      Saturday’s suck

The week seemed to fly by, and it was Saturday before I knew it. I looked at myself in the mirror, and shook my head. Kylie…I can’t believe you allowed yourself to do this. Mom had told Dad that I was going over to David’s… God knows what going through his head now. I was given strict orders “not to do anything stupid.” The thought of my Dad saying that made me roll my eyes.
David told me not to wear anything girly…not that I really had anything that girly anyways. What kind of friends does he have anyways? To put an impression on them…with ME. I looked in the mirror again. “God…” I replied, scrunching up my nose. I looked horrible. I’m the girl in school who wears all the bright colors…like yellow, or green. And now look at me…I’m in all black.
“Would you stop complaining? You look fine!” David called out to me from outside the bathroom. He’s the one who picked out the damn outfit in the first place.
“I’m not complaining…I’m whining.” I said, opening the bathroom door.
“Well…stop whining then.” David smirked.
“If you would just let me wear what I want to wear…maybe I wouldn’t be whining.” I shot the smirk right back at him. He rolled his eyes and walked down the hall to his bedroom.
“Quit being a baby.” I followed him through his doorway and flopped down on his bed. “Just because you don’t like yourself in that much black…”
“I look like a…”
“You look like a what?” David asked, his finger tapping against his computer desk.
“I don’t know, but it’s very noticeable that I’m not who I’m pretending to be. Does it look like I’m a bad girl? No, I don’t think so. They are so going to know.”
“Who’s they…and what are they going to know?” Our conversation was cut short when four guys about David’s height and age walked in the room.
“Dan…” David nodded at the one who was talking. Dan glanced over at me, and then back at David, raising his eyebrows.
“Uh…Kylie… this is Dan, Mike, Kent, and Tony. Guys…this is Kylie.” David pointed out all the guys to me. I knew who Dan was. Mike was pretty tall with dark hair, Kent was shorter than both Mike and Dan, but taller than the shrimp, which was Tony.
All the guys continued to stare at me, and I could feel my temper starting to rise. I hate it when people look at me. “Take a picture, it’ll last longer.” I commented.
Mike made a sarcastic face. “Picked up a cocky one didn’t ya.” I didn’t like these people, I really didn’t like these people. David knew it, and I bet the four assholes knew it too. Then again, they all probably hate me too, so I guess it evens out.
In the hour that passed, the guys had settled down either on the bed or on the floor. I had moved to leaning against the wall, somewhere near David. Dan struck up a lighter, and lit a joint, offering it to me. I shook my head and waved it away. He rolled his eyes, but said nothing.
I can’t tell you how long I was in that room before I started to choke on all the smoke that was being created. “You know, you’re going to have to open a window…the smoke will start seeping under the door.” I replied, moving towards David’s window on the other side of the room. Dan stud up right as I got there, stepping in front of me.
“Who said we wanted the window open.” I pushed him aside and opened the glass panel. I looked back and Dan and then snatched the joint from his hand, tossing it out the open window. (David had no screen, obviously.) “You bitch!” Dan screamed at me, pushing me backwards. I grabbed onto the window frame to keep from falling over. David stood against the wall, watching us.
“Get over it, I think you’re high enough.” I snarled, getting my balance back. Tony and Mike snickered from on the bed.
“You did it now.” Kent said from his position on the floor. I flicked him off, and turned my attention back to Dan. His fists were balled up, and his knuckles were turning white. I look a step back from him, so if he swung a punch, I would be just out of reach.
The sound of the phone ringing, made me jump and look away from Dan for a split second. The next thing I knew, I was being pushed up against the wall, a hand holding tight to my throat. I let out a shriek of surprise and gripped Dan’s thick wrist.
“You don’t fuck with me.” He hissed into my face. I tried not to gasp for air, not like I could breathe in the first place. Dan’s grip got tighter, and all I could really do was look at his rage struck face. Suddenly, David’s door burst open, and Dan let me go with one swift movement. I dropped to the floor, coughing.
“Kylie?” David’s sister Page said in confusion. I sat back on my heels and brushed my red hair out of my face. I tried hard not to run to her and hug her tight for saving my life. Page looked at me suspiciously and then looked at Dan. She looked me up and down. Page knows me well, we’ve been friends ever sense David’s family moved to our small town of nothingness. She knows that I never wear black this much. She shot a glance to David, but then looked back at me again. “Kylie, your Mom just called. She said it was urgent.”
I pulled myself to my feet and smoothed out my black button up shirt. I was doing my best not to cry, or to reach my hand up to my throat to make sure that it was still connected. As I passed David, I glared at him, I was hating his guts right now. Page looked me up and down as I reached her. “God Kylie…” She whispered. I tucked my red hair behind my ear.

                                * * * * * * *

Kylie left almost immediately after Page burst into my room. Invasion of privacy if you ask me. She didn’t even knock. I walked over to the window and watched her as she ran from my house. It’s like her Mom was just waiting for her to come out, because a car pulled up right as she reached the end of my driveway. Kylie walked up to the divers side, and the window rolled down.
I swear, I was so confused at the look that appeared on Kylie’s face. It was pure horror. I’ve never seen Kylie so broken down and full of terror. She put a hand over her mouth, and took a step back, shaking her head.
Kylie got in the backseat and her Mom sped off in the car. I didn’t know what to think. What the hell did her Mom just tell her? What could devastate her so much that she would almost fall to the ground in pain? I may be high, but I’m not stupid.
