Shadow Crawl Characters

Carnyn was a decently sized town, nestled between ShadowRange mountains and the Lyshalle Forest, it was out of the way. Unless one counted the fact that it was the one of the gateways into the ShadowRange's few survivable passes, making it an important stop for anyone planning on traveling. Drawing close to winter, the pass through the mountains was trecherous and deadly, but at least the weather held at a cold rain. Snow hadn't come yet, at least to the village. Higher up the mountains, snow was abundant. As night fell, and the rain began to pound anew on the ground and buildings, as the few people outside hurried to their homes or the large tavern, Labled with a clean, well kept sign stating it as 'The Carnyn Hall'. A three story, sprawling tavern and inn, clearly meant for travelers passing through or meaning to stay and rest before trying the mountain pass- or returning from it.

A tall figure in a cloak was walking through the rain towards the mountain, some how it seemed he was dodging the drops without actually moving because he was not wet at all. Looking up at the tavern he seemed to come to a decision and walked in. The door slammed open as the first roll of thunder was heard. He walked over to the bar and sat down.

The common room had a decent crowd, from the looks of it, most of the people there were travelers. A rough crowd, most not happy in the least about the weather. The Bar keeper was a tall thickset human, in a fairly well kept outfit and apron. As the wolf entered and sat down, the keeper moved towards him. "Evening sir. Can I get you anything to eat, or drink? or perhaps a room for the night?" He smiled. Most bar tenders were gruff, used to dealing with troublemakers by force. This man, while big and intimidating and the build of a soldier, seemed genuinely nice.

"A room for one" the wolf said, quietley enough for only the barman to hear "For one night, I'll be setting of tomorrow." he reached down under his cloak and produced a small leather bag. Quietly producing a gold coin of probably enough worth to buy the entire tavern "This is the smallest I've got I'm affraid" he said, handing it over.

The innkeeper's eyes widened at the sheer size of the gold coin. He leaned a bit closer, wanting to avoid the coin attracting unwanted attention. "Here now sir, that'll be more than enough. I'll give you some smaller coin... this isn't the best place to be showing so much money." He smiled, taking the coin and a moment later returning with a rather large pouch of silver and gold coins. The balance of the price for a night's stay. "This should help you get by. If those crown coins are all you have, you should be careful." Along with the smaller coins, he handed the wolf a key. "And here's your room key, sir. Third door on you right, just up the stairs. Will you take your meal in your room, or here in the commonroom sir?"

The wolf smiled as he took the coins and key. "I think I'll have my meal here." he said eyeing the rest of the taverns occupants. Try as he might the landlord had not fully succeded in attracting a few wandering eyes.

A few shadowy figures got up in the corner and began to creep towards the stairs, keeping to the walls. A few whispers were heard from the stairs. The Wolf smiled under his cloak, he'd expected trouble but not so soon.

Th wolf pushed away his plate. He made his way up the stairs, keeping his eye on the shadows. A creak sounded, quite closely. The wolf stopped in the middle of the corridor and looked around. There was a sound of rushing wind, as a thief dropped from the rafters. Dodging backwards the wolf was rushed by two more thiefs in the shadows.

Cursing under his breath there was a swirl of the wolf's clothes and a metalic clang. He had managed to catch the theifs knifes with a battle axe. The wolf then forced the daggers up, so the thiefs unbalanced.

The ambush, while well planned, had under estimated the strength of their target. Very quickly, the thieves realized their mistake. A murmered curse came from one, as they watched their knives fall to the ground, deflected aside by the wolf's menacing axe. One of the theives, appearantly the leader of the trio, spoke over one shoulder to the other two. "We can't do this as planned, Tak and Gren you report back." One of the theives slid back towards the stairs, and with nimble grace of a talented rogue, he jumped up the wall to a hidden rope, and dissapeared up to the rafters and escaped. A moment later, the second thief dissapeared into the darkness above as well. The last remaining theif stood his ground in the wide hall, drawing a black-finished short sword from beneath his cloak, then a vicious barbed dagger in his off hand. "You can make this easy, wolf. Give us you gold, and this'll be over real quick and easy like. It'd be a shame to get blood all over those nice clothes of yours." He gave a grin in the darkness, seeming to slide in the darkness like a half shadow. He was a well built panther, and from the way he held his weapons, he knew how to handle himself.

The wolf smiled. "If blood will be spilled, it shall be yours" he replied, a slight growl in his voice. A flash of movement and the axe was buried in the wall behind the theif. The theif turned as the axe passed him, and when he looked back the wolf was no longer stationary. The wolf was plunging through the air in a half-controlled, half-feral dive. The wolf produced another item from his cloak, and landed infront of the theif. There was a glow in the air from the, now brightly light, staff in the wolf's hands. Light coarsed through the theifs body and with a cut off "Oh FU...." he was catapulted across the hall. The theif grunted and looked down, his shoulder had been pierced by the thrown axe.
The light shined from the wolfs staff again. The theif dissapeared in a flash of light, leaving only a shadow were he was sitting. The other theives seemed to have dissapeared as quickly as the one who was zapped. The wolf wondered on to his room, looking back down the corridor he smirked, his tail swishing wildly under his cloak.
