The Chronicles of Faelan

Prologue

“…though a plot thickens to destroy a great threat and take control of the nine hells, a child shall be born in light of these dark times…”
One thousand years have passed since the beginning of the demonic war. The demon Kahaehamir and his siblings plot to take over while others fight over the nine thrones of hell, deep beneath the surface of Taneth’Fenteneran. While those living on the surface busy themselves about their various concerns, unaware of events that are taking place beneath them, the war takes an ill turn, opening rifts leading to the upper world. While the demon lord, Fal’Raharajmin fights to maintain his control over seven of the nine thrones of hell, a new war is brewing on the surface world.

While battle is raging, a child is born to a Lanuarian lady, and Moon-elven lord. His eyes glowing like a shining blue flame. It is here Kahaehamir unleashes his most loyal and trusted servant, Naedan, to test this “child of prophecy”.
These are the chronicles of Faelan…
This is his story.
‘Under light of the full moon our salvation lies,
A child born with glowing blue eyes,
A war in the hells beneath the surface will rage,
He’ll save us from destruction in this dark-age,
When the warmth and light of our fires go out,
And we are left in Darkness and doubt,
Now is the hour his brothers await,
When Faelan shall be tested against anger and hate…”

Chapter 1

Nathaniel made his way down the dungeon halls, dark brown eyes catching the slightest reflections of light from torches illuminating grey stone walls. Plate armour clattered as he strode, long black hair vacillating too and fro.
His right hand bore a finely crafted mithril spear which stood taller than he, his left arm was burdened with a cumbersome tower shield. From shoulder to toe he was dressed in thorium plate armour mostly concealed beneath a deep violet tunic and dark blue cloak. His pale face seemed vacant, eyes barely blinking, focused straight ahead of him, their lids dressed in black make up.
At last he stopped, turning back to ensure he wasn’t being followed. Once satisfied he turned to the door beside him which opened a fraction as he reached for the handle. The human jumped as he caught a glimpse of a cat-like eye at the crack in the door.
“You’re late” came a deep voice from behind the wooden door.
“Are you alone?”
“Yes” Nathaniel replied, scuffing his foot along the stone floor.
With that the door opened, the half demon behind allowing the human to pass.
“Ah Nathaniel, I’m glad you could finally make it” A cloaked figure spoke from the end of rectangular table. The hairs on the back of Nathaniel’s neck stood on end as he shifted nervously.
“Kah-Kahaehamir” he managed to blurt out-referring to the hooded figure across the way.
“Forgive my belated arrival my lord, I was…delayed” he said, bowing low.
“No matter, shall we begin?” the human rose and nodded as he took a seat, discarding his shield and spear beside him.
Kahaehamir nodded to the half demon.
“Naedan, when you are ready” The one known as Naedan bolted the wooden door before drawing a dagger from his belt, slicing it into his wrist. The half demon stood by the table, placing his bloodied hand upon the wood. The red liquid pooled from his wrist onto the wood, filling a carving etched into the whole length of the table.
As the red liquid poured he spoke a tongue unfamiliar to Nathaniel, who watched the event in utter silence. When Naedan’s words had ceased, light emerged from the empty seats around the table, creating and outlining the shapes of six humanoid figures placed in a sitting position. Naedan spoke again.
“Through my blood I call the siblings of my lord, hear me, Curion”
Suddenly the light in the first of the six chairs drew into itself, creating a violent breeze as it exploded, the seat now filled; the bulk of a demon’s form sitting in the stone chair, large wings which wrapped around a muscular torso, a bald head shining in the remaining light of the room.
“Hear me Baeylie” The same again, the second seat was filled, the silhouette of a beautiful woman spreading over the table. Her true skin was grey, small; barely noticeable horns arced upwards from her forehead streamy auburn/red hair hung freely from her scalp. The rest her body remained hidden beneath the table.
Naedan continued shouting names, Illithadore, Sslitharae, Fragatorae and Hellmarga.
One after the other, the lights in each seat exploded, each now occupied by a demon or demoness.
Curion-the first of the demons to appear-stood, his height increasing by several feet more than expected. Sharp eyes explored the dim room, catching sight of the human at the end of the table, moving from one figure to the next until finally coming to rest upon Kahaehamir. The larger demon stretched, arcing his back and spreading his gigantic wings out wide for all to see. Each wing must have spread at least six feet, the bulk of his torso now revealed a huge and firm muscular chest, and well formed abdomen. The only part of his body that was clothed was his legs.
Curion’s eyes glazed over as they came down to focus on Kahaehamir once more. The larger demon simply laughed, filling the chamber with his booming voice.
Kahaehamir stood, removing the hood from his head.
“And so…” Curion began, “…at last we stand reunited after ten-thousand years” he continued, his tone deep, his face acrimonious.
“Your temper has not lessened in that time, brother” Kahaehamir said back.
