This is where people with the government go.
Jace:
Jace's eye twitched. He was a soldier in charge of collecting people to aid the government in the war against...er..
.he wasn't sure how to phrase it. Cannibals didn't quite fit, seeing as not everyone they were fighting against was eating their own kind... Heck! Not all of them were even eating humankind. But that's beside the point. He was a fighter. A warrior. Born and raised. And yet here he was. Doing paperwork. And it wasn't even his! He grunted to himself as he picked up the first folder in the foot-high pile. "...That's probably what I get for asking Anabell if she wants any help."
"Jace what are you doing? Isn't that Anabell's paperwork?" A soldier asked peeking in through the door way.
Jace's nose scrunched and his lips twitched into a very primal-looking snarl. "Didn't you have a prisoner to guard or gun to polish or something?"
"Uhhh r-right sor..sorry." The soldier said walking of has fast as he can without running.
Jace gave another soft grunt that sounded faintly like a cross between a snort and a woof before settling back down to the paperwork. What the flip was a evolutionary technition and why the heck was one filing for transfer anyways? Where would he go?!
"Hey you done or is there still some paperwork?" Anabell asked walking in rubbing her head with one hand and reaching out the other to collact the paperwork.
"Ana!" Jace's eyes lit up and a crooked grin stretched across his face before it deflated as her words sunk in. "...Well, I got all those reports signed and most of those copies you needed, but there's a lot of stuff that I can't make heads or tails of." His eyebrows furrowed a little as he gave Anabell a curious, almost childish look. "What's with this evolutionary genetics and transdimentional junk about anyways?"
"Oh don't worry about it, I'll take care of it," She replied giving him a little smile. "Thanks for the...help," she said messing up his hair a little as she sat down on the desk.
Jace leaned into her hand a little and almost whimpered when she took it away before he caught himself. He cleared his throat. "Is...there anything else I can do? Anything at all?" Jace offered, already forgetting his earlier epiphany.
"You like doing work a bit tooo much."Anabell said eyeing him as if to see if he was feeling okay."Well if you could go to the nature lab and grab some fruit that would be very helpful."She said as she started looking over some of the paperwork.
"Right!" With an enthusiastic nod the werewolf practically ran into the hallway before pausing at the door and looking back at Anabell with that crooked grin. "I'll be right back!"
And with that, he started towards the nature lab with firm, determined footsteps. With his head held high and his face set in its usual "interrupt me at your own risk" expression, nobody could tell that he was doing somersaults in his head.
The nature lab was in the middle of maze called the Center Facility. Even people who had worked at the facility for years tend to get lost.
Jace followed the scent of fresh air, sugar, and fertalizer--getting lost once or twice, but never long enough to cause more than a minute's delay. Sometimes, Jace smirked to himself, being a werewolf can sure come in handy...
The doors to the nature lab where big like just about every door in the facility. Jace could hear people talking already.
Jace practically slammed open the doors to let them know he was there before walking calmly into the room and waiting for them to finish their conversation.
"What do you need Jace?" One of the workers asked
"Fruit." Jace's nose scrunched as he resisted the urge to sneeze. "None of that overripe stuff in the baskets, though."
"Alright" The worker said walking to some other workers who were picking ripe fruit. "Put some of that fruit in this basket please." "Hey Jace doesn't Anabell usually get the fruit?" A kid asked. He was probably 19 with red short hair and a joker's grin.
Jace gave the teenager a predatory grin, allowing himself to look as wolfish as possible without the snout and fur. "Shouldn't you be doing your own job instead of concerning yourself with others?"
"Hehe I'm on break and I'm just asking......I see your her doggie!!" He said with a grin as a gasp broke though the room. The worker that was bringing the fruit nearly dropped the basket.
For half a moment Jace twitched, but he never let the grin falter from his face. "Well better than being a loud-mouthed brat such as yourself, I suppose. Eh, pup?" The werewolf ruffled the kid's hair as though he was a toddler and scooped up the basket, thanking the other workers as he walked out the door a little faster than usual, obviously trying to avoid losing his temper.
He heard foot steps. "Is that the fruit Anabell asked for?" A soldier asked.
Jace's head snapped towards the soldier, his grin having finally been allowed to twist into a dangerous sneer. "What about it?"
"Well...ha...I'm supposted to take it to the loading truck. "The soldier said shrinking in place.
Jace shut his eyes, letting out a slow exhale that sounded suspiciously like a growl before shoving the basket in the soldier's arms. "Take it."
"Thank you. Oh and Anabell told me to inform you that she was sent to get new soldiers," the soldier said heading off.
Jace let out a low growl that rumbled all throughout the corridors of the facility and stormed off towards his office. Everything's going against me today...
"Hey Jace!"David(A trainee that Jace had to deal with a few times)said running over to talk to him.
Jace stopped in his tracks to let David catch up, not bothering to glance at him or acknowledge him in any other way.
"You okay?" David asked with a little worry in his voice.
"No more or less than usual." Jace shrugged, already seeming a lot calmer than when he left the nature lab.
"I'm glad to hear that. Are you doing anything?" David seem excited.
"Apparently not." Jace finally gave David a curious glance. "Someone put expresso in your mug this morning or what?"
"No I dont like coffee. Oh, but if your not doing anything why not come with me to get some soldiers?" David asked. By get soldiers he meant get people that are unhuman but can control themself, even if they don't want to come.
