TVA was made in 1933 to provide navigation, flood control, electricity generation, fertilizer manufacturing, and economic development in Roane County. It is placed at the Kingston Fossil Plant in Roane County, Tennessee. The fossil plant has always been hazardous to the sensitive. TVA had to build higher smoke stacks to make the smoke further its travel. Unfortunately, it travels not too far to Asheville. Another problem aroused recently, coal ash has fallen into the lake. This made environmentalists’ ears perk. They became concerned for our health, also, the wildlife’s health. The story has been growing and still grows every day. It has already been a few months and they have had Erin Brockovich come and study and talk to the citizens.

The coal ash was scaring citizens with threats of arsenic levels in the water supply. It also was found in fish’s stomachs as far as a mile from the spill site.

As you drive through Kingston you can see the effects of the spill. There was a river boat restaurant that had to be moved and there’s yellow tape all along the shorelines of the park and other areas surrounding the spill site. A few residents had to be moved from damage to their houses and one lady at the beginning of the water safety scare was moved due to being pregnant.
They are still figuring out how to dispose of what has been cleaned, coal ash. They are trying to find a landfill or store it in their own made spot in salt containers. They are still unsure on what to do. They are still testing the water for any evidence of threatening levels of arsenic or anything else that could be hazardous.

There was also another site in a different state that has had the same problem. The city has to clean up the mess with no additional money outside of their budget. Kingston is still a beautiful and historic city. It is a nice city to live in and being a citizen, and I am sure they will continue to make Kingston a nice, safe home.