“Why have you chosen now of all times to summon us to such a place?!” The winged demon demanded.
“Your demands will remain without answers, Curion, until you take a seat” Curion’s piercing gaze was withdrawn by the shorter figure’s tone which remained sharp and direct yet calm and quiet.
Curion backed down, folding his wings around his torso again as he took his seat.
“Why do you hide in your mortal shell, brother? T’is such an ugly form of being” Baeylie spoke, her soft tone ringing in Nathaniel’s ears like a siren’s song.
With that being said, Kahaehamir’s body violently doubled over, the bald head of his human form sprouted several barbs, and the cloak covering his back tore as blade like spines grew from his back, neck and elbows.
When his transformation was complete he stood straight; sharp, glowing eyes took the place of regular human eyes. Horns now grew from his forehead, curving upwards towards the ceiling.
The cloak, now torn and mangled was ripped from his back and tossed aside. Nathaniel sat quietly, trembling slightly in his seat as he stared in awe of his master’s transformation.
“Much better” Baelie said, nodding in satisfaction.
“My thanks, dear sister, and my thanks to the rest of you for appearing on such short notice,” Kahaehamir began, stretching back, cracking his neck.
“My brothers, my sisters, and Nathaniel, you are at this time most likely to be wondering why it is you are here, and your questions will be answered eventually. I bid you all welcome to my…temporary home. It has been ten thousand years since our last meeting, and it is with great reluctance I have decided to bring you to my lair. As you all know, a war is raging, Fal’Raharjmin, is fighting to maintain control of the seven thrones of hell he still possesses” Kahaehamir continued.
The others nodded their agreement, even Curion, whose eyes grew fierce.
“Then why have you called ussss here, brother?” Sslitharae hissed.
“I have called you all here because our time has come. While war rages, several rifts have opened across the upper world. Those on the surface know little if anything of the war which is pursued bellow. But they will be made aware soon enough, the eclipse is here.”
“Get to the point, Brother; I haven’t the patience to listen to your ramblings” Curion stood, his eyes narrowing, staring down his long nose at his oldest brother.
“I will ask you again Curion, sit down” Kahaehamir said, his tone growing deeper and more threatening. Curion’s eyes showed fear as he took his seat again.
“It is our time to take control. The nine thrones of the hells now sit vacant, the three lords of the hells are too busy waging war amongst one another, and it is our time to take control. Faj’Raharajmin’s time is at its end, he is no longer the one to rule over the hells”
“Where does the human come into this, Kahaehamir?” Baylaie asked, her tone soft and gentle, ringing in Nathaniel’s ears, her beautiful face moving gently as she spoke.
Nathaniel shifted nervously in his chair as all eyes turned to him.
“Nathaniel here; has an offer I simply could not refuse, and is to be commended for his efforts. I am going to grant him the power of immortality so that he may take rule over one of the nine.”
“Nine of us, nine thrones to control” Fragatorae nodded his agreement. “It sounds a fair exchange”
“Indeed it does, it does tickle your fancy doesn’t it, my younger brother.”
The others exchanged glances, laughing amongst one-another.
“However…” Kahaehamir paused for a moment. The others stopped and looked at him, noting the nervous look on his face. “However, there is one problem”
“What problem?” Hellmargae asked, her eyes filling with suspicion.
“It is my understanding, that a child has been born, a child whose eyes glow bright blue, with a pale tone, born to a lanuarian mother and moon-elven father.”
“So? What is the point of you telling us this, brother? Half breed children are being born more and more common as time goes by” Curion stood again.
“Curion! I am going to ask you one last time, sit down!” Kahaehamir said, his tone growing more and more threatening as the words emerged from his lips. Curion sat again.
“Yes, you are right, half-breed children are born more and more often now-days than ever before. But this half-breed child is much different to that of any other that walks the surface world. This child can and will become a great threat to us”
“What threat can one child pose against an army of immortals? The elves have a limited immortality” Fragatorae spoke, his tone confident.
“Then surely you have not heard the prophecy that was written a millennium ago, by our demon brother, Lahaethasan.
‘Under light of the full moon our salvation lies,
A child born with glowing blue eyes,
A war in the hells beneath the surface will rage,
He’ll save us from destruction in this dark- age,
When the warmth and light of our fires go out,
And we are left in Darkness and doubt,
Now is the hour his brothers await,
When Faelan shall be tested against anger and hate…”

The demon lord paused momentarily, allowing his siblings time to take this in.
“And you believe this child is the child of prophecy, Faelan of Arimathyas?”
“I do not believe, I know, and I know, that the child will not last long on the side of light” He sneered, turning to face his servant, Naedan who stepped forward.
“The time has come my friend”
Naedan nodded and spoke something beneath his breath as he vanished into thin air…
