The Kingdom of Layfette

"Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl who was very kind-hearted and loved by everyone in her village. She worked hard every day to spin wool and cotton into thread needed to make clothes for the villagers, and helped the sick, elderly and hungry souls she came across. But a wretched hag, who was jealous of the girl, stole her away and used magic to imprison her on an island in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by deadly sharks. The wise prince who ruled over her home village heard of this dark deed, and he quickly set out to find her. He sent her a message in a bottle, and it read,
Beautiful maiden,
I do not know you, but you know me. I will find you, on my life I swear. Have hope, keep faith, and watch the stars.
The princess got it within a month on the tide, and she did as the letter asked. Every night, she counted the stars, and during the day, she watched the clouds, waiting patiently for whoever had sent the letter to find her. She waited for two long years. Just when her hope had dwaned to its last, and she was preparing to give up, she heard a sound from above. On the beach, ready to throw herself at the mercy of the sharks, she paused... and in the clouds flew a massive pirate ship. It let down a ladder to her, and once she finished climbing... There stood the handsome and wise prince. He explained to her that it had taken him two years to perfect his wonderful flying ship, and that he was giving it to her.
'So that you may see the world at your leisure, and live amongst the clouds, where all angels belong.' he said. They fell in love, and had their wedding over the ocean. For the rest of their lives, they traveled the world together in that ship. Rumor has it, that the ship still sails in the clouds to this day... If one has faith and watches the clouds long enough."
Dyllin smiled from where he had his face nestled against Samiya's round belly, his arm around her waist and a hand holding her gently. He chuckled and pulled back from where he felt a kick against his cheek. "I think she liked the story." he said to Samiya, smiling at her adoringly.
"Of course she does, no one tells that story better than her father." Samiya replied with a soft smile as she ran a hand gently over her bump and felt another kick. "But try not to get her to excited, she might decide to join us a little early." She chuckled before smiling at Dyllin again. "Now what's on our schedule today?" She asked as she slowly and awkwardly got to her feet and moved to pour herself a glass of water. "Maybe we could go for a walk, it would be nice to get some fresh air and you could ask Aarin to come along too. He's been spending far to much time alone up in the library, I'm worried about him."
Dyllin watched her, a little disappointed that she'd moved away and taken away his fun. He very much enjoyed laying there feeling the baby kick. He had always enjoyed that sensation, even when she was pregnant with Aarin. He sighed though, and moved to get out of the bed as well, coming up behind her and hugging her, his hands resting on her belly again. "Well, Ihara is supposed to be here today. He's bringing us gifts from Cuole for the baby and he wants to help us set up for the shower." he nodded, kissing her shoulder lightly. "But don't worry about Aarin, he's not doing any harm." Even though he shared that trait in common with Reise, Dyllin's evil twin brother, he knew that Aarin wouldn't have access to any of the dark tomes and stories that Reise had. They had all been locked away by Anaita. "I'm sure Eon and the sprites are watching out for him." he nodded with a warm smile down at her.
"This child is going to have a tremendous amount of gifts before she's even born." Samiya commented with a chuckle after she had taken a drink and placed her hands over Dyllins on her stomach. "But I'm sure Iharas gift is going to be beautiful especially if its elvish made. Maybe he can help distract you as well, you're getting to that very over protective stage again that you had when I was pregnant with Aarin." She shifted around until she faced him with a smile and a raised eyebrow. "Me and the little one are perfectly safe you know." She placed her head against his chest and hugged him the best she could. "We should get ready, I don't wish to greet Ihara in my nightgown." She continued jokingly.
"Alright, alright." Dyllin chuckled, only after hugging her tightly in return and kissing the top of her golden hair. "Sometimes I think you don't really like being cuddled and kissed..." He was teasing, of course, and his playful wink told her that. He gave her butt a small spank and turned to find some clothes in his wardrobe. "Why don't you take a nice hot bath and I'll go find Aarin?"
"That sounds like a very good idea." Samiya replied after pushing him playfully as he moved away from her. "You go find my boy and tell him I look forward to seeing him. Try and encourage him to go outside as well, spend some time with people his own age." She moved to his side and leaned up kissed his cheek before turning and moving to the bathroom. "I'll meet you in the dining hall for breakfast when i'm done. Bring Aarin with you." With that said she disappeared into the room, the soft sound of her singing drifting out soon followed by the running water of the bath tub.
Just outside the King and Queen's door, Iswe stood, stoic as ever. She didn't often leave their side, that or the side of their child, Aarin. A few guards passed by her, giving her sharp nods. Licking her lips she stared down the hall for a few seconds, then down the other way. She noticed the captain walk her way with a frown on his face. Crossing her arms over her chest, she straightened her back and stared straight ahead.
The Captain came to a halt in front of her and sighed deeply. "Iswe--"
Iswe shook her head. "I don't want to hear it."
The Captain's kind face appeared in front of her eyes, causing her to flinch and look away. She had a hard time looking into peoples eyes anymore. The moment she made eye contact she would do anything they asked, usually. "Please... take some time off. Go away on vacation. Something. Your sister's... everyone is very worried about you. You take no time for yourself anymore. It isn't healthy." At his last words the Captains tone turned stern, causing Iswe to flinch once again.
"I'll take it into consideration.
"
The Captain sighed heavily and shook his head gently. "I'll see you later, young sprite." When the captain was out of sight and ear shot, Iswe finally allowed herself to sniffle, tears brimming her eyes, but never would they fall.
The door opened and Dyllin stepped out in clean clothes--a pair of brown riding trousers and a white, loosely-fitting cotton shirt, and a pair of knee-high boots. He paused and looked at Iswe, frowning at the fact that she was still there, after having been there the night before. "Oh, come now.." he whispered, closing his bedroom door again. He rubbed her back, then looked down at her a little. "Why are you still here, Iswe? I told you, we're fine... Eighteen years later and you still feel the need to gaurd our door?"
"If you recall... I did swear on my life that I would protect you." Just days after everything had settled down, Iswe had taken Dyllin and Samiya aside in private and sworn her protection over them. "You may not be in danger at the moment but one can never be too sure. Especially with this party about to happen." She feared one day they wouldn't give her a choice and just kick her out of the castle, the kingdom even. But since it has yet to happen, she was safe for now. "Do I disturb you, your highness?" Her voice was soft as she spoke, almost timid, but not quite her old self.
"W-well, no... but we worry about you, Iswe. I remember the oath you took, of course I do. All three of you took it." Dyllin frowned gently, with sincere concern. "But that doesn't mean you need to stay at our door night and day. Don't sacrifice your help or comfort for a danger that won't come. At least not today. Please... go eat something... take a rest. You won't do any good protecting us if you're too exhausted to even stand." he said with a warm smile, giving her shoulder a squeeze. "Besides... I need to go find my son."
