Chapter 4 Suspicions
Chapter 4
Wulf sat at the tavern with his frothy beer. He looked around at everybody else who was satisfied with the alchemist’s work. Something didn’t seem right about it to him. Why all of a sudden did Crowe claim to have all of life’s answers?
“He solved everybody’s problems!” Batte cheered, raising his glass into the air.
Luna likewise thrust her glass of beer into the air, toasting to the alchemist. “To many more years of Crowe’s guidance!”
The bar sang out, “Here, here!”
Wulf cleared his throat, commanding the attention of the room. “Alright, I’ll admit that everybody in the village that had sampled the alchemist’s miracle potions seems to be showing what they lacked before.”
“You speak as if you don’t approve,” Luna frowned.
“I just don’t think it is right. Something is fishy about the miracle elixirs you’ve all been drinking,” Wulf shrugged.
“Are you suggesting something terrible?” William demanded. Crowe was by far his closest friend.
“I’m just saying that not everything is what it seems,” Wulf said evenly, not wanting to offend anybody.
“What are you implying?” Hare, the town elder asked. He was smoking a pipe in the corner.
“Well, let’s see what the alchemist can cook up for me, without me telling him what I want!” Wulf challenged.
“Alright, fine. You’ll just prove that Crowe is helping everybody,” Vulten murmured, walking out of the tavern.
