This is my entry for the What if... contest.

Hey everyone out there!

You know, there are a few things you take for granted. For instance, that when you breath in, you get air, that most businesses are open nine-to-five, except for some gas stations and all nightclubs, and that the sun rises and falls.

That last one gets me every time.

It had been a normal day, the day my life was ruined, and forecasts were for a clear night. I was looking forwards to a potluck my friends were throwing. Nobody expected what would happen next.

Evening came, and the sun slid towards the horizon. Bright red hues decorated the clouds, as the sky faded to a bruised purple. People all over were getting ready for another summer night of fun. They waited by their doors for true night to come.

But, as you know, it never did. The sun stopped at the horizon and stayed there.

Some of the vampires (yes, I'm a vampire, get over it) walked right out into it, thinking all was safe. They were dusted instantly.

I don't know what made me pause to turn on the radio; maybe it was instinct, maybe it was just my habit of checking the traffic. Either way, it saved my life. My friend Morgan wasn't so lucky.

So, the cat's out of the bag. Vampires were exposed to the world when the world stopped turning. More than exposed, made captives in our own homes, except those lucky ones on the other side of the world.

Fortunately, most humans haven't noticed (except for you, obviously). They were all too worried about the world's new spin rate. I wonder what will happen to us, and by us I mean everyone. Is this the end?

Even vampires need to eat, and although the idea of a world that half lives in shadows all the time is kind-of nice, I don't see how agriculture could continue, unless there are some seriously hardy plants.

I don't envy those people who are getting the full brunt of the sun on a 24 hour basis either. Their side is going to turn into a desert. Perpetual sunset is bad enough. It's pretty, yes, but bloody deadly (by the way, I saw images of it on TV; I'm not stupid enough to look out my window).

Yup, well the Earth is going down, and even if humans make it, I doubt if many of my race will. Especially after 'the sun's stopped!' crisis is over, and you humans can focus on other problems. Namely us.

If life wasn't hard enough already…but I'm not going to bore you with that kind of talk.

This is what I'm trying to get to. I need help. I'm stuck in my own house, and though the delivery services are still running pretty well, I'm worried about the attitudes of some of my neighbours. I won't be able to do anything if they decide to attack me.

I am asking, no begging you to please, please help me get out of here! I promise that I only drink the blood I get through my friend at the donation centre! And please, if you can't help me, help my friends. Help the people, the vampires, in your neighbourhood get out of there alive. We aren't all bad guys!

I'm pleading with you to save my race. I don't know if it will do any good, but I had to try.

Pass this message on to your friends, if you think they will help.

If you send this on to ten people and take action in your community, congrats! You have helped saved a race, and will live a long, fulfilled life.

If you send this on to five people and haven't taken action, yay! At least you're passing it on, you might have problems with your boy/girlfriend though, because they too could be a vampire.

If you send this on to a couple people for a laugh and don't take action, boo! May you burn in hell! And trust me, I know it exists!

Thank you, and enjoy the sunset.