Iswe sighed heavily and gave her head a slight nod. "Yes sir..." Taking a few steps away, she frowned and turned back. "I believe he was in the royal tomb, your highness. Sein was just down there... I sense she was talking to him." With that being said she gave a bow and retreated to her room. There was a tray of fruit on the table waiting when she got there. Picking up a vine of red grapes she began munching on them. Sighing heavily she removed her clothing and entered the bathroom with her grapes. Starting the water she climbed in, pouring a bit of bubble bath. Relaxing into the water she closed her eyes as she popped a few grapes into her mouth. Chewing on them a face appeared in her mind. A beautiful elven face. Ihara would be here today. She couldn't remember the last time shed seen him. Well of course she could! Looking down at her hand she frowned at the ring she still wore. Only her sisters understood her deep feelings for the elven king. Most everyone else didnt even know she still had it. Finishing her bath she moved to her closet wearing a robe. She needed to find something...girly to wear. It was times like these she wished her sisters were here.
There was a soft knock on the door then in her main bedroom. The door creaked open, and Idre poked her head in. She'd run into Dyllin in the hallway a few minutes ago, and he had told her about sending Iswe back to her room. She moved into the bedroom, looked around, then heard the shifting of water in the bathroom. She knocked on the bathroom door then. "Iswe?" she called sweetly, listening through the wood of the door.
Iswe looked over her shoulder with a smile and the door flung open due to the steam that rested on it. "Hello, Idre." Looking back into her fairly large closet she sighed heavily. "I was kindly advised to leave my post by the king. I figured I had better listen for once." Running a hand through her long wet hair, she sighed heavily. Closing her eyes she absorbed the water from her hair, leaving it dry and curly. "Im trying to find something to wear but I've worn my slacks for so long that... well... I dont really know where to begin." Leaning against the door frame to the walk in closet she frowned, just staring at the many different outfits.
Idre gave her a sweet, calm smile, her hands folded lightly in front of herself. "You want to look nice for Ihara." she said. It was obvious. She moved into the room and to Iswe's side, putting a soft, silken hand on her shoulder. "Let me help you. You've never been good at dressing like a lady." she laughed lightly. She moved into the closet and looked over the many fine dresses inside, then smiled when she spotted the perfect one. It was blue, and it was form-fitting until it got to the drop waist, where it fanned out in a beautiful ballroom skirt. It would sit off of Iswe's shoulders, and support her bust perfectly. "This one." she said, taking it down and holding it up. "Blue has always been your color."
Iswe rolled her eyes and smiled softly. "Oh I wonder why." Giggling softly she shook her head before taking the dress. "I dont necessarily want to look good for Ihara... but I dont want to look terrible either." Turning away she slipped easily into the dress, pulling it up and tossing her towel aside. "Zip me up?" She asked softly, pulling her blue hair over her shoulders so that they were out of the way. "Should I do any make-up?" She doubted she even had any make-up in the room but she was sure they could find some.
Idre moved to zip her up carefully, and smiled at her. "Yes! Oh, some blush on your cheeks and some blue on your eyes to make them pop!" she squeaked excitedly, bouncing a little. "You'll look magnificent! And I'll put your hair up so prettily!" She grabbed Iswe's hand, pulling her out of the bathroom and into the bedroom, sitting her down in front of the vanity mirror. "Ihara won't be able to take his eyes off of you!"
"Unless he's come with a date..." Iswe stared at her hands that now rested in her lap. That was her biggest fear, that he had moved on a found someone, when she hadn't. Hadn't really lived a day to please herself and give her the chance to move on. Clearing her throat, Iswe shook her head gently. "Just... don't put it all up..." She'd give her sister pretty much free rein over her appearance as long as she didn't end up looking like a poodle.
Idre paused, noting Iswe's quiet and somewhat saddened demeanor, and she gave her a sympathetic, encouraging smile. She put her hands on Iswe's shoulders and gave her a little shake, trying to get her to smile. "He won't have a date. The trees have spoken to me, Iswe... Through their roots, I hear tales... Ihara is not married... and he has no date." She winked at her and smiled warmly. "Don't lose hope." She then began to toy with Iswe's hair, pulling it up in different ways to see how it would best look before she actually did anything with it.
Iswe gave a small smile and glanced up at her sister through long eyelashes. "If you say so." Giggling softly she closed her eyes and relaxed. "You, Sein, and I should all go to the spa. It may get me out of my funk to be pampered." Sighing softly, she opened her eyes once again to peer at Idre in the mirror. "I hear the rumors you know, everyone think's I'm going crazy. They think that the battle was too much for me and I've never gotten over it." Clenching her hands into tight fists she struggled to find that calm she had moments before. "I just can't bare to see anyone else I care about hurt. That isn't crazy... it's what drives me."
"And no one can sympathize with that more than me and Sein, sister, you know that. What makes it crazy is that you're insisting on protecting the ones you love when nothing dangerous is happening. You freaked out because Aarin fell off a step stool when he was five." Idre teased, poking Iswe lightly in the side. "There's a time and place for everything, Iswe, and standing guard outside Dyllin and Samiya's door when they're sleeping isn't really the time or place." She smiled softly though, and finally decided on a hairdo for her sister. She pulled back a couple of thin strands from just above her ears, braiding them both, and bringing them to meet at the back of her head, then connected them by braiding them together and tying it off at the bottom. She made sure some tendrils framed Iswe's face, then she got started on her makeup. "Gosh, you're going to look so pretty!" she peeped. She hoped that with Ihara here, she would be too distracted to continue acting as head guard for the family.
Iswe nodded her head as her sister played. "Oh boy... I haven't meant for it to come to this... I guess I got stuck in the past." Shaking her head gently she rubbed her eyes in frustration. "But what if I leave them and something happens while I'm away? I could never forgive myself..." Biting her bottom lip she breathed deeply. She knew she needed to be more open minded and try to listen and do what they suggested. "I'll...I'll try."
"That's all we can ask for, sister." Idre smiled shyly and then swatted her hands away lightly. "Stop rubbing your face now, I'm gonna finish your makeup! Hold still. Ihara will be here any minute, you have to look perfect." she said with an excited smile. She put a lovely matching shade of blue on Iswe's eyes, lined with grey liner, and some sparkles, along with some pinky blush on her cheeks, and a little gloss on her lips. She added some glitter to Iswe's cleavage, then sat back proudly. "There! You look magnificent!" she squeaked excitedly.
There was a soft whistling that floated on the breeze from the back of the royal family's tomb. It echoed off over the hill from the beautiful semetary that Dyllin had built after the castle was finished being reconstructed. It was lined with a high, beautifully painted white, wrought-iron fence, and the graves were all evenly spaced and decorated with bouquets of flowers. It was a memorial space for anyone who had died during and after Reise's attack on the kingdom. The biggest structure was the royal family tomb. So far, the only casket in there was Xander's, carved from white marble, and beautifully sealed. Sitting atop it was a blonde-haired boy with soft blue eyes, and between his thumbs was a blade of grass. When he blew, it whistled softly, and carried over the air like a feather.
