Something tasty this way comes!

The last years, I have discovered an interest in cooking that I never thought I would have. Had someone told me some time ago I'd enjoy spending time in the kitchen and making tasteful presentations - and that I'd invite people over just to have a reason to cook something interesting - I would have laughed in their face. And though, I have slowly learnt and started enjoying cooking, partly because if I didn't, my ex would have fed me solely with ketchup pasta or plain rice, and partly because [Weet-weet] loves it too, and now that we are - and live - together, we try out every idea we have.

So here are pictures of food for you to drool on <img:stuff/zabuN-gif.gif> And of course, ask away any questions that come to your mind. I am but an amateur cook, but I love a good chat about food <img:44166_1164145171.gif>

Yesterday's fruit of 3h spent in the kitchen. Reversed futomaki with cucumber, avocado and salmon.

Tori katsu-don
(Japanese speakers, please correct me if I'm wrong ^^)
Fried chicken, dredged in a beaten egg with soy sauce and mirin, on a bowl of rice.

Last evening's result of 3h of work. I am proud of [Weet-weet]'s skills at sushi-making :D

Can you say I like making (and eating) maki? xD
<img300*0:stuff/z/173923/Something%2520tasty%2520this%2520way%2520comes%2520-%2520uploads/i1370195305_4.jpg>
More of [Weet-weet]'s sushi

Flashy chirashi!
Basically, a chirashi is just a bowl of rice with raw fish (sashimi). Wanted to make it more colorful and added lettuce, carrots, thin omelet and something else I don't identify anymore xD
<img300*0:stuff/z/173923/Something%2520tasty%2520this%2520way%2520comes%2520-%2520uploads/i1370195305_6.jpg>
Another chirashi, this time topped with tempura vegetables (peppers and carrots)
<img300*0:stuff/sushi%2c_maki.jpg>
More of yesterday's dinner: makis with cucumber and tuna, sushi with tuna filling, salmon on top and tied together with stripes of omelet (her idea again)
<img300*0:stuff/z/173923/Something%2520tasty%2520this%2520way%2520comes%2520-%2520uploads/i1370195305_8.jpg>
One of my first attempts at sushi and maki making.

Yet another picture of yesterday's sushi and maki ^^

One evening's idea for the kids I babysit: I made some very thin omelets (like the French crêpes) and filled them with a mixture of cream cheese and chives, then turned them into little bags. The kids were very curious to unwrap them and discover what's inside ^^

When my brain mixes up two Gordon Ramsay recipes, you get spaghetti with champignons and leek in creamy sauce and garlic bread crumbs.
<img300*0:stuff/z/173923/Something%2520tasty%2520this%2520way%2520comes%2520-%2520uploads/i1370195305_2.jpg>
This time, I tried coating the chicken legs in a mixture of cream cheese, aromatic herbs ("herbes de Province", the French call them) and eggs. Still drooling when remembering.
<img300*0:stuff/pasta%2c_sardines.jpg>
This time I got Ramsey's recipe right: pasta, sardines, garlic breadcrumbs and a drop of lemon juice when ready. Just as delicious.

Our first try of tabbouleh: bulgur, tomatoes, olives, cucumber, lots of mint.

Deserts and other sweets

<img:http://elftown.eu/img/drawing/80746_1099418185.jpg>

<img300*0:stuff/desert%2c_strawberry%2c_mousse.jpg>
Strawberry mousse
One of my favourite summertime deserts when I was a kid ^^ Simply whip egg yolks with sugar, mix the strawberries down to a puree and add them in, then put in the fridge. It's simple and delicious :D
<img300*0:stuff/muffins%2c_tea.jpg>
I am not one for sweets, but that evening I felt like some orange muffins would go well with my tea ^^
<img300*0:stuff/z/173923/Something%2520tasty%2520this%2520way%2520comes%2520-%2520uploads/i1370195305_15.jpg>
One of the best ideas [Weet-weet] had: cream cheese mixed with a lot of coconut flakes, and caramelized almonds for topping. It was simply delicious.

<img300*0:stuff/cheesecake.jpg>
Tried a cheesecake recipe that didn't require using an oven. Interesting, but not my favourite.
