Java Kaikura's room is well-lit by a large window taking up much of the outer wall. The other walls are practically wallpapered with J-pop bands and anime posters. There's a bureau with speakers on it across from a big bed. A cell phone sits charging in a corner. The bookcase provided isn't enough to carry all of her mangas, so there are stacks of them at the foot of her bed and strewn at various places around the room. CDs sit stacked next to the bureau, most of them J-pop. There's some fantasy metal and some classical, and lots of game music, especially from Final Fantasy. Barely visible under the bed is a burnt bag with holes in it.
Java burst into the room and flopped down on her bed, staring at the ceiling. So far, things were working out pretty badly. She didn't land right getting there, and in the danger room she was utterly useless. Already, there were people who were more effective than her. She got up and locked the door and closed the drapes. Flopping back on the bed, she took off her shirt and picked at the membrane that stretched from her pinky to her hip. "Maybe I should just go back home," she said aloud, putting her shirt back on. She considered it for a minute, but then got up and started unpacking. "Nah, it's a little too early for that. I might not be useful for the X-Men, but at least I'll learn how to control my power."
....Bored of staring at the ceiling, she got up and got her iPod, going downstairs. Humming, she skimmed out of her dorm to go float around campus.
Later,
Java glided back in and threw the drapes open, a big grin on her face. She set her iPod down, a little releived that she hadn't needed to use it, and threw open her bags. She brought out her speakers and put her iPod in, blasting Shiina Ringo J-pop in a teenage fashion. She glided from one corner of the room to the other quickly, touching down often to change direction, and very shortly she had everything in order. She suddenly stopped in the middle of the room and regarded her handiwork with a critical eye. "...Huh. I'll have to get some more posters! There are still empty walls! And the feng shwey is TOTALLY off. Ah, well! I've still got a week before school starts to set everything up right and proper!" Satisfied with that, she clicked off her iPod and glided back downstairs to talk to people.
Java came back in, closing the door behind her and locking it before flopping down on the big bed with a happy sigh. She reached underneath the matress and pulled out a flowery InuYasha diary, unlocking it with the tiny key counterproduct
ively still attached to the diary. Flipping it open to a new page, she bounced over on the bed to her iPod and started to play some more music, but not as loudly as last time. Getting comfortable resting her back on the backboard of the bed, she began to write in swirly writing all about her morning, a smile still playing on her lips.
Having walked down the hall and knocked on just about every door, Joselyn didn't even bother to knock gingerly as she connected fist with door, hoping that she would have found Java's room by now. She stood back, arms wrapped around Harold as she waited to see if someone would answer or if she'd once again knocked on an empty room.
Java flinched and uttered a startled yell at the THUMP on her door. "Jeez!" She yelled back at it, clutching her diary to her chest. "Who are you?" She asked, almost crassly, annoyed at getting startled at the attack on her door.
Excited and relieved that she'd finally located Java's room, Joselyn pressed up against the door with Harold. "There's a cute cthulhu named Harold out here," she said, loud enough to penetrate the thickness of the door. "Oh, and I guess Joselyn too." She stood back from the door, not wanting to fall into Java's room when the door was opened.
"Oh! Hold on a sec!" Java called back, rushing to lock her diary and restash it under her matress. She bounced off her bed and wrestled the door open, holding it with an outstretched arm, one fist behind her back. "Hey! Wassup?" She asked, a big grin on her face.
Joselyn smiled and waved Harold's hand at Java. "Nothing much," she said and held Harold out to Java. "He miiiiiiisssed you. Want to meet up with David out in the school yard? We kind of left Amy and Mort high and dry, though I could live with that normally, I'm feeling strangled by my conscience today. And then maybe later we can catch a taxi to town for apple pie, eh?"
Java made a small squeeing noise and snatched Harold from Joselyn's hands, squishing him in her embrace. "Awww, I missed you too, Harold!" Her eyes squinted up into little happy black arcs, revealing her Asian heritage. She looked up at Joselyn, not releasing her relentless hug on Harold. "Sure! Might as well let them know we didn't do it on purpose, right? Ooh, pie!" She took control of Harold again and made him hop about in excitement. "Finally! The Crawling Chaos approves!" She gave a winning grin, holding him out proudly. "Let's do it!"
Laughing and hooking her thumbs under her belt, Joselyn took a step back from the door and waited for Java to exit and shut the door before heading out to the school grounds to meet up with David, Amy and Mort.
"Hold on a sec," Java called, running in and grabbing her iPod before gliding out the door, shutting it behind her without a thought to lock it. She glided out to the school grounds, Harold clutched safely under one arm.
Java glided over to her door, leading David behind her. Her stop this time was a little more graceful, and she was surprised by how nicely it worked out. She turned to David. "Here it is!" She opened her door, never bothering to lock it when she left it, and stepped into her room, beckoning David to join her.
