The main street of Osvik, since the war of corruption ended most coastal towns have been in the rundown. But Osvik is completely deserted. The inhabitants hide in their houses for fear of Verholm's men. You can smell the fear and decay in the air, a few metres to the west is the Osvik pier, many ships lie their without sails by Skelle's ordinance, the only vessel that seems to receive regular care due to it's condition is a small and fast looking ship with the name "The Wisp" written on the side. To the North lies the main road, which leads to the Osvik barracks and town wall Gate. To the south lies another road, nothing but battered houses that way. To the east, what used to be the Osvik Market, a few starving merchants still try to sell their overpriced goods there. Several loud noises emerge from a nearby tavern and a man with a spear and a small wooden shield stands near the door.

Time - 1:45 pm

Gaius approaches the main street carefully, trying his best not to be seen.

Eirian throws a small nod in Gaius' direction before lauching herself onto the roof of one of the buildings. She crouches low and keeps in stride with the group.

Saris walked silently some steps behind Gaius.

Urien had already postioned himslelf in a dark area of the strret, wrapped up like a tramp. He raised a hand as the others neared.

A stranger walks down the streets, he had obviously just arrived in town and didn't know what was happening. He seemed to be from the sea, with a pirates shirt on as well as a jeriken and slightly tattered light blue pants. His blond hair swayed in all directions and his light blue cape was covering his face from sight. He took out a kama which strangly, really was a sythe but the man didn't put the other pieces to it together, though he was swinging it around by the chain. The sythe could be heard cutting the air as well as the rattling of the chains.

Saris turned to look from where a chains noise was comming from. She looked at the blonde man, not really caring about him, but hoping he wouldn't interfere with the plans they had for Skelle...

"I wonder if anyone is willing to fight, I heard there were bandits here, but then again it could have been rumor," the man said, still spinning around his sythe, he seemed rather amuzed with the item.

Urien slowly approached the door of "The Golden Sail" hoping to draw the attention of Skelle and his men to lure them out of the tavern.

Gaius turned to the stranger and and approached him. "You better leave, this is gonna get ugly" he said quietly as he grasped his staff, just in case the man was one of Verholm's lackeys.

Eirian positions herself on a roof directly across from the taverns door. Hunkered down, her grey-black wings help to disguise her against the slate. She aims at the new comer, ready to shoot him down if he causes trouble, but keeps an eye on the tavern door.

The man kept swinging around his sythe, all around him as if he was cutting tons of weeds. "Farmer senses tingling," he said with a laugh as he kept up the motion of his sythe. He was doing this so if any weapon of any sort could be blocked easily.

Eirians' wounded shoulder began to ache from keeping her bow taught, but she resisted the urge to release the tension, lest the stranger strike Gaius down. Her arms start to quiver with the effort.

"This place is as uninteresting as a windless ocean it is," the amn said, his swinging pace now slower. He seemed to get bored, yet stiill walked back and forth in order to find anything that might be of any interest.

With a sudden twang and a slight jerk of her arm, Eirian accidently loosens an arrow at the stranger. The jerk of her arm sends it slightly off its original target of the strangers chest.

The stranger hears the arrow fly though the air and none the less, he trys to cut it, or, in other terms, stop it, with his sythe.

Urien turned towards the newcomer. "Drop your weapon!!" he barked in his commanding voice.

Saris looked up surprised to where Eirian was. "Now, what's this girl doing!" Se then turned to Urien. With that, they surely got the atention of the people inside the tavern. She cursed the stranger for being there and moved closer to the tavern, half hidden by the shadows of the buildings, ready to fight if it was necessary.

The arrow flies towards Wolgang but luckily the spinning scythe deflects the arrow. Just then a loud laughter is heard from the Tavern. Skelle stood there merrily flailing around a longsword amd laughing out. "You should think twice before talking so loud if you want to surprise anyone kids" he said with a smirk. 6 men emerged from the tavern and 2 archers aimed at the group from the windows in the second storey. "Chop'em up nicely boys!" yelled Skelle.

Combat has started! -
The turns are as following - Eirian, Saris, Skelle, Kah'ta, Wolfgang, Urien, Skelle's Archers, Gaius, Skelle's Warriors.

