Vanion D'ask - Prologue

The small catlike boy held onto his little sisters hand as they ran through the house. His eyes darted from side to side, breathing hard as he fled, behind him, the sound of his father roaring through the sound of bullets and bombs. Vanion pulled his sister up higher, running up the stairs, people's voices called out over the sounds, his father's roaring ceased as the little boy ran up the stairs, his wide green eyes frightened. Someone jumped out in-front of them, a man dressed in full black getup a mask over his face and a gun in his hand, he took aim at the two feline children, Vanion remembered what his dad had said: protect your sister with your life. Vanion had vowed, just like his father had done for them, that he would protect his sister.

Vanion leapt for the man, letting go of his sister's hand she ran sideways into another room and hid as Vanion clawed for the man's face, bullets firing randomly into the room as Vanion clawed and gouged. Finally bringing the man down, he was screaming and clutching at his bloodied and now blind face.

Vanion looked around quickly, seeing flashlights downstairs he quickly ran into a side room "Victorya? Where are you!?" he whispered as loud as he dared to. She let out a whine and Vanion found her, one of the stray bullets had torn through the wall and was embedded into her chest. She was still breathing, Vanion had to save her. "Its alright, its going to be okay, come on, we've got to hide!" he whispered urgently.

Victorya let out another whine and a sniff. "It hurts, Vannie," she whispered as he pulled her to her feet and helped her out of the room, looking around quickly for somewhere to hide.

He looked at her, seeing she was paling. "I know. Come on, we've got to find somewhere." He whispered. As they moved along he realised that he could no longer hear the roars of his father. Finally he saw it, a hole in the ceiling and a pull cord for the stairs. Gently resting his sister against the wall he whispered "Its alright Victorya, everything's going to be okay"

The little girl nodded slightly, her hand over her chest, her black fur covered in the thick dark blood that ran out of the wound. She was crying but made no sound, she knew that if they spoke, they would die.

Vanion jumped for the rope, missed. Flashlights shone on the walls, he looked over his shoulder and his panic grew, taking another jump he touched the cord barely but missed again. Vanion's heart was in his chest as his panic rose even more. A voice whispered in his ear "Take your time Vanion... Don't panic." Vanion nodded silently to his mother's voice and took another leap, grabbing the cord the stairs slid down quickly, almost hitting his head. Vanion turned to his sister "Come on, we've got to hurry!' He said half picking her up.

Victorya was barely conscious, her hand over her chest had slackened slightly as she walked weakly up the stairs, Vanion pulling them closed after the two children made it to the roof. As he did so, the flashlights reached the top landing. The men heard something closing, but didn't know what.

Vanion brought his sister one of the old blankets to lie on, they were hiding behind a large wall of boxes, Vanion knew to keep pressure on the wound, his tears falling when he saw truly how bad the wound was "You're gonna be okay," He said through tears, they fell down on the body of his little sister.

The little girl blinked slowly in response, her breathing labored "it hurts.." She whispered softly clutching at his hand "it hurts Vannie.." Her grip tightened on his hand slightly in fear as the pair heard the stairs opening.

Vanion's eyes widened slightly "Stay here.. I'll make them go away" He said and kissed her forehead "Its going to be okay" He re-assured her, and grabbing an old gun from the side, a blunderbuss, he snuck around the boxes and moved to the other side, pointing the weapon at the man that was slowly coming up, sweeping his weapon around.

Vanion darted out from the boxes and pointed the gun at the man before closing his eyes tightly and pulling the trigger. The blunderbuss made an explosive sound having not been used for such a long time it had simply exploded sending the small boy flying back through the air, the left side of his face torn apart from the gun's fragments.

The man on the other side had received a mass off bullets and brass to his chest, he died with an 'o' of shock on his face, others climbed the stairs cautiously, when they saw a dazed bleeding boy slowly getting up, one of them quickly jumped up, swinging the back end of his gun into the boy's head.

As he was carried out his eye slowly opened, unconsciously he called out "Victorya..?" The only thing that responded was one of the men carrying him "She's dead kid." Vanion's mind screamed 'NO' as it faded into the darkness.

From that moment on the boy that was Vanion D'ask died, and the man replaced him. Over time, his brain protected itself from destruction by destroying all memories of that day, and in turn, the days before it, until the creature that was Vanion, had no history, no past, only the present.