David wait for her to go in before he followed her inside. He looked around a bit and looked a little impressed, a little freaked out. He set Harold on her bed and went to take a gander around the room. "I take it you're into Japan..."
"A little," Java giggled. "When I get older I want to move there. I'm trying to learn Japanese, but it's really hard." She flopped down on her bed, grabbing Harold again. She bounced across it to get to her bookshelf where all her manga was stored. "Let's see...." She skimmed the books for something that might interest him. "Bleach, Evangelion, Fruits Basket, Love Hina, Death Note, Trigun, Berserker..." She looked back at him and beckoned him to join her at the bookcase. "See anything you might like?" She asked.
David picked up Death Note, remembering that's what Jos was reading. "What's this about, anyway?" he asked, flipping it over a couple times before realising the back was the front, and then looking at the real back to see if there was any kind of description.
Java grinned at his choice. "Oh, Death Note! It's about this kid named Light who picks up this book that a shinigami--- a death god-- dropped, and basically if you write someone's name in the Death Note that person dies the way you write it. It's really good," she vouched confidently.
"Would you mind if I borrowed it?" David asked, flipping through it and nodding a little. It looked interesting enough.
"Go right ahead!" Java replied enthusiastically. "I've got pretty much the entire series, so when you're done with the first one you can borrow those."
"Have you really read all of these?" David asked, looking around her room at the manga scattered everywhere.
"Pretty much," Java admitted. "There are a couple that I bought that I don't really like, and a few I have yet to get to cause I haven't gotten that far in the series that I bought ahead for, but for the most part? Yeah." She shrugged, grinning.
"That's crazy," David responded. "I don't read very much," he added, looking for a place to sit down.
Java saw him scan the room and she offered her bedside with one hand. "You can sit down if you like," She said.
"Java, you're trying to seduce me, aren't you?" David said, looking at her bright-eyed and taking the seat on the bed, wiggling his butt in it to get comfortable.
"What?!" Java protested incredulously. "Why would I seduce you?" She giggled and crossed over to put some music on her iPod.
"Because I'm a sexy man-beast," David replied as if to him it seemed obvious. He flipped through Death Note, then looked over at her, watching what she was doing.
Java simply laughed at him, not because this wasn't true, but because he had the ego to outright say so. Shaking her head and smiling, she asked, "What kind of music do you listen to?" She cycled through her playlist on her iPod.
"Polka. Polka and death metal, that's all I like," David smiled. He looked down at the manga and then out through her window. He suddenly brightened up, but then looked confused and left the room without previous notice.
"That's...a weird combination," Java laughed, still looking through her music. "I don't think I have any of that." She looked over at him and found that she was talking to herself. "David?" She called as the door closed. "Hey! Where are you going?" She glided quickly out the door, shutting the door absent-mindedly.
There was knocking at the door followed by the sound of fingers tapping on the door. "Java? You awake sunshine?" Joselyn called from the other side of the door.
A sort of moaning sound replied as Java buried herself deeper into the covers. She muttered something unintelligible in her sleep, having a particularly good dream and trying to hang on to it.
"You know you want to get up and come outside with all of us," Joselyn said through the door, still softly tapping. "We can even stop and grab you a slice of apple pie from the dining hall on our way."
"Princess hasn't signed the waivers yet," Java replied loudly, in a very slurred voice. "Can't go nowhere till th'vixens have their cheesehoses."
Joselyn made a funny face at the door and shook her head at Java's half awake rambling. "Come on, sleepy head! I swear you're the last person still in bed," she said.
Java muttered some more and convinced herself that it was for the benefit of the kingdom that she escape from slumber and plunge into the waking world. She crawled far enough off her bed to fall with a thud on the floor. Some more incoherent mumbling and noises and she opened the door, facing Joselyn in pink piggy pajamas, groggy eyes, and hair going every direction known to man.
Joselyn had a huge smile on her face and she held up her hand, waving at the sleepy Java. "Morning beautiful," she said, horribly cheerful.
Java grunted in return, squinting at her. She turned, letting Joselyn into her room, and grabbed a few things from her clothes bureau. She reached over as an afterthought and clicked on her iPod, playing the theme from Metal Gear Solid 3. She smirked softly and gestured at the bed and at the bureau for Joselyn to hang out for a minute, she'd be right out, and she went into her bathroom to change.
Joselyn sat down on Java's bed as she waited, glancing out the window wondering if Mort was still floating around the grounds.
After a few minutes, Java came out fully clothed with a brush, attempting to tame her wild hair. "Morning," she finally replied, a small, sleepy smile on her face. "I ws'just sleeping in to catch the end of my dream, is all."
"Well, you were missing all the fun that's going on outside," Joselyn said, smiling. She stood up and headed for the door. "Come on, David's showing off his invisible pony, Princess Sassypants!"
"Aw, kickin' rad!" Java burst into grins. "Lead on, my good friend, lead on!"
"Onward!" Joselyn declared and headed out of Java's room and to the school grounds.