After the second whistle, there came a responding howl, and the boy gave a quirk of a smile, lowering the grass from his lips and looking down at his lap. "So you found me."
"Half of the time, this is where you are. There's no finding to be done." Eon stepped into the tomb slowly from outside, in his human form, wearing a loose set of pants and a shirt that had been messily thrown on. He was barefooted. It was easier that way for when he changed. He gave Aarin a small frown and stepped further into the marble-columned house, and looked at the tomb beneath the young boy. "Why you spend so much time in this dismal place, I'll never understand. I know people like to pay their respects to the dead, but when you start spending the night here... It's a little creepy."
Aarin gave a soft chuckle and shrugged, moving to stand off of the tomb lazily. He was also barefooted, but it was because he liked the feel of wet grass and cold stone beneath his feet. He looked at Eon and ran a hand through his blonde hair, tilting his head. "C'mon, mutt, you're not gonna take me back, are you?"
"You know your parents will want to have breakfast with you. It's not healthy to be so elusive of them. They're your parents."
"I know that, and I'm not being elusive. I just... find peace here."
"Why?"
Aarin pouted at Eon and gave a stubborn shrug. "I don't know." he sighed, running his fingertips over the lid of his grandfather's box. "I just... I do. All the stress from my tutoring, and all the pressure of my dad's shadow... It's all gone when I come here." He gave a smile as his fingers touched the golden plaque that read "King Xander. Beloved King, Father, and Husband." He sighed again, then looked back up at Eon. "Let me guess... The fire sprite is with you?"
"You bet she is." Sein replied as she stepped into the tomb, her eyes fixed on Aarin as she folded her arms sternly across her chest. "Why aren't you up in the castle? There is a great many important things happening at the minute and you should be up there performing your princely duties, not hiding away. Guests are arriving today from all over the kingdoms for the celebration of the upcoming arrival of your sister and you are in no way dressed to greet them." She scolded before sighing and uncrossing her arms as she moved to him and placed a hand lightly on his shoulder. "It'll be fun and you never know..there might be a princess or two arriving as well." She said with a smile and a raised eyebrow.
Aarin frowned up at Sein's words, feeling the weight of her hand on his shoulder and he sighed, brushing it off and moving around her, stepping out of the tomb. They would never understand. He moved outside, Eon close behind him after giving Sein a small smile and a shrug. "I don't need an escort. I can get there myself." Aarin snapped over his shoulder, moving with quick steps through the grass and away from the graveyard.
Eon watched him go with a sort of worried glower, then looked at Sein with a sad sigh. "I worry about him sometimes..." he whispered honestly once he knew the boy was out of earshot. He then gave a soft chuckle at Sein and moved to hold her hand. "That comment about princesses was clever, but... I think princesses might be the furthest thing from his mind at this point."
Sein nodded in agreement as she gently squeezed Eon's hand in hers. "Sometimes I wonder if it would have been better if he had been betrothed to someone. He's sixteen now and Dyllin was eighteen when he married Samiya." She said then shrugged lightly as she led the way slowly back towards the castle. "Not that it matters I suppose. He's just been so quiet lately and distant..what do you think is the matter?"
"I don't know.... but he's been that way ever since the anniversary of Xander's death..." Eon said, trailing off a little. He knew she would know that also meant the anniversary of the attack on the castle by Reise. It had been 18 long years since that day. But the air felt... different around them. Why now? "I wonder if we shouldn't pay Anaita a visit." he said softly, giving her a small glance.
Eighteen years..has it really been that long? Sein thought as she remembered back to Reise's attack upon the castle and felt like it had only happened yesterday. When Eon mentioned Anaita she smiled and nodded in response. "That sounds like a good idea. She'll most likely still be in her private quarters."
It was amazing, really. After Jollel's funeral, Anaita had inherited her crystal ball and had become rather profficient in magic. If anyone would be able to tell them about what was going on, she would. "Then let's go," Eon nodded, smiling at Sein. He gave her cheek a kiss, then lead her on through the gardens and pathways back towards the castle.
"I hope we're just worrying over nothing." Sein commented quietly as she looped her arm through his as they walked. "Maybe he's just a little overwhelmed with everything that's going on. I mean everyone's so focused on the upcoming arrival of the baby, with the planning of the big shower and all the guests arriving daily, the castle is bedlam." She sighed lightly. "Whatever it is, I hope Anaita can find out." She stepped into the castle and began to lead the way to the previous Queens rooms. She suddenly felt a small wave of sadness wash over her and frowned. She and her sisters had always been in tune with each others strong feelings and right now Iswe's was reaching her. Lately this was the only kind of emotion she could feel from her and it made her worry. "Remind me when King Ihara arrives to beat him until he comes to his senses." She growled lightly before stopping outside Anaita's room and knocking the door lightly.
Eon stayed silent. He watched the door, hoping that Anaita was inside, and when the door finally opened, he still didn't relax. "Highness..." he greeted with a bow of his head.
"Stop it. You know I'm not queen anymore. Stop calling me by that title." Anaita said with a gentle smile. She looked at them both, then moved aside to let them in. "I was waiting for you both today." she chuckled. "It seems that with my sister's crystal ball, I've also acquired her knack for foresight." She moved into the room herself and towards the table where the ball was sitting.
Sein quickly followed her into the room, pulling Eon with her as she did. "I hope we are finding you well this morning." She spoke politely as she seated herself opposite Anaita. "We were hoping we could get your help with something. Eon and I are both a little worried about the young prince. Hes been very quiet and reserved lately and has taken it upon himself to spend most of his time in the library or down in the late King Xanders tomb.."
Anaita leaned forward in her seat, hands in her lap as Eon joined Sein's side opposite her, and she listened seriously. She frowned and nodded. "Yes, I've worried about this also... He's been this way since the anniversary of Xander's death." she whispered, her voice growing a little tight at his name. She cleared it with a gentle cough, then sat up straighter and put her hands on the crystal ball. With a swirl of magic within it, it showed an image of Aarin wherever he was now, which was in his room, dressing in some clean clothes with some actual shoes. "He's a special boy. He's very smart, and curious about the world. But I think what he may be feeling now are residual memories of the attack. Even though he wasn't alive--or even conceived--at the time, he may be in tune with the memories contained in the castle walls. Either that, or someone is feeding them to him."
Eon's expression grew somewhat fearful. "Who would be feeding him these memories and emotions?" He feared the worst.
