheaters, they will make exceptions to those that harm it and have been known to kill sailors who've tried to spear them. Not much of a threat, but still a danger to be wary of when sailing near coral reefs.
