The Pa-Kua (also known as Ba-Gua, Pa-Gua, Baqua, Bagua, etc.) means "8 mutations" and the simble is the 8 trigrams:

wich this Martial Art is based mainly. The Martial Art of the Pa-Kua is based in three principles:

The principle of the Yin and Yang,

the principle of the I Hsing, the Five Elements,

and the principle of the Pa-Kua, the 8 Mutations

The Pa-Kua was, since it's creation around 2000 years ago, an exclusive family martial arts and medicine studies. But, in the 60s, an Argentine named Rogelio J. M. Giordano Magliacano went to China and convinced the master of the style to teach him and to give him permision to share with all the world. Today there are schools at several countries including Europe countries, USA, Brazil and lot others.

There are no competitions, otherwise it would be degenerated and loose its real combat eficiency. There are no katas too.

It is a style known by its circles it forms around the oponent with the presence of the fighter, keeping him inside it. The Pa-Kua fighter can easily be at the oponent's back and avoid blows stepping aside.
It is know for being one of the internal martial arts togheter with Tai-Chi-Chuan and Hsing I.
Its powerfull palm strikes and presure points use make it famous too.

2005-02-12 [M_Sinner]: How can they learn if there are no kata? Sorry, perhaps I am limited in my learning, but kata were one of the only ways (and the most efficient way) I ever learned martial arts. How did they train, and develop a distinct style?

2009-11-15 [manwe]:
first of all, "kata" is a japanese word and can not be related exactly to chinese martial arts, such as paqua. a better term might be "forms", and there are some exercises that are practiced in paqua.

the point of "forms", or "kata" or any other derivation of the term for "exercise" or "practice" is to put together certain aspects of the knowledge, in some formal sequence, in order to simulate it's actual use in a more practical manner.

ALL martial arts do this to some degree or another, but they are merely exercises in which you can get the concept of the practical use or simulated use of these learned skills, in some possible combinations, in some possible situations. in a "real" battle or fight, you would be expected to have assimilated the individual skills, and understood some possible combinations, in order to effectively use them.

while this "class" is, so far, the best presentation, it is abysmal and in need of revisions.

these martial arts groups need some instructors and people who know some real and true answers....