Anaita held up her hand. "Eon, I know what you're thinking. But Reise is locked away in pure crystal, and he will not escape. The axe was buried on the other side of the planet, so it cannot be Scabbar either." She watched Eon shudder at that name. "Sorry," she whispered meekly. "But neither of them will be any threat, I assure you." She sighed and looked back at Aarin's image. "No... I think that perhaps he's acquiring these feelings himself. He's so intuitive." she whispered, stroking the smooth glass of the crystal ball.
Sein listened quietly as Eon and Anaita spoke then nodded in understanding once they had grown silent. "Maybe he has been gifted from your bloodline." She said, looking at Anaita. "Is that possible?" She asked curiously. She could be perfectly happy if this were the reason for Aarin's strange behaviour. At least whatever was happening would be good.
Anaita looked at Sein and gave a small shrug. "Honestly, that is a possibility. It's possible that my gypsy bloodline skipped a generation and is in Aarin. That would be... wonderful, really. But there's no way to know for sure yet." She waved her hand over the ball and Aarin's image vanished, being replaced by the image of an elven carriage drawing up to the main gates of the castle. "Ah! It seems Ihara has arrived." she smiled widely.
"Well, then we should go greet him!" Eon nodded, standing up. He and Ihara had become rather close friends ever since the day they battled Scabbar together. He felt like a dog excited by the return of his master. If he was in his wolf form, his tail would be wagging a mile a minute. "Thank you, Anaita, for your insight." he smiled and bowed again, making her laugh. He then looked at Sein, grabbing her hand. "Let's go!"
Sein rolled her eyes but couldn't help but smile. "You're like a child." She said to Eon before looking at Anaita. "Thank you for all your help. It eases my heart to know that it cannot be anything dark disturbing young Aarin." She smiled again then stood still gripping Eon's hand. "Alright..lead the way. I'm sure he's just as excited about seeing you as you are about him."
The elvish carriage slowly rolled up into the courtyard of the castle then stopped just short of the steps. One of the tall and proud looking elves climbed from their horse and moved to open the carriage door, bowing his head respectfully as he did. Ihara stepped from the carriage smiling brightly up at the castle. It felt good to be back. "I'm sorry there is no one to greet you your highness.." One of the Layfette guards spoke as he hurried over to the elvish king. "We were not expecting you until later." Ihara waved his hand and his smile widened. "Do not worry..I wanted to get here as soon as I could so I urged my horsemen to go as fast as they could manage." He said as the other elves began hurrying around behind him trying to gather his things to take into the castle.
"IHARA!" Eon's voice suddenly bellowed from inside. He released Sein's hand and transformed into his wolf-dog form, his clothes dropping to the floor in a heap as he ran to Ihara and tackled him to the ground, licking at his face happily, his tail wagging behind him. He was so thrilled to have his friend back.
There was a laugh from behind them then, and Dyllin smiled broadly at the sight. "I'll never get tired of that." he chuckled. He did the same thing every year at the annual Meeting of the Kingdoms. Aarin was beside Dyllin, watching the commotion with calculating eyes. "You're just in time for breakfast, Ihara!" he called, making Eon finally back off of him, still wagging his tail.
Ihara let out a loud laugh as he was tackled to the ground by the large wolf-dog, a reaction that was not shared by his fellow elves. Even though they had witnessed the same greeting between their king and Eon for many years they still did not feel it was a respectful way to treat royalty. But as they stood frowning lightly at the dog, Ihara was continuing to laugh as Eon finally backed off and allowed him to stand up. "Okay thats enough.." He chuckled as he patted and scratched the dogs back and neck. "I'm supposed to be a king remember." He looked up at the sound of Dyllins voice and he quickly strode forward as his fellow elves got back to work unloading the large trunk that contained all the gifts followed by the one that held all of Ihara's belongings. "Its good to see you!" He said with a happy grin when he stood in front of Dyllin and Aarin. "And you as well young prince. Everytime I see you, you seemed to have grown even taller. Are you sure he's not part elf?" He asked Dyllin jokingly before patting him on the shoulder. "Now you said something about breakfast?" He chuckled then glanced towards Sein who was standing back, her arms folded firmly across her chest and his smile faltered slightly. "Uh..shall we then?" He motioned towards the castle after taking a small breath and returning his gaze to Dyllin.
Dyllin chuckled and nodded, patting Ihara firmly on the back. Aarin stayed silent, following his father and his friend back through the halls to the main dining room where he sat in his usual seat, his eyes on the table. Dyllin ruffled Aarin's blonde hair affectionately before taking his seat, sighing as he relaxed back into it. Eon pulled Sein into the room a few moments later, once again in his human form and dressed in his clothes. He sat in a chair close to Ihara and smiled at him happily, holding Sein's hand in his lap. "So how was your trip?" Dyllin asked Ihara conversationally as plates started to be served. He didn't touch his food though. He wouldn't until Samiya came down, the way he always did.
Once Idre was done, Iswe thanked her softly and smiled. "You should go get ready. I think I'll go down and grab a bite to eat." Standing, she kissed her sister's forehead and smiled. "Thank you." Hugging her gently before leaving the room. Making her way downstairs, she noticed a large group standing at the entrance, along with her sister. "Sein--" About to ask what was going on she noticed the carriage and then the handsome elf standing in front of everyone. Coming to a halt on the last stair she frowned deeply. She wasnt ready for this. She thought she'd had more time to prepare herself to see him. But now that she saw him she was frozen in place, either by his beauty or from the pain of seeing him.
Ihara had followed after Dyllin and Aarin as they moved towards the dining hall. "I think I may have overdone it with the gifts for the baby." He chuckled then lightly patted Aarins shoulder. "I brought some things for you as well." He said kindly then turned and moved to his chair and sat down, chuckling at Eon's eagerness. "It was long and uneventful.." He replied as his eyes travelled slowly towards the staircase at the sound of approaching footsteps expecting to see Samiya. At the sight of Iswe he quickly stood up respectfully, causing his chair to tumble backwards and hit the ground with a thud. Sein raised an eyebrow then nudged Eon with her elbow, motioning with a small nod to both her sister and the elf and how they were acting.
"My my..things are certainly quiet down here." Samiya said as she descended the stairs slowly behind Iswe, dressed in a beautiful loose red gown. She paused beside the sprite, a hand placed almost protectively over her bump as she cast her eyes over the group, taking in the fallen chair and the look of surprise on both Iswe and Iharas face. She smiled lightly then looked at Iswe. "Would you help me to my chair?"
Dyllin looked up and was also struck silent at Iswe's rather surprising beauty. He looked at Ihara when the chair tumbled, and he gave a small cough. "Here, love, I'll help you." he said, standing up and moving to her on the stairs quickly. He looped his elbow with hers and led her down the stairs carefully, his hand under her belly supportively as he did. "I think Ihara should help Iswe to her seat." he whispered to her a little conspiratorially.
