Molly slid her headphones off and let them hang around her neck just in time to hear Augustine walk up the stairs from around the corner. She hated being the first to apologize and she felt that it was mainly Augustine's fault, but something had to be done. Getting up from the couch, she slowly headed up the stairs, not making eye contact to Lakota or Mercie. Molly was worried that this would just start another argument but...it was worth one last try. Their fighting wasn't good for them or their pack, not to mention the mission that they had to go on. Taking a deep breath, Molly grabbed the door handle and turned it slowly. She opened the door just enough for her to stick her head in first. "Hey..." she said gently.
Augustine turned his head to look at her and took another drag. "You here to bite me again?" he asked.
"Umm...sorry-.
..about that." Molly walked in, closing the door behind her so that the others couldn't hear. "It wasn't that bad, was it?"
Augustine shook his head and looked back out the window. He was still pretty emotionally shaken and he didn't feel that he could handle Molly right now.
Molly walked into the room and sat herself down on the bed. "I also wanted to apologize for those,...things that I said to you earlier." There was a tightness in her throat but she fought it. "Sorry..." she said sincerely.
"That's number two," Augustine said, still not looking at her. "Now if Garth apologizes after he sobers up I wont have to beat anyone."
Molly stayed on the bed, not saying anything else. She was expecting some sort of apology too. She kept her eyes locked on the back of his head.
The silence was aggravating. Augustine threw his cigarette out the window and turned to face Molly, his hands on his knees. All of a sudden his hear filled up and he wanted to talk about what he was feeling, but, being Augustine, he shoved it down and just gruffly said, "What?"
"Nothing." Molly said, still waiting for him to say something. Her eyes went down to her knees as she sat on the bed. She then looked back to Augustine. At least he was looking at her now.
"Then why are you still here?" Augustine asked, sounding both annoyed and desperate. Her presence was making him break again and she was the last person he wanted to cry in front of.
Molly stood up and took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. Two wolves shouting at one another is something that the pack didn't need right now. She stepped closer to Augustine, "Don't you think this has gone on long enough? I don't like fighting with you, especially for so long like this."
Augustine didn't say anything. His face just tensed, though not in an angry way. It was more pained then anything.
Molly quickly leaned forwards and wrapped her arms around Augustine in a hug. "Can't we stop this? Please..?" The little bulge in her stomach pressed against Austine's leg as he sat on the windowsill.
Augustine ground his teeth as he tried to stay in control of himself. His breaths were becoming loud and shaky. Awkwardly, he rested his face onto her shoulder and squeezed his eyes shut.
Molly hugged tighter. He hadn't started to shout or push her away, so she held fast. She was unsure what resting his head on her shoulder meant, but it was nice to hold him again.
Augustine inhaled sharply and began to let out a little whimper that he quickly cut off and held his breath.
Seeing that he didn't try to hug back or even move in the slightest, Molly figured perhaps it was a losing battle and let go of him slowly. She stepped back and rubbed her arm, facing the floor. At this point, she was wondering if she even should have touched him like that. Maybe it was the wrong thing to do. Molly just stood there, "Umm..."
Augustine's head fell limply as she pulled away and he let it dangle. He finally exhaled and looked up, looking like he was in complete torment. "Molly-" he said in a strained voice. "I can't do this!" He squeeze his eyes shut again but a tear escaped.
Molly gulped a little when he shouted. She had just managed to see the glisten on his single tear. She approached him again with some hesitation, "Augustine..." she began, but didn't know how to end it.
"I kill humans! I kill humans and dogs, and... everything! I'm a wolf, I kill! These, these kids... What the hell do I do with these kids! Am I supposed to look after them? I'm not even... I'm not even that old! I don't do this! This isn't what I do!" Augustine exclaimed frantically, some more tears escaping.
Molly didn't want to upset him with her views on what wolves are or aren't, but she at least said, "We aren't just killing machines though." She knelt at the window where he was and placed her hands on his knee for support. "I'm not used to it either but-" she paused, "But I'm here to help you Augustine." She smiled gently and looked down at her stomach briefly, "And...Mercie said she can help with the puppies. It's going to be fine."
"She-? They know?" he asked, shocked.
"Just Mercie does as far as I know." Molly shrugged, "She sort of..figured it out. The others will soon too I'm sure." She looked down, then up at him, "But I would be glad if you wanted to help me too..." she added, referring to the puppies.
Augustine looked down towards her stomach and a wave of stress blasted through him. He seemed to panic a little. He wanted to run away, but he knew that was the last thing he could do. "I... I think there's something wrong with me..." he said.
"Huh? Garth didn't bite you, did he?" Molly asked with a frightfully worried tone in her voice, she looked up at him, hoping that it wasn't the case.
"No! I-" he stopped. "I'm freaking out! I'm just constantly freaking out... I just, I don't fucking know."
Molly closed her eyes and rested her head on Augustine's leg. She moved her head back and forth, nuzzling her cheek on his knee slowly. "I know you'll do just fine. I'll be right there with you too, I promise."
Augustine found that comforting. "I want to lay down..." he said. He wasn't asking her to stop or go away... simply just continue this somewhere comfy.
"Sure." Molly said, getting up and stepping away so he could sit on the bed. She smiled, thankful that she was actually getting somewhere with him now. Maybe things would get better.
He laid down, but left room for her. He needed major cuddling right now. He refused to admit it though, since it was sissy. He gave her a sad painful glance, hoping she'd come over.
His expressions were heart wrenching. Molly had never seen him so...emotional before. She walked to the other side of the bed and slipped on, behind him. Unsure why, but her eyes were watering a little. Molly shuffled closer and slipped her arm over his side and rested the hand on his chest. She bent her legs so they fit in the bend of his. With her head above his shoulder, she leaned in and gave the side of his neck a quick kiss before she rested her head back onto the pillow. Without speaking, they were communicating.
Having her there definitely helped. He felt his stress start to melt away so he just closed his eyes and let a sort of serenity come over him.
Molly took a deep breath through her nose. "I have to admit that I missed your scent too." she said, a little embarrassed.
"Mm," Augustine said, to far into his happy place.
Molly stayed silent and closed her eyes. Her little belly bump was up against his back.