Eirian's Turn! -

"Shit!!" Eirian curses and sets another arrow, aiming for one of the archers. She lets the arrow loose and prepares to fire again.

Eirian's arrow flies steadily towards the archer and strikes him in the chest dealing 9 damage, barely alive, the man falls off the window of the tavern, receiving an extra 10 damage from the fall.

Saris's Turn! -

Saris doesn't think much and runs towards the closest warrior to strike him with her scimitars, hoping to get him out of combat quickly.

The warrior reacts quickly and blocks Saris's first scimitar with his short sword, he then tries to dodge the second scimitar but barely fails receiving a scratch and 1 damage.

Skelle runs towards Urien and tries to slash him with his longsword and his shortsword!

Urien quickly readies his shield and attempts to block the slash.

Urien manages to block the first slash but when he raises his shield Skelle drives his shorsword deep into Urien's side dealing 16 damege. Urien's face contorts in pain as he falls to the ground, bleeding.

Wolfgang's Turn! -

Wolfgang, well, the new person, runs up to the closest warrior and trys to strike him down with his spinning sythe.

The warrior quickly raises his short sword to block the incoming attack but the chain wraps around the sword and strikes him near the shoulder blade dealing 6 damage!

Urien looses 1 HP due to intense bleeding, Urien now has -7/10 HP.

The remaining archer in the rooftop quickly loads and arrow and fires towards Eirian!

Eirian rolls herself to the right in an attempt to dodge the arrow.

Eirian moves to the side quickly, but not fast enough, the arrow scratches her right arm dealin 1 damage

Eirian now has 5/10 HP!

Gaius's Turn! -

Gaius quickly runs towards Urien and trying to stay as far as possible from Skelle he chugs both his healing potions down his throat.

Urien heals 10 HP worth of damage.
Urien now has 4/10 HP!

The warrior Saris attacked moves to the left and spins as he tries to backslash Saris!

Saris tried to move as fast as posible to evade the slash.

Saris barely dodges the slash but in the process she looses her balance and falls to the ground.

The Warrior fighting with Wolfgang pulls his sword entangled sword trying to pull Wolfgang towards him and trying to hit him in the stomach with his knee!

Wolfgang trys to pull the handle of his sythe to the knee of the warrior, with the possibility to hurt the man and not be hurt himself.

The warrior's knee strikes the scythe's handle and Wolfgang is able to free his chain from the short sword, however the warrior does not receive any damage. A second warrior quickly approaches Wolfgang from behin and attempts to backstab him!

Wolfgang quickly trys to dodge the attacker by side-steping to his left.

Wolfgang doesn't manage to side step quickly enough and the warrior's blade makes a deep cut on his left arm dealing 2 damage!

The fourth of Vallmak's warriors rushes towards Saris to help his companion and he tries to stab her near the waist!

Saris saw the other man comming. She murmured something and rolled over the floor, trying to escape the man's blade.

Saris rolls away just in time as the warriors blade strikes the ground!

The fifth of Skelle's warrior lunges forward towards Urien and tries to slash him before he can get up!

Urien attempts to roll out of the way and raise his shield to block the attack.

In his attempt to block Urien manages to bash the warrior's side with his shield and the man falls to the ground!

The last of Skelle's men runs towards Wolfgang and tries to stab him in the side!

Wolfgang trys to block the attacker with his sythe in an attempt that might disarm the warrior.

Wolfgang did not manage to withdraw his scythe from the first warrior's knee fast enough, but luckily for him the warrior attacking him missed the slash!

Eirian's Turn! -


Sights set on the remaining archer, Eirian lets loose another arrow...

Once more the arrow strikes full at it's target. The archer receives the arrow in the chest and falls back into the room through the window, right now it's impossible to determine wether he's dead or not!

Saris's Turn! -

Saris stands as fast as she can and attacks the warrior who had tried to stab her.

The warrior manages to block Saris's first scimitar with his Short sword but the second sword burrows deep into his chest dealing 12 damage!

Skelle, infuriated by Urien's recovery lunges forward once more and tries to cut off his head!

Urien quickly raises his sword and blocks off Skelle's attack!