Samiya smiled and nodded. "Ihara could you please show Iswe to her seat, Sein and Eon could you make some room for Iswe." She asked politely as she moved to her seat with the help of Dyllin. She paused behind Aarin and leaned down and kissed the top of his head affectionately. "Good morning my little prince." She said to him then carried on to her chair which she eased herself into as Sein grabbed Eon's hand and urged him to move to allow Iswe and Ihara to sit together.
Ihara gulped then nodded in understanding to Samiya as a maid hurried over and righted his chair. He stepped slowly away from the table and over to Iswe, smiling awkwardly at her. He bowed to her then held his arm out for her to take. "Good morning Iswe..I hope this day finds you well." He said softly unsure what to say to her in his nervous state.
Iswe flushed a deep shade of red as she took Ihara's arm. She nodded her head gently. "Better than usual. I got kicked off of my post this morning" Turning her eyes to Dyllin she smiled fondly at him as Ihara led her to her chair. "Although I needed the break, I will admit that." Glancing at Ihara through her lashes her voice softened. "I hope you had a good trip."
"It was long but it was nice to have a little peace. We have been having a lot of trouble with wolves and other creatures from the cursed wood trying to invade Cuole. I have been spending the last month or so hunting and heightening our defences." Ihara replied as he led the way to the table then politely pulled her chair out for her before slidding into his own. He glanced round the table and was embarrassed to see most of the eyes on him and Iswe. "So..have you been keeping well?" He asked softly before raising his goblet of water and taking a small sip, his posture far straighter and proper than it had been before she got there. Samiya listened to them and smiled softly. "Shall we eat?" She asked in the hopes of distracting the others and turning the attention from the elf and the sprite.
Iswe ducked her head down at Ihara's question, not sure how to answer. Looking up at Sein she pleaded with her eyes but then shook her head knowing she couldnt really avoid it. "Uh... not really. I've kind of recruited myself as protector over the royal family. Even though I think I'm being fired... Apparently I've taken it too far..." clearing her throat she began nibbling at her food. "How about you?"
"I'm sorry to hear that but I'm sure Dyllin and samiya haven't fired you. There has to have been some kind of misunderstanding." Ihara replied and couldn't help but smile lightly at her. still the same little flustered sprite she's always been. he thought for a moment about how to answer her question. "Well..my royal duties keep me fairly busy. I don't really get to do the things I used to love. I miss that." He said causing Sein to groan at their awkward conversation.
"Yes." Dyllin chuckled softly, holding Samiya's hand on the tabletop and moving to start eating his breakfast. He glanced at Aarin, who was prodding at his food with his fork and only taking small modest bites at a time, but otherwise seemed distracted. Dyllin frowned a little and looked at Samiya, giving a small nod at Aarin, and sighing softly. "Something is bothering him." he whispered under his hand to Samiya.
Samiya frowned lightly as she listened to Dyllin and watched Aarin push his breakfast around his plate. "Darling..is everything alright?" She asked her son softly. "You seem troubled.." she added. "You know you can speak with us. We have dealt with our fair few problems in the past so might be able to help.."
Aarin looked up at his parents from his plate, his blue eyes almost scrutinizing them, then he shook his head. "No. Nothing's wrong." he said softly. He finished off his glass of water and stood up from the table, looking around at everyone before muttering, "S'cuse me." He turned and headed away from the dining hall, his head and eyes down.
"He's almost as bad at lying as you are." Samiya said softly as she watched Aarin leave before turning to look at Dyllin. "Should we go after him?" She asked her voice full of concern as she dropped her fork onto her plate. "I'm worried about him. He looks so sad." She pushed her chair back suddenly and slowly got to her feet. "I'm going after him. You stay here with the guests. Make sure they continue talking.." she motioned to iswe and Ihara before following after Aarin.
"Oh no... its not a misunderstanding. I went kind of crazy over protecting them. I havent slept, I rarely leave them." Sighing heavily she shook her head and frowned. "Im sorry to hear that. You should take some time for yourself." Fidgeting uncomfortably she sighed softly and shook her head. Why is this so awkward?
"How I would love to take some time but there is no one to stand in my place like I was there to stand in for my father." Ihara shrugged lightly then glanced towards her. His eyes fell on her hand and the finger she still wore his ring on and his eyes widened in shock. "You're still wearing it.." he whispered then smiled softly at her. "I'm glad." He watched her for a moment longer then returned his attention to his breakfast as Sein gave Iswe a positive thumbs up.
Iswe looked down at her hand and blushed deeply. She'd forgotten to take his ring off. "Oh gods..." But he was glad. 18 years and he was glad she still wore his ring. Biting down on her bottom lip nervously she peeked up at him through her eyelashes. She was overwhelmed by all the emotions running through her. Getting to her feet she sighed heavily. "Please excuse me..." Hurrying from the room she went out a near by door to the gardens and inhaled deeply.
Ihara stared after her a little shocked by her sudden movements then looked back down at his plate frowning heavily. Finally he stood up. "If you'll please excuse me..I suddenly feel rather tired from my journey." He said quietly then took off in the opposite direction from iswe into the castle itself and headed towards the room that was always prepared for his visits.
Sein sighed then looked at Eon. "You handle him, I'll go to her." She said then stood up and after a quick bow to Dyllin hurried out into the gardens after Iswe. "Whats wrong?" She asked when she stepped up beside her.
"I panicked... so many emotions all at once. I was nervous to be around him and then happy we were talking and then shocked that he was glad I still wear his ring. I just panicked, its that simple." Sighing, Iswe shook her head. "I need to go apologize." Giving Sein a hug she took a deep breath. "Wish me luck." Kissing her sisters cheek she hurried into the castle in search of Ihara then realized he probably went to his room. Making her way there she knocked softly when she came to the familiar door.
Eon nodded at Sein and blew her a kiss before bowing to Dyllin as well, leaving him alone at the table now and moving after Ihara into the halls towards his room. "Hey.... What happened back there?" he asked, tilting his head at Ihara as he walked beside him.
"I don't know.." Ihara replied sadly. "I thought we were starting to relax and get along..I saw that she was still wearing my ring and i told her I was glad and she got up and ran out." He sighed as he opened the door to his room and stepped inside. "Maybe I am wrong..maybe she feels no interest towards me or maybe she has just gotten tired of waiting." He moved to the window and looked outside. "The elf elders won't stop asking why in nearly eighteen years of ruling I have not yet chosen a wife..maybe it is time I gave up and picked one of the elf maidens they deem acceptable." He said though did not look at all excited about that idea. At the sound of someone knocking the door he looked up. "Come in." He called figuring it a maid with towels or other things for his room.
