Lost in the Nothingness

I live in the dark now. Nobody around me. Just pitch black. My parents tried to explain to me, but I wouldn’t listen.
I sat in front of the TV, watching my favorite show of the day. I soon forgot about the TV as I remembered I had a language arts essay for homework.
I forgot the title of the essay as I ran to my room, but suddenly remembered as I looked at my new car.
The subject was based on “What do you appreciate the most?”
The only thing I could think of as I write the essay is “My brand new car.” I think nothing of my family, friends, how lucky I am to have a home, or that I’ve been given life. The new car blinds me of all these.
As I finish the essay, with the last words of, “and nothing else.”
I think to myself, “This is a good essay. The teacher will love it, and all my friends will be jealous or my new car.”
I look at my car, but the TV distracts me from my train of thought.
“A flash flood will be coming our way in approximately 4 minutes and 37 seconds,” the TV weather man announces.
“Just a few minutes,” I think to myself, “just a few minutes to ride in my new car.”
I grab the keys to my car, and run to the kitchen.
“Mom?” I say, grabbing her attention. “I am going for a ride in my new car.”
She says my name. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. There is going to be a flood in a few minutes. You should be appreciative of the shelter you have; a home,” she tries to explain to me, but I didn’t listen.
I grab my jacket from the coat hanger, and open the door.
“I’ll be fine,” I explain to her before I close the door.
I get in the car, and before you know it, I was surrounded by water. I had nowhere to go as the water started making the car drift away, with me in it.
Suddenly, my car hits a pole, and my head plunges forward on the dashboard.
I plunge into a world of darkness. I can’t see or move.
Only then do I realize that I never appreciated the things that were given to me. School, a home, a family, friends, or the new car.
I never appreciated anything I had, until I lost it,” I think to myself. That’s all I can do now.
Always be appreciative of what you have. There is always somebody who doesn’t have as much as you do.
