Joseph Campbell: Hero with a Thousand Faces review

Joseph Campbell presents in his research the archtype of the hero of the myths. It is an interesting description of the monomyth, what it is and how it is shown in the different cultures and their religions.
The book also includes detailed depiction of the journey of the hero: how he leaves, is initiated in the new world and how he returns as a new man.

This book is for you, if you're interested in the religions and myths of other cultures. It also includes good pointers for us fantasy readers - how a typical fantasy tale follows this exactly same path of the mythical hero. I read this for my doctoral thesis, and got some interesting pointers.

Though many of the myths and stories are analyzed by using Freud's psychoanalysis, which might be annoying if you don't like to rip your texts in the tiny bits and spoil the enjoyment of the tale (and myth) itself.