Iswe cracked the door slightly, enough so that he could see it was her. As she peered inside she remembered the few times she had been in there, speaking with Ihara, getting to know each other. Noticing Eon was with him she blushed. "Im sorry, I thought you were alone. I'll come back some other time." Clearing her throat uncomfortably she moved to leave.
"N-no! No! I was just leaving!" Eon called quickly, then gave Ihara a small smile over his shoulder and mouthed the words, "Just be honest". He gave him an encouraging wink, then moved to the door, opening it and yanking Iswe inside, then stepping back out into the hall and shutting the door behind himself.
Iswe goes flying into the room, bumping into the table and falling backwards onto her butt, knocking the contents off of the table. "Those two are so right for each other." Sighing she shook her head, kneeling on the floor she began picking up a few books. "I'm sorry... uh... about the mess." She had always been pretty clumsy.
Ihara quickly hurried over to Iswe when she stumbled and knelt down next to her. "Are you alright?" He asked in a concerned tone as he grabbed her hand before she could pick up more books. He suddenly realised what he had done and quickly released her hand, his cheeks reddening with embarrassment. "Sorry.." He said before sighing and picking up a book. "What are we doing Iswe?" He asked sadly.
"I'm alright. I never did get past the clumsy phase." When Ihara picked up her hand she blushed deeply, inhaling sharply. Taking a deep breath she took a moment to get her bearings. "I came to apologize. I didn't mean to run out like that. I can't seem to remember that you're a king and I can't just do that... though I did it to Dyllin as well." Shaking her head she waved her hand to clear her mind. "But thats beside the point. I panicked... I will admit that. I wasn't prepared at all for the emotions I'm feeling. You wouldn't really understand since you haven't been here, but I haven't felt Anything in years. I had a hard time dealing with it... obviously." Sighing heavily she stared down at her hands that had picked up a book without her noticing. "I'm sorry..."
"Please stop saying sorry. It should be me that is sorry. I didn't mean to cause you so much panic and distress." Ihara replied before getting to his feet and pulling her carefully to hers. "Do you wish you had never met me?" He asked slowly, nervous of what her answer may be.
Iswe stared into Ihara's eyes, floored by his question. Furrowing her eyebrows in thought for a moment she shrugged her shoulders. "In the beginning, after you'd left, I think I had, wished that. But now... seeing you again." Iswe swallowed passed the lump in her throat and shook her head gently. "No I don't wish that." Sighing heavily, she looked relieved for having gotten that off of her chest.
Ihara smiled. "I'm glad." He said then looked up as another knock came to the door. A maid stepped in with a large tray of food balanced in her arms. "Sorry to intrude but Miss Sein told me I should bring you something to eat because you missed breakfast." Ihara glanced at Iswe and couldn't help but smile at Seins obvious attempt to keep them together. The maid quickly placed the tray on the table then quickly left the room. "Are you hungry?" Ihara asked.
Iswe smiled softly and shook her head at her sister. "Yes actually. Im not sure what happened but I never did get to finish my breakfast." Blushing softly she shook her head as a soft giggle escaped her lips. Moving over to the food she began to plate their food, each of them the same thing. Thinking to herself for a momemt she peeked up at him through her eyelashes. "Do you eat meat?"
Ihara shook his head lightly as he carefully poured out two teacups of tea. "No..I only eat things like fruit, vegetables, breads and cheeses. No elf eats meat." He told her with a smile as he paused in what he was doing before finishing up and carrying the two cups to their seats and set them on the small table in between before unclasping his cloak and draping it carefully over the back of his chair.
Iswe smiled softly and nodded her head gently. "That's what I thought, just wanted to double check." Picking up their plates, she brought them over to the table and smiled gently. The only difference between their plates is that she had eggs, he on the other hand, did not. Taking her seat she looked up at him. "This is... different."
"But nice..better than before when all eyes were on us." Ihara replied after thanking her for the food. He took a small bite of his food then looked at Iswe, a nervous expression on his face. "I wanted to ask you something..i've been thinking about it the whole way here. The party Dyllin and Samiya are throwing..would you like to go with me?"
"I'll say... It was like we were the most interesting thing...going on..." Sighing slightly, Iswe shook her head and giggled. "Well maybe we were but thats beside the point." Shrugging her shoulders she paused and listened to Ihara. Blushing deeply she cleared her throat before nodding her head. "I'd like that..."
"Really?" Ihara replied then couldn't help but smile. "Thank you. I thought it would be a perfect opportunity for us to get to know each other and let you see how foolish I look when I dance." He chuckled before lifting his teacup and taking a small sip. "It'll be such a wonderful event."
Iswe nodded her head gently. "Don't thank me... It'll be a pleasure." Iswe's heartbeat kicked up a notch as she reached over and slid her hand into his. "I missed you... probably more than I should." Clearing her throat she grew nervous and retracted her hand from his.
Before she could fully pull away Ihara quickly moved and took a hold of her hand in his, giving it a gentle squeeze as he did. "I have missed you also. You have no idea how much I have wanted to come see you but if there is one thing that has ever brought such fear into my heart it was the thought that you would not want to see me." He said truthfully to her.
Iswe blushed deeply and looked down at their joined hands. "I thought the same thing. Thats why whenever you came to visit I was always off duty." Sighing she shook her head. "We've both gone about this entirely the wrong way. How could we not see it?"
Ihara shrugged lightly with a soft smile. "I guess we were both just so worried about upsetting the other that we didn't feel it was ever the right time. We let fear rule us but we've finally overcame it..it only took eighteen years." He chuckled lightly then relaxed back into his chair still gripping Iswes hand. "So tell me something about you I don't know.." he asked deciding to try and get to know her better.
Iswe stared at the table for a moment and then frowned. "Did you ever wonder why my sister's knew each other but I came along later on? I was given to a family up in the mountains who sheltered me. One day I had decided to go out on my own and was kidnapped by a band of thieves. I was with the thieves for a little over a month before I was found. After that my "parents" never really left me out of their sight." Blushing slightly she looked up at Ihara.
"You were kidnapped? How awful.." Ihara said softly as he frowned lightly. "Thank goodness you were found. So when did you come to Layfette? And did you know you had Sein and Idre as sisters?" He questioned further as he watched her.
"I've never told anyone that, of course I'm sure Jollel knew, as smart as she was." Smiling softly, Iswe shrugged her shoulders. "Not very long before I met you actually. I had only been here a few months, we just settling in." Taking a sip from her drink she met Ihara's eyes over the rim of her glass and shook her head before setting the glass aside. "No, actually, I had no idea they even existed. But now that I do, I wouldn't trade them for the world."
"I bet its nice having two sisters to look out for you as much as Idre and Sein do. I don't have any brothers or sisters but there were a lot of other elf children when I was younger if I wished to play..though my father often disapproved of my playful behaviour, feeling it not appropriate for a future King." Ihara replied with a shrug before smiling. "But mother was a softer soul and often encouraged me to go play." He chuckled then gave Iswe's hand a gentle squeeze. "I would hope you could meet my mother and father one day.."