Wolfgang's Turn! -

Wolfgang takes his sythe and attempt to spin it around to take both of the warriors on at once, and maybe kill them rather then just hurt them.

Wolfgang's scythe strikes the first warrior right in the head the scythe penetrates deep into his eye dealing 20 damage, the scythe, however, is stopped and does not reach the second warrior.

Urien's Turn! -

Urien swings his sword around and, trying to keep safely away from Skelle, he slashes against one off his warriors.

The warrior fails to block in time and Urien's sword slashes him in the chest dealing 10 damage. The man falls backwards, barely alive and unconcious.

Gaius rushes towards Urien and casts a healing spell on him.

The healing spell recovers 3 more HP to Urien

The first of Skelle's warrior's, previously wounded by Wolfgang's scythe, charges agains him trying to stab him.

Wolfgang quickly trys to move away from the warrior with scythe raised.

The warrior strikes the chain of the scythe and it entangles his sword, he quickly pulls away accidentaly slashing Wolfgang across the chest with his own Scythe dealing 8 damage!

Wolfgang now has 2/10 HP!

The second of Skelle's warriors quickly runs towards Saris and tries to slash her neck!

Saris tries to block the warrior's attack.

Saris crosses her scimitars in front of her and deflects the warriors attack, meanwhile Skelle's third warrior lunges at her from the side.

Saris tries to dodge the attack of the third warrior!

Saris quickly move to the side and the warrior's sword hits one of the wooden pillars and sticks in it!

Eirian's Turn! -

...She aims for one of the warriors attacking Saris and shoots...

Eirian's arrow flies steadily and strikes the warrior on the back dealing 12 damage, the warrior tries to reach for the arrow but is unable, after an instant, the pain brings him down!

Saris's Turn! -

Saris glances up to Eirian with a smile and attacks the warrior on the floor intending to finish him.

The warrior in the floor, almost dead, is unable to defend and Saris sticks her scimitar into his chest killing him inmediately.

Skelle quickly drops his shortsword as he sees Eirian decimating his men, he pulls out what seems like a small musket from his belt and fires it towards Eirian!

Eirian ducks down flat against the roof top, covering herself with her wings.

As Eirian ducks the bullet strikes the wall of the builing. Apparently Skelle's aim was not too good.

Wolfgang's Turn! -

Seeing the destructive power of the weapon, Wolfgang runs to the man and trys to strike at him with his scythe.

Skelle quickly moves to the side and jabs his sword in the way of the scythe, once the chain has entangled around the sword, he pulls it aways forcing wolfgang to let go of his scythe!

Urien's turn! -

Urien quickly slashes back at Skelle.

Skelle quickoly raises his shield and blocks Urien's attack!

Gaius runs towards Saris and tries to strike down the warrior attacking her.

Gaius manages to strike right at the man's head opening a gash in his skin and dealing 6 damage! Nevertheless the man continues to fight!

The wounded warrior quickly falls back and tries to run to a nearby alley. The second warrior lunges forward and tries to finish off the weaponless Wolfgang!

"Uh oh," Wolfgang said as he tried to dodge away from the man as well as grab his scythe.

Wolfgang barely manages to dodge the slash as the cut in his chest gives him a searing pain.

Eirian's Turn! -

Eirian lets fly another arrow, aiming for the warrior attacking the new-comer...

Eirian's arrow flies and strikes the warrior in the chest. The warrior is pushed a few steps back and keeps on with his attack, apparently the arrow did not penetrate his armor!

Saris's Turn! -

Saris sees the unknow man is in trouble, and attacks the warrior who's attacking him.

Saris sneaks up on the warrior attacking wolfgang and sticks both her scimitars in his back, dealing 30 damage! the man falls to the ground, dead.

Skelle's turns to see most of his warriors dead and begins to retreat throught the northern road, probably heading towards the guard post!

Kah'ta's Turn! -

Kah'ta suddenly appears in the middle of the road, blocking Skelle's escape route. "Coward..."

Kah'ta lunges forward drawing his longsword and slicing across Skelle's mid-section.

Skelle tries to parry with his shield but he's tacken by surprise by Kah'ta's sudden aparition, the slash gats him in the stomach causing profuse bleeding and dealing 13 damage!

