HBO: Game of Thrones review

Game of Thrones is the name of the first book in the truly epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The first book was taken and made into a TV series for the premium cable channel HBO.

The series did a pretty good job of translating most of the text into a visual format, considering that they had to condense/omit/change some of the plot points in order to make it fit into 10 one-hour episodes.

This series is not for the faint of heart. Nor does it follow the predictable pattern of "hero(es) save the world and live happily ever after." In fact, the story and plot is the real focus in this series, not any individual or group of characters.

Without giving too much away, suffice it to say that it is worth watching if you can catch reruns on TV. Otherwise, it's a must-buy DVD.

It has already been slated to go for a second season (which means it will follow book 2: A Clash of Kings - but will likely just be called Game of Thrones again).

I gave this series 4 stars instead of 5 simply because I read the books before watching, so my expectations were far higher than what was presented. I also thought following most of what was happening was somewhat difficult, especially if you didn't read the books.