"Most of the time... at least when they don't interfere." Smiling softly, Iswe shook her head and listened to him speak. "You were a child, children are supposed to have fun. I'm glad your mother encourage you." Blushing softly she looked down at their hands and smiled. "I would like that."
"Well..would you like to return with me to Cuole once the baby shower is done and all other matters are taken care of? It could be the holiday everyone has been telling you to take." Ihara replied as he watched her closely before looking up as a soft knock came at the door. After a moment it slowly opened and one of the elves that had accompanied peered inside. "Sorry to disturb you but it was really about time we went over your schedule and things that need to be done on this visit." Ihara sighed and then gave a small nod before looking back at Iswe. "I'm sorry but i'm really going to have to deal with this. You can think on what I asked you and give me your answer later." He smiled at her then slowly raised her hand and kissed the back of it gently before finally releasing it. "Now go, i'm sure your sisters can't wait to hear what happened." He said jokingly before standing and watching as all his elf companions filed into the room.
Iswe blushed deeply and nodded her head gently before she rose and quickly left the room. Once out of his room and a little ways down the hallway she paused, leaning against the wall, taking deep breaths. That was a big question... Sighing gently she glanced around the hallway, wondering where her sister's were. Sein, Idre?
Aarin sighed as he walked away from the dining hall, lifting his head only after he had turned a corner and knew they couldn't see him. He sighed and tucked his hands into his pockets, walking through the hall towards the library. He just wanted to be somewhere with some peace and quiet. He didn't want to be surrounded by all that awkwardness.
"Are you going to make me chase you." Samiya called to Aarin from the bottom of the hallway. "That would probably be a race you'd win." She chuckled lightly as she moved after him, her hands cradled beneath her bump. "So where are we going on this lovely mother son stroll?" She asked not wanting to jump straight into questioning about what was the matter.
Aarin paused and looked back at his mother, seeming a little surprised that she had followed him, but he tried to give her the briefest of smiles. "I don't know. I was just... walking." he lied, shrugging. He assumed she would be able to tell that he had meant walking to the library. He moved to her side and helped her up the last few steps, then walked more slowly with her, his elbow looped with hers. "Wherever you want, mom, this is your castle."
"And it will one day be yours so you may choose our destination. That means if you wish to go to the library then that is where we shall go." Samiya replied as she patted his hand gently. "Are you looking forward to the party that we have planned? Its going to be a wonderful evening. Your grandfather is going to travel all the way here to celebrate with us." She said speaking of her own father.
Aarin's smile quickly fell when she mentioned that the castle would one day be his. He gulped and stifled his sigh, then shook his head. "No. I think perhaps I've spent enough time in the library today." In fact, little to her knowledge, he'd been awake since before the sun had come up, just sitting in the library and looking around at all the books on the shelves. He did this quite often. "I guess I'm excited. I'm excited for you and father." he nodded softly, his eyes elsewhere. He was, however, rather excited to see Auguste. He rather liked his grandfather.
"You guess you're excited?" Samiya repeated with a raised eyebrow. "Are you not looking forward to the arrival of your sister? Its alright to feel a little jealousy.." she continued and had to bite her tongue and stop herself mentioning the fierce jealousy Reise had felt towards Dyllin. not a good example. she thought. "You have nothing to worry about. Now is that what's bothering you or is there something else?"
Aarin frowned and looked at his mother quizzically. "I'm not jealous of my sister." he said stubbornly, then huffed a sigh, looking at the ground again and shrugging. "I just... I feel like there has to be more to life than just this, mom. Living in a castle... being pampered and catered to, and following the guidelines set to me by centuries of bloodlines. I'm forced to take lessons, and act proper, and be babysat." He spat the last word a little angrily, then calmed himself with a breath. "I just... wonder if I shouldn't try to be... more."
Samiya smiled then suddenly turned and hugged Aarin tightly before letting go of him and smiling at him. "That all sounds very familiar. When I was your age I was exactly the same. I refused to accept that I had to become this woman everyone wanted me to be. I didn't want to be queen and I definitely didn't want to marry your father." She told him with a chuckle. "I planned to run away before my eighteenth birthday which was when we were set to marry, intent on having all these grand adventures and be a free woman but as I'm sure you're aware things turned out a little differently and I got an adventure I wasn't expecting."
Aarin was taken a little aback by the embrace, blinking down at his mom a little confusingly. He listened to her, then blushed slightly and shook his head. "That's another thing, why are you all so intent on me having a girlfriend?" he pressed, his brows knitted. "Everyone always asks me when I'm going to find a nice girl to bring home, or rag on the fact that I spend so much time alone instead of with boys my own age trying to impress the girls in town." he scoffed, pulling away from her a little.
"I'm sorry love..its just proper protocol that future kings have a wife picked out by their eighteenth birthday and people are just worrying that time is running out for you. Your father and I have already received much criticism for not betrothing you to a princess when you were a baby." Samiya replied sadly. "But I won't have that life for you. Its like a chain holding you down. I was just lucky that your father and I actually found love. But I want you to find your future wife by yourself and you will do it in your own time and when you are ready." She smiled at him. "But I do think you need to spend a little more time with the boys your age. Have some fun and make friends."
Aarin frowned at his mother for a moment, blushing, and then nodding. "Thank you... For letting me decide for myself." he mumbled. "But the boys in the village don't like me. They're all fake. They either avoid me because they fear my father, or they try too hard to be my friend BECAUSE of who my father is." he grumbled, running a hand through his blonde hair frustratingly. "I'm perfectly happy keeping to myself, mom. There's no need for you to worry."
"What? The boys don't like you?" Samiya replied looking horrified before frowning in annoyance and looked ready to march straight down into the village. "Wait until I go down there. I'll speak with them, give them a piece of my mind. Your a wonderful boy, they would be lucky to have you as a friend. Who cares if your father is king.."
"They do, apparently." Aarin said with a shrug, frowning at his mom. "It's okay, really... I dont need friends. I have you and dad... And this one." He put his hands on her belly lightly, his eyes sparkling with wonder for a moment. When he pulled his hands away again, the glimmer in his eyes faded and he coughed a little. "That's all I need."
Samiya looked surprised when Aarin touched her belly and couldn't help but sniff lightly as her eyes filled with happy tears. "Thats such a lovely thing to say." She said then laughed when she felt a kick in her stomach. "And she thought so too. I'll always be here for you, you don't need those silly boys." She hugged him again then gently grasped his hand. "Do you want me to leave you alone now? You can tell me if i'm annoying you."