Wolfgang's Turn! -

Wolfgang looks back at the catfolk and says in a calm voice, "Thank you," then picks up his scythe and heads after Skelle.

Urien's Turn! -

"What took you so long Kah'ta?!" Urien cheerfully yells as he rushes towards Skelle and tries to attack him in the back with his longsword.

Urien's attack strikes Skelle in the back but his longsword is unable to penetrate Skelle's splint mail!

Gaius quickly moves near the Golden Sail, trying to cut off the escaping warrior and bash him once more with his staff!.

Gaius's Staff strikes but the wall of the tavern as the warrior pulls back, dodging the blow!

Inmediately afterwards the warrior turns and tries to punch Gaius, since his short sword was still stuck in one of the wooden pillars of the tavern entrance.

Gaius quickly raises his staff in an attempt to block the warrior's attack!

The warrior's fist strikes Gaius's staff as the parry is succesful.

Eirian's Turn! -

She lets loose another arrow at the warrior attacking Gaius, this time aiming for a suspected weak spot in his armour...

Eirian's arrow strikes the warrior in the upper stomach, cleanly diving through it's armor and dealing 6 damage, since the warrior was already wounded he falls to the ground, dying.

Saris's Turn! -

"You're welcome" Saris said to Wolfgang and then moved right to where Skelle was and attacked him. She wouldn't let him flee.

Saris's first blade is deflected by Skelle's splin mail, however the second one slashes right through his arm, dealing 3 damage and leaving a nasty cut.

Skelle Turns to Saris inmediately afterwards and tries to slash her with his longsword!

Saris tries to deflect his attack blocking with her scimitars.

Saris manages to trap Skelle's longsword between her scimitars, forcing him to let go of the weapon!

Kah'ta's turn! -

Kah'ta quickly jumps towards Skelle slashing at his chest with his longsword.

Skelle raises his shield and easily blocks Kah'ta's slash!

Wolfgang's Turn! -

Wolfgang, finaly catching up to Skelle, trys to strike him with his scythe.

Skelle quickly moves to the side and out of the way as Wolfgang's scythe strikes the ground of the main street.

Urien's Turn! -

Urien makes to sweep out Skelle's legs, but fakes it and instead changes it at the last moment into an upward thrust at Skelle's midriff.

Urien't feint works perfectly and he slashes skelle on the side dealin 10 damage! Skelle falls on to his knees and some blood comes out of the side of his mouth. He finally drops to the floor, dying.

Urien whooped in triumph. "Woohah! Two of Verholm's better lackies, both killed by a local knight!" He raised his sword and laughed loudly.

"You just were lucky" Saris said looking at Urien. Then she turned to Wolfgang. "Who are you?" she asked.

Wolfgang laughed a little as he put his scythe away and bowed, "Wolfgang at your service, though, you can call me Wolf," he said, sounding a little formal.

"You are a lochmorian right?" asked Gaius unable to shake off his suspicion of the newcomer. "Are you from Osvik or some other part of Lochmore?"

"I'm from here and there," Wolf said as he got back up, "And yes, I am a lochmorian, have a problem with that?" he asked, retaliating with a question of his own.

"I hold no quarrel with any Lochmorian, Urien here is a capable fighter and a good friend, I just wished to hear your answer, all the men we just killed were lochmorians as well, but if i had asked them the same question, their answer would've probably been, I am a Nervan." replied Gaius as he smirked at Wolfgang's defensiveness.

"Anyways," Wolf started, laughing a little, "Where are you people headed? Seems rather interesting, and I owe this fine lady," Wolf said as he glanced over at Saris, "My life, so must repay somehow, maybe I can be of service," he suggested.

"You don't need to pay me anything" Saris said surprised. Nobody had ever said something like that to her. "We're just trying to get out of this city... These here" - she said looking at the dead warriors - "were some of Verholms men". She cleaned the blood away from her scimitars and sheathed them.

"No, I owe you something, after all I might have died then, if you hadn't stoped that warrior," Wolf said, seeming like it ment everything to him. He tended to over react about these sort of things.

Saris blushed, but that was barely visible because of her dark skin. "Well... do as you wish" she said to Wolf. She then turned and knelt besides Skelle, interested in seeing if his strange firearm was still there.

