The Baxter Building 1
The baxter building was nearly as impressive outside as it was in. Tall celings with a fourties art deco designe lended somewhat elegantly into the steral floor, walls and security equiptment. The teleporter was stationed a few feet infront of a guard kiosk. The guard jumped when the teleported ignighted unschedualed. he hesitated before hitting the alarm. Tom and Lyra appeared laided with three young children. The guard took his hadn away from the button. "Welcome to the Baxter Building, do you have an apointment?"
Lyra stepped forward "I'm Dr. Lyra Relman this is Mr. Thomas Burd, we're from the Xavier institute for gifted youngsters. We where hopeing the Reeds where in-" She josteled Waya who had suddenly become fussy from the teleportation. "We brought some little ones for Franklin to play with."
The guard smiled at the fussy youngster and said "One moment, I'll check." He typed a few things in on a keyboard, made a voice varification and scanned his retnas. A door opened from a doorless wall. "There ready for you." He said with a smile.
"Thank you."
Lyra said and started threw the door.
Tom found it a bit strange to be waiting to be buzzed into the building; he was used to walking straight in. He wondered if he should have taken a baby to hold, but Lyra seemed so attatched to them; maybe she was thinking about babies of her own one day... Tom was. "Susan? Richard?" he called out as he followed Lyra through the door, then more silently he said "Johhny? Ben?"
"FRANKLIN PUT THAT DOWN!" Someone shouted and a flash of energy ignighted across the room, somethign stretchy had been sent flying while the beam blasted the wall, right above a very beautiful, very large and very expensive glass window. Thankfuly the blast just missed and susceeded in scorching a purple streak on the wall. The sound of a child's giggeling echoed threw the lab, sounding like bells.
"I got it!" Another voice said and apearing from behind a wall of machenery was Susan Storm-Richards holding her highly intelegent baby boy. She spotted Lyra and Tom "Honey, get over here we have X-Guests." She smiled at them happily and stroce up to them, as if her husband hadn't been blasted across the room. "It's so nice to see you Dr. Relman, Mr. Burd." They'd met and worked together before but Susan had always been one for formalities. Then she noticed the abundance of babies "My goodness." She said peering in on the twins, "Yours?" She asked excitably hoping that the two of them had rekindeled their relationship in the interum.
"OH NO, no no no."
Lyra said with a smile "These are my nephews Jayden and Jaden, they belong to Kari and Jayn. This is little Waya, she's Delaney and Kurt's."
Susan seemed to melt with joy "Tell Del and Kurt I'm happy for them, they'd been trying for so long." Waya had fallen asleep and Susan smoothed out the thick patch of black hair on her head. She turned her attention to the twins "Oh these handsome boys are going to be heartbreakers if they are anything like their father." She tickeled them one at a time, delighting in their laughter. "If you had called we wouldn't have let Franklin play with the plazma cutter."
Reed joined them, his stretchyness from earlier was only just aparent as he came back to his proper form "This is a lovely suprise!" He said honestly as he greeted the youngsters. "Let's go to the play room shall we?" He said and led them away from the lab and down a hall that led to a massive playroom half filled with toys and jungle gyms that where probably a year too old for the kids. the other side of the room was fenced in with bouncy play material and littered with more age appropriate toys. "Tom, that project you helped me with... fantastic. The people of Chile thank you."
"NO shop talk in the play room." Susan reminded her husband and set Franklin in the bouncy play pen portion of the room. Only a few months old he took off crawling like a rocket towards his favorite toy. A lifesized plush version of Ben Grim. Susan took it upon herself to free the twins from their stroler and set them down in the pen. Unable to crawl yet themselves they had somehow learned to use their ability manipulate gravity to follow Franklin and headed for the plushy Ben. So why the unschedualed visit?" Susan asked Lyra as she led her to a basinet she could lay Waya in.
"We have a FoH demonstration on the front lawn."
Lyra informed them "They started arriving this afternoon. We thought it was best to evacuate the little ones before it escilated."
"Those kinds of demonstrations have a tendency to do that." Susan said "Reed and I can watch the kids, Ben and Jhonny should be back any second. They'd be happy to go with you, Ben's been grumbeling about not seeing any action lately."