Aarin blushed at his mom, then shook his head. "You could never annoy me, mother." he said sincerely, taking her hand in his and lacing their fingers. He sighed and started to feel more like his old self. "I'm sorry I've been so distant from you and father lately... I think the stress of all my tutorings has gotten to me."
"I remember what it was like. I used to hide when it came time for my lessons. Your grandfather ended up leading me to my lessons himself and locking the door to make sure I couldn't escape. He often forgot I found it very easy to escape from the window." Samiya chuckled as she slowly began walking until they reached a small bench and then sat down still clutching Aarins hand. "I shouldn't tell you that..might give you ideas."
"Nothing I haven't already tried before." Aarin said with a soft snort, sitting beside her. "But there's always Eon or one of the sprites waiting for me outside, and one outside the door..." He frowned and huffed a little, shaking his head. "Must they really insist on following me everywhere? I'm sixteen now, mom don't you think that's too old for babysitters?"
"Yes, I agree, but Aarin they just care about you. They protected us when we were your age and then fought with us when we needed them. They just feel they should do the same with you and probably even more so because they have been with you as you grew up. Do not think badly of them. If you want I can speak with them and ask them to relax a little." Samiya told him then chuckled slightly when she felt a few squirming kicks and punches from her belly. "Your touch seems to have woken her up." She said as she took Aarin's hand and let him feel then movements.
Aarin was a little shocked by her just grabbing his hands and pulling them over to feel the baby moving. He flinched and almost pulled his hands away until he felt a kick against his palm, then he stopped and looked down at her belly. He hadn't felt her belly since she had first gotten pregnant. He had just always thought it was inappropriate. But this was... magical. He blushed and his eyes got that sparkle of wonder back as he watched and felt her belly. "W-wow..." he breathed.
Samiya smiled lovingly at Aarin as she watched him. "I want you to know that when she is born your father and I have made the decision to name you as her guardian. So if anything were to ever happen to us, responsibility of her upbringing and safety would fall to you. I trust that you could do it." She said to him then smiled again. "Of course Eon and the sprites would be very eager to lend a hand." She chuckled then took a hold of his hand and gripped it tightly. "We should return to your father. He's been very worried about you Aarin. Just go and show him you are alright then you can be free to go and spend the day as you want. I'll even tell your tutors you're having a day off."
Aarin gaped at his mother. He would be his sister's guardian? He stuttered, then nodded meekly, blushing and slowly pulling his hands away. He coughed, then stood up. "Okay... Thank you, mom." he gave her a soft smile. He offered her his hand to help her up so they could go back to the dining room together. He was sure she had to be hungry.
Samiya took Aarins hand when he offered it and with a lot of effort pulled herself to her feet. Leading the way back to the dining hall she was relieved to see that the breakfast things had not been cleared away yet. "You should try eating something.." she said to Aarin before releasing his hand and moving back to her seat next to Dyllin. "Hope you didn't miss us to much." She joked as she smiled at him before beginning to shovel food onto her plate.
Aarin hesitated at his seat a moment before sitting down in it lightly, looking at Dyllin, who'd politely waited at the table for everyone as they had disappeared. He chewed happily on his food, glad that Samiya and Aarin had returned. "No, not too much." he said back teasingly as he smiled at Samiya. He let her pile her plate with food, then moved to hold her hand in her lap as she ate. "So, son... How are classes going?"
"Do you really need to ask? The tutors report to you every day." Aarin shrugged, serving himself a fresh plate of food since his first one had been cleared by the maids. He sparsely filled it with a few items, mostly fruit. "But if you're really interested in MY opinion on those classes, I think they're going well. A waste of time, but well."
"Boys..please can we just have a nice friendly breakfast." Samiya commented as she looked at them both seriously before continuing on eating her breakfast. "Anyway Dyllin i've allowed Aarin to have a day off from his studies so that means no discussing them either." She squeezed Dyllins hand lightly before smiling at him. "I told Aarin about us wanting him to be the baby's guardian."
"It's alright, mother. He just doesn't have anything else to talk about with me, so it's all he can think to bring up in conversation." Aarin shrugged and smiled a little bit at his father, before taking a bite of his food to quiet himself.
Dyllin blinked at Samiya, squeezing her hand a little and gulping, glancing at Aarin. "Oh? I thought we were going to do that together?" he asked in a low whisper, frowning at her. But he sighed and smiled, shaking his head. "Nevermind. It doesn't matter. How did he take it?"
"I'm sorry but it just seemed like he needed something to concentrate on to try and lift his mood. I think its safe to say he was a little surprised." Samiya chuckled before looking over at Aarin. "So what will you do with your day now that its completely free?" She asked him curiously.
Dyllin gave Samiya a gentle, understanding smile, and nodded, relaxing back in his chair as he waited for Aarin to answer her. Aarin looked up at his mom and shrugged, swallowing his mouthful of food before answering, "I may go to the village... See if I can't find a new book." They would know that was rather impossible. The royal library had every book ever written and was always the first to get a copy of anything new. But he hoped his parents wouldn't probe past that. "I might even buy a gift for your shower, mom."
"You don't have to do that dear, just knowing you'll be at the shower makes me happy. But..if you really must then i'll not argue with you." Samiya chuckled lightly. "Speaking of the shower we have a few more things we need to sort out and finalize for it, Dyllin. I keep changing my mind on what sort of cake we should have. I can't decide between chocolate or strawberry so we need to talk to the cooks. Then we need to discuss what kind of music we wish the band to play." She said as she began counting the things off on her fingers. "I just hope we have enough time."
Dyllin and Aarin both laughed at Samiya lightly, and then Dyllin nodded, patting her hand. "Yes, and that's all important things that should be decided tonight." he nodded and finished his food. He sipped down the rest of his orange juice and sighed contentedly, his stomach full, and he stood up. "Let's go get to it, then! Aarin can enjoy his day off." he nodded.
"Alright just give me a minute.." Samiya replied then quickly finished off the last of her breakfast and drained her remaining tea before standing. She moved to Aarin and kissed the top of his head. "Now you have fun today but stay out of trouble and if you're heading down into the village you just ignore those other boys." She said in a motherly tone before moving to Dyllin and linking her arm through his. "Lets go to Cook first. All that talk of cake has made me really want some!"
Dyllin laughed and nodded. "And I'm more than sure he'll have some samples for you!" he laughed, pulling her close and ruffling Aarin's hair. "See you later, son. Be good." He kissed his head, then turned and lead Samiya through the main dining hall towards the kitchen doors.
Aarin watched his parents go, then smiled and sighed. He finished his fruit and then stood up, wiping his mouth before heading through the halls. He had to curb the hall where Sein and Eon were just coming out of Anaita's room. He snuck by them, then moved towards the main doors and outside into the open air. Taking a deep breath of it, he started down the hill towards the gates, and then out to the village, taking long strides.