Amongs Skelle's things Saris manages to fing the pistol, next to it there's a small pouch containing several tiny lead spheres and thight packs of what appears to be black poweder wrapped in paper.

Saris examined the pistol with curiosity, but carefully. "We should see what they all are carrying... Maybe we could use some things"

"Aye," muttered Urien, as he began to search among the possessions of the dead warriors and Skelle.

Eirian leaps off the roof top and lands neatly nearby. She looks flustered as she heads over near Gauis, "Sorry..."

"Why would you apologize?" replies Gaius

Saris looked the things Urien had found, suddenly seeing a piece of paper between other stuff. "Is that a letter? Let me see" she said, attempting to read what was written in the piece of paper.

The letter reads -

Skelle,
Our suspicions were true, a blue agent has managed to enter the town and may try to distrupt our operations. Lord Barenzo is not pleased at this and has ordered that this spy is located and killed at once. Should this agent succeed that may give that lousy child empress the input she needs to send "peace-keeping" forces into Nerva, since Lord Antiscious is no longer with us, it's up to us and Barenzo to keep the red dominion over the lands of Lochmore, Caerham is as good as gone and Rhoa is shaking, we muist set a strong foothold here if we are to retake the territories Lord Antiscious fought so hard to take from his sister's grip.

                Verholm.



Eirian looks pointedly at Wolfgang and replies, "For loosing an arrow at you, that is."

"Your the one who tried to shoot me!" Wolf yells out at Eirian, "So great job," he added with a clap.

Eirian looks slightly confused and grins awkwardly, "Er... Thanks." She shakes her head to herself and then sets about salvaging her used arrows.

Wolfgang seemed to freeze that second. "I was being sarcastic!" he said, trying not to say anything that might be insulting to the hauken.

Eirian turns and stares at him for a moment, confusion rampant on her face, before shaking her head, "I don't understand." She looks over at Gauis questioningly.

Saris looked up from the letter to look at Gaius. "They know you're here... and that we might want to 'distrupt their operations' what I think we've already done, anyway... uhm" she took the letter and gave it to Gaius. "Look..."

Urien stripped off his leather armour and put on the splint mail he had found. "Ah! Now this is the armour of a knight!" He held up the black cloak. "Ooh, I'd really like this too, but I'll offer it to you lot first," he added, holding out the cloak to the other members of the group. "We might also want to share out the potions and gold. There's more arrows, swords and bows."

Gaius checked the letter and inmediately handed it to Urien. "You might find this interesting..." he said as he counted the gold and divided it into 6 equal piles of 32 gold pieces each. Inmediately afterwards he bagged his share of the gold.

Urien pocketed the gold and read the letter. "So, Verholm and Barenzo are working together to wrestle Nerva from the Empress's grasp... it's not going to happen... because we are going to stop them!" He swung the cloak round his shoulders and fastened it. "How do I look?" he asked.

"Like a big man with a cloak" Saris said, rolling her eyes. She pocketed her gold and took one of the short swords. "Well, what's next?" she said looking at the group. "Verholm will miss his men..."

"Indeed" replied Gaius Gaius opening and drinking the Lesser Magic Potion. "We must hurry and strike at Verholm's manor before he realizes Skelle failed. We should stop by the guards post in the way, the "taxes" collected during this month should be stashed there, that money must be returned to the citizens of Osvik."

Eirian, having recovered three of her arrows from the dead, pocketed her share of the gold and peeked over Urien's shoulder at the letter. After a moment she shook her head in frustration, unable to read the strange writing. "Does anyone else want some of the arrows?" She asked, poking a boot toe into the remaining spoils.

Wolfgang sighed as he too his share of the gold and then took a longbow, "I guess I can learn how to use a bow, if you can teach me that is," he said to Eirian.

She shrugs in reply, still unsure of this stranger and his odd mannerisms. "I can try." She tosses him twenty of the arrows and a quiver.

"All really depends though it I can join you all," Wolfgang commented, acting as if it was all normal.

"I thought you would be comming anyway" Saris said looking at Wolfgang. "Here, you should take one of these..." she handed him the healing potion.