"Well if you can't have the Hulk"
Tom chuckled under his breath as he encouraged Waya to go play with the twins and Franklin; knowing her mother however he was worried she may do something drastic... like remove the plush toy's head. He straightened up and moved over to Richard on the pretense of helping tidy up the plasma cutter that Franklin had been playing with earlier, but his real goal was to talk to Richard. "Listen... not everything I've done with you guys is allowed to be known by Lyra, or any other x-man..." He glanced over his shoulder and smiled gently "She doesn't know what I've been doing... yet. We'd be happy to have any help you can give to keep these nutters off."
Reed stuck his finger nmext to his nose and winked at Tom with a nod. He wouldn't mention anything else. "Susan and I will stay here and watch the kids, Ben and Jhonny should be back soon. Besides, Mutates defending mutants would be good for publicity. They'd be glad to help.
"That's Reed for you," Susan said "Always thinking about good publicity." She smiled as she noticed Franklin and the twins building what looked like a model of their building.
"I'd never thought about that."
Lyra said "That would be really good for publicity."
"Publicity, good or not, doesn't quite matter compared to the building coming down though. Maybe we should head back before Jhonny and Ben get here to make sure everyone's still calm, they can join us when they arrive?"
Tom asked as his gaze switched from the children to the adults to the large windows which let them see out into the street below. "Sometimes I wonder how people like you guys and Tony manage to get away with having powers when we have these blood hounds on our tail every other day... I mean millionares, well known and still
liked."
"That is a good idea."
Lyra said and made her goodbyes to the children.
"We may never know why some eople do the things they do." Reed said placing a hand on Tom's shoulder. "We'll send Ben and Jhonny when they get here. Go, protect your school."
Susan gave Lyra a hug "Be careful, I wouldn't do anything rash until they made the first move."
"Don't worry, we wont."
Lyra told her and headed back to the teleporter.
"We're used to dealing with them by now, just wanted to get the kids out of the way. Thanks for the help though"
Tom said cheerfully, giving Sue a small hug goodbye and shaking Richard's hand before walking off with Lyra to the teleporter.
blah blah blah they where gone.
.
The jet landed in the docking bay and everyone took the transport to the play room where they found Reed curled up in the massive play pen curled elastically around four snoozing children. Susan too had taken advantage of nap time and was getting a few winks reclined in a rocking chair.
Kari took a deep breath when she saw her little boys all safe and sound. It's not that she doubted the 4 team, but she just missed them too much.
Del didn't waste any time climbing into the massive playpen and begin extracting Waya from the protective bonds of Mr. Fantastic. She did her best not to wake him
"Thank you for taking care of them."
Kari said. "I'm glad everything is back in it's place and time. Finally... 'normal' again."
Susan had woken up "It was no trouble." She said rubbing her eyes "They've been perfect little angels. But the twins did have Reed pinned to the ceiling for a bit, it was quite amusing."
Del had been able to free Waya but trying to get the twins would defiantly wake up Reed. She stepped over the play pen wall, careful not to wake Waya up.
"Really? Goodness, I'm sorry....we still haven't quite figured out there abilities just yet."
Kari explained.
Kurt. walked up to his wife and gently stroked Waya's head. He smiled softly, still amazed at the little girl.
"You might have a pair of telekinetics on your hands." Susan said untwirling Reed from around the two boys so she could properly give them back to their mother and father.
"Awe, they didn;t set anything on fire?" Jayn asked slightly bummed that his boys hadn;t taken after their father.
"Don't worry, perhaps they will grow into it later?"
Kari suggested, rubbing Jayn's back with a gentle hand.
"I think we should get these guys home."
Del said lightly swing Waya "They've had a long day and so have we. Johnny and Ben can fill you in on all the fun we had."
"Hopefully the excitement will be all done when we get back too. I'd hate to bring her home and have it all start back up again."
Kurt told Del quietly.
Kari took one twin while Jayn took the other. She tried her best not to wake him.
They all said their goodbyes before returning threw Reed's teleportation device and back to the school. The main entrance hall
