First Competition: Valcore vs. Fawkes

Valcore galloped in on Starkus into the new arena where he was expected to battle Sir Fawkes. He had just come from the jousting competitions in which he had claimed victory over Sir Callohan. Dismounting his steed, he examined Fawkes who was preparing for the duel. Fawkes was an elf and appeared incredably agile by the way he displayed his moves as he practiced. It was an odd thing, that it was. Honestly, it had been a long time since Valcore battled an elven pure blood. He drew his sworn, believing that the time to battle was ariving soon. He took off his armor for more flexibily and agility, which would gain him an advantage, but his opponant seemed to have light armor more of a leather brand that provided the same thing almost. He wasn't caked in it like Callohan and Fawkes seemed to know what he was doing. Valcore developed some respect for the elf upon realizing that this duel was going to be worth it after all.

Standing straight towards the side with sword held ready, Fawkes glanced over at Valcore in a stern fashion, but then he smiled gently as if to show that he wasn't as careless as the others. "Are we ready then?" he asked softly. He held a grace like the rest of his elven race, though he didn't seem like he could be easily angered. He was as sane as sane could be.

"Well," Valcore replied calmly, "I'm ready for this if you are. Just let me know when because this is different from the jousts. We don't have those irritating trumpets." He twirled his sword backwards signifying that he was bored and wanted to play with his metalic toy. He's deffinately sane, so this should be rather enjoying. I can't be easy on him though. He's as pathetic as the rest of them. They always are.

"Then lets do this," the elf said, stepping forward into the circle. He brought himself into a defensive stance to protect himself in case Valcore decides to do something sudden.

"No, let's get it over with. Honestly, I'm tired of standing here. Time to get it going." Like Fawkes predicted, Valcore made the first move, attacking with force into Fawkes' sword, but it was intentional. He was planning to use enough strength to overwhelm his foe to gain an advantage. Since Fawkes wouldn't budge, the Shade kicked Fawkes in the chest, tossing the elf back onto the ground. Without giving his enemy the chance to recover, he dashed forwards and swung his sword. Fawkes had immediately gotten to his feet to block the blow.

For a time they forged a series of attacks that eventually became blocked or dodged depending on the form. Fawkes was fluid and graceful compared to Valcore's merciless movements. It was deffinate that the duel had become grace versus strength, though the outcome remained yet unknown for a time. Valcore found an opening where he made a large gash through Fawkes' right calf and one over the inside joint of his elbow. The wounds crippled the elf gravely and the battle was declared over as Valcore poited the tip of his sword at the throat of Fawkes who had fallen onto the ground. "This is over. Well played. That was quite entertaining, Sir Fawkes." He sheathed his sword once he whistled for his horse. He mounted onto Starkus and, as he left, the announcer cried. "Sir Valcore is the victor!". Fawkes just sat there on the earth, quite stunned, and watched the Shade vanish in the shadows for the Maze of Fear.
