My character, Seik, is the alpha male in the Moonraiser pack. Seik is jet black with bold white stripes on his forehead, back legs, and one running the length of his tail. His eyes are blue, except when he changes to evil, then he grows a pair of bloody-colored wings and his eyes change to yellow. His pack only hunts and travels by the moon, as the day is used for sleeping and playing with the puppies.
Seik stood atop a large boulder, his cold blue eyes surveying the moonlit-strick
en lands below. His ears swiveled forward as his blackened muzzle sniffed for any sound and smell. Seik's tail curled around his body. He sat on his rump, his head still raised in attention. He heard his pack whine and shift behind him, but his eyes were locked on the lands. He suddenly threw back his head and let loose a shrill howl, his voice echoing off of the trees. He waited for a response.
Across several miles, Spaik's camp caught the report of Seik's howling.
"I'll return shortly." Spaik flashed a grin to his mate, Irza, and spread his gleaming plumage, the white wings that had earned him the nickname of White Nocturne. Then he embarked over the forest of dark pines towards the direction of the howl.
Zaske sits behind a tree close to Seik. Sits wondering what to do. Starts to panic waiting, just waiting as he has beenfor the past few hours. "What am I going to do?"
Seik glances at Zaske, his eyes gleaming slightly. He curls his muzzle into a snarl. "You and I will fight. The war must go on.. He growls, thinking of his father, who was killed in battle. "We must fight for the northern lands that was rightfully ours, brother." He stands, his powerful back legs straight and sleek. His tail flicks to the right, brushing his side. "Zaske, do you see that?" His muzzle was pointed to the sky, his eyes locked on a wheeling figure above. "Do you think it's.. " He stopped in his sentance and watched the bird-like figure.
Zaske stares at the figure as well and lowers his head meanicingly.
At that moment, Spaik descends from his hovering spiral and gracefully lands in a barren patch of dirt between Zaske and Seik, his wings churning up fickle clouds of dust. He folds his tools of flight and greets his two comrades with a snarl. "As you can see, I've arrived. What has come up?"
Seik turns to Spaik as he descends from the sky. A smile plays upon his already-twisted muzzle. "Welcome, brothen, to my land. I have called you for help." He bows his head slightly to the other male, showing no hostility. His eyes lock on the ground, not wanting to anger Spaik with eye contact. "Will you fight on my side in the battle between my clan and the northern?" he asks, his ears perking for an answer. He growls slightly. "Or you can ignore my offer and remain independant." His ears twitched.
Spaik acknowledged gravely, his bright eyes piercing intently into Seik. "To be in your presence, friend, brings me joy and sorrow all at once. I've shared many laughs and tears with you. And now, to hear of this war you plan... I fear for my family, that a battle may erupt on a larger scale, as it did before." Then he snorted in confusion. "I thought your clan was to remain isolated. What do the others in your midst think of your plans?"
Seik snorted, his eyes starting to cloud yellow in anger. "The others.. They scorned my plans and left me in the dust. My pack is only isolated becuase they wish it so." He growls as he feels his wings start to try nad push out of his back. His eyes moved back to Spaik. The pupils had begun to glow a bright yellow, as if he was a hawk. "My friend, I also fear for my family. For if I withdraw now.." He glanced back at his awaiting pack, his eyes straying to the little ones waiting nervously between the paws of their mothers. He let his wings stretch out to reassure and comfort them. "... I fear for this entire land. The northern pack is powerful and evil, Spaik." Seik turned his head to face the male. "I cannot vanquish them alone, dear friend.."
Spaik's throat rumbled in near-livid impatience. "We share the responsibility of raising clans to continue to inhabit this world!" The crimson edges of his pupils now broadened, threatening to engulf the dim, golden centers of the irises. His wings flapped twice, buffeting the earth with their might. "If we fight against the northern clans, we will be devoured! And what proof do you own of such a threat from the north!? They will not attack..." His ears lowered in anxiety and he took a step backward, his pupils narrowing. "Will they?"
Seik looked at his friend. "You want proof?" His voice was hard, as if a weight had settled on his body. He turned around, his leathery wings curled close to his body. His eyes narrowed at his pack. "Saiske, come here.." He said, his voice now soft and sweet. "It's alright.." His eyes softened greatly, his maw in a frown as a small puppy stepped forward. This puppy was scrawny, looking no older than three months. The puppy tentatively stepped forward and crawled on her belly up to her father. She stopped, her tail quivering, in front of him. Seik nuzzled the little pup. "Here, honey.." he pushed her forward towards Spaik. "See the wounds? They are from one of the nothern pack's hunters. I found her in the woods in a worse condition than this." The pup physically flinched as she was pushed towards the large male. She whimpered.
"I see..." the sable-coated wolf narrowed his eyes in speculation, which blanketed a surging ocean of grief inside his heart. Hs folded his wings and padded forward to inspect the tiny pup. "Your eyes show strength... though you pretend to be weak." He said contemplatively as he circled the quivering Saiske. "Soon, you will grow into your own spirit. Until then..." Spaik raised his head to glare at Seik. Then, visibly, his visage softened as he dropped his gaze back down to the small wolf. "I will work with your guardian... and the other wolves among us... to preserve your pure heart, allowing it to flourish, along with the others of the young generation." He looked back to Seik again, with an auspicious grin. "Seik!!! I have now seen that the northern wolves forget about their honor. What they have done to this pup...is unforgivable. I will return to my clan and receive their imput. Then, I will tell you my decision." He spread his wings, ready to sail into the moonlight. "Have you any more to inform me of?"
Seik shakes his head, nuzzling his pup back into the protection of his towering legs. She glandly skittered into the space between his pillars. Seik raisedd his head once more to his friend, his fierce yellow eyes portraying sadness and anger. He bows his head lightly to the male in respect. "Thank you, my friend." He replies, his wings also lowering to his sides. The leather crinkled slightly. He raised his head once more to watch Spaik depart. "Take care, my friend, and good luck. May the moon be with you and protect us all!" He heard an uproar from his pack as he mentioned the moon. The female's throats sang in the song of the moon.
As Spaik glid under the deep, velvet tapestry of the night sky, he wrestled with his conscience, the image of Saiske still ripping into his mind. "I've seen that pup before... What are her eyes telling me?"
Seik bent his noble head and picked up his pup by the scruff, his sharp teeth becoming gentle, holding on to her skin. The puppy instantly went limp, her father's teeth carrying her to the pack. The other wolves watched as he loped by, then one by one, began to follow him into their den. The five females instantly went to the back of the small cave, carrying or shooeing their young along. The three other males followed them, laying in front of the females and pups to protect them. Seik lay in front of them all, his head straight and watching the outside world. To his side was his Beta brother. His eyes turned to him as his wings settled in. "Zaske, what plans do you have for the war?" This question was unexpected, for Seik almost never asked his clan for advice. He was always the one to give it.