"If you insist," Wolfgang said with a small laugh. He took the healing potion and drank it down quickly.

Urien nodded. "You should come with us. Who knows how much more resistance we will face before we take out Verholm..."

"Well i think it's decided" said Gaius cheerfully, "Besides due to the situation of this town i doubt you coul go somewhere else if we don't get rid of Verholm." he then stopped looking at the leftover loot. "You should also take a shortbow if you are going to use those arrows, and some armor, Mancer clothes won't do much good against a sword. And someone who can use it, please take that longsword, it's good weapon and it pains me to leave it abandoned."

Urien flicked the sword up into his hand with his boot and eyed it. "Seems of good quality..." He swung the blade round and span round, making slices and thrusts in the air. "Very well balanced... I'll take it, and perhaps I can use it if my other sword is lost or damaged."

Wolfgang sighed and took the shortbow as well as some leather armor which he quickly equipted. "So where is ths Verholm?" he asked anyone who would listen.

Urien slung the new sword over his back. "Verholm is holed up in his estate in the suburbs of the city. Its going to be difficult to break in there... but maybe we don't!" he crowed as an idea came to him. "Its so simple I don't know why I didn't think of it before!!"

Saris turned to Urien. "Think of what?" she asked.

Urien laughed. "He's holed up like a fox in a den! How do you get a fox out of its lair? You smoke it out!! So, let us smoke out Verholm!!"

"It's not a bad idea. If we're lucky, he won't be too escorted..." Saris said. "But how are we goingo to do that?"

"Arrows wrapped in cloth dipped in pitch... these make excellent fire arrows... torches flung through windows or onto roofs will help get a blaze going too," Urien explained.

"And I could always carry pitch onto the roof," Eirian said with a shrug, flapping her wings.

"I think that would be a good idea, however we might accidentally burn down the whole manor along with any treasures or evidence of Verholm's activities that he might have stored there..." commented Gaius rather concerned.

Urien paced around a moment, pondering on what to do. "Two or three of us could sneak into the building as the others start a fire. The smaller party would have to be quick and inconspicuous, so as they don't get caught in the blaze. They find something like a letter or whatever that proves Verholm is working against the Empress."

"Well, Verholm has been pretty outspoken about about his oposition to the empress, when it comes down to it he is just a local Lord and he stands no chance against the Caessen Army. It is Barenzo's implication that bothers me, first off he was supposed to be dead or at least far away from Nerva, I bet there are still lot's of zealots out there willing to die for the Nervan church, and Barenzo is just the man to convince them." replied Gaius looking at Urien, then he turned to the others pretty sure they did not know what he was talking about.

"True," nodded Urien. "But prook of Verholm's treachery will probably alert the Empress to how much hold the Red has here in Nerva... but I agree, Barenzo is probably the one we want to show as the danger. However, we're going to have to deal with them one at a time."

"Indeed" replied Gaius "So i guess we could do as following, Kah'ta, Saris and me will sneak into the manor while you, Eirian and Wolfgang get ready to torch the place, with Eirian's aim this should be no problem. And with Kah'ta's and Saris's stealth we should be able to sneak in undetected. As soon as we find something useful we'll signal you and you will start the fire, then we can all ambush Verholm when he gets out, it would be better if we got him alive."

Urien frowned. "I doubt Verholm will be taken alive, but we shall see. If we can subdue him, then I have no quarrel with bringing him to the justice of the Empress, but if he won't go quietly, then I will be more than glad to execute him in the name of Nerva!"

"I understand you, but i'd rather turn him in to the Sentinels in Decima City, they should be able to get from him all the information Lady Claudia should need." Gaius said while moving a bit towards the east road. "We should get going now."

Urien followed. "Please do not confuse my words and actions as treason against the lady Empress, for I would die before I betray Nerva... if the best way I can serve Lady Claudia is bringing Verholm before her so he can be put on trial, then that is what I will do, despite my own hatred for the villain."

Saris nodded at Gaius suggestion. "Fine, let's go then" she said and moved to the east road.

Eirian just shrugs and follows Saris.

"Guess we should listen to the Lady," Wolfgang commented as he followed Daris and Eirian, not quite used to the sight of someone with wings.