"...Lay off the soda for a week or so. Maybe anything with sugar." Jace half muttered to himself before the question processed. "Huh? Oh. Sure. Why not."
"Okay lets go then!! Oh wait you should get packed." David said smiling. "I'll meet you at the front gate."
Jace nodded an acknowledgement before heading to his quarters. He packed lightly with a single suitcase and put on his shape-shifting necklace as he walked out the door.
It was a cold night snow lightly falling. David was wearing a coat and jacket. "It will probably be a week long trip maybe longer." He said looking at a map.
"What region are we heading to?" Jace glanced at the map over David's shoulder.
"The fourth region, in District twelve. It's small so most people overlook it, perfect for people to hide from the government." David said pointing out an area on the map.
Jace winced at the mention of District twelve. "Sounds a bit close to where the Blood Games fiasco went down. They might not be very cooperative..."
"There's always something to ruin a easy day right?" He said heading to the van they where going to take.
"Yeah. Sure. Easy." Jace rolled his eyes as his body became slimmer and his hair grew darker.
David got into the van. "Haha come on, lighten up!" David said reaching the keys out to Jace.
Jace took the keys, muttering something that sounded like "Maybe later..." before he sat in the drivers seat and started the van.
It took five hours before they got there, David did most the talking. "All right we're here!" David said happily.
Jace gave David a look that clearly expressed what he thought of David being happy about being in District twelve before pulling the keys out of the ignition.
There were people walking around, none of them seemed too friendly toward outsiders.
Jace glared out the window and seethed. "I'm tellin' you, David, if one of these morons tries to skin me alive again I'll rip open their freakin' ribcage."
"Uhhh....calm down I have my gun, we will just act like we belong here. Besides who knows how many people here can help us in *whisper* the war." David opened his door and gave Jace a quick smile.
Jace snarled threateningly at his own door before rushing out of the van and slamming it shut. If these people weren't planning to be friendly, why should he?
David sighed before walking into town more. Jace could tell that David was ready for someone to try something.
Jace wasn't sure whether to smirk or scowl. Least he's finally learning... Last thing we need is to get caught off guard here of all places.
Anabell:
Anabell's boots thumped against the tile floor the night had just begun and already she was in a bad mood. Nothing was going right tonight.
Heavy boots could be heard approaching Anabell from the direction she was heading.
She looked up from the floor ready for the bad news she figured was coming, after all it would just top off this already awful night.
A male soldier a rank above Anabell came into view and stopped in front of her, "Good evening, done with all of your paperwork already?" He asked with a raise brow.
"I was just about to finish up with that Sir, there where some unexpected new trainees I had to take care of." Anabell said standing at attention.
"Ah yes that does come first, well then, off you go then." The soldier said with a smile knowing full well she probably made her little puppy dog do her paper work again.
"Sh*** I probably should go check on the paperwork (wich is to say I hope Jace is done with my paperwork)."she thought as she headed toward her office.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~***~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Jace likes doing work a bit to much. Ughh I hate paper work!" She thought as she looked over the paper work.
Chasa:
Alexander/Jace/david:
Jace parked the van in its usual spot between a few shrubs to the side of the facility's front entrance. "Home sweet home..." Jace murmured as he took the keys of the ignition before turning and abruptly pinching David's cheek.
David smiled. "Don't worry honey I'm awake....pffft."
Alex chuckled from the back seat, "Does he do this a lot?"
"From time to time," David replied as he unbuckled.
There was a bark of laughter as Jace opened the driver side door. "For the first few months I knew this pup," he jerked his thumb in David's direction, "he had a bruise the size of a baseball on his cheek 'cause the ol' lady in Research wouldn't stop fawning over 'how adorable he'd be' with her granddaughter! I'm just keeping the tradition alive~"
"Jeez, is there anyone I should avoid here?" Alex asked looking nervous as he unbuckled his seat belt and opened his door.
"Well, Batty ol' Betty's got six grandkids, so unless you want your face to go numb..." Jace snickered a little, "but aside from the occasional moron, you'll be safe if you keep your nose clean."
"Oh and Annabell when she has had a bad day." David said and gave Jace a quick smile before opening his door.
"Ok, duly noted. So I'm guessing Annabell is important?" Alex said with a chuckle as he got out. A small square photo fell out of a pocket on his bag and floated to the ground as he got out, which he didn't notice.
Jace chuckled softly and his wolfish grin melted a little into a genuinly warm smile. "Very..." He suddenly cleared his throat. "She keeps this place running. Nobody hiccups without her knowing about it."
David smiled knowingly. "Huh?" he reached down and picked up the picture. "That man looks kinda like Jace." David whispered to himself and looked at Jace.
Alex looked at the picture in David's hand over his shoulder, "Huh, that's mine, did that fall out of my bag? I guess I must not have zipped the pocket up." He said holding his hand out for the picture.
"Hey!" Jace called from the other side of the van. "Let's pick up the pace! The sooner we get to the clerks, the faster we'll get the paperwork over with!" As he started to head for the main entrance, Jace's shoulders broadened and his hair became a lighter color once more.
Alex blinked as Jace's appearance changed, "Wha? How'd he do that?" He asked David pointing at Jace shocked.
"He has another form too, Alex if you don't mind my asking who is this man?" David asked pointing at Alex's father.
"Huh? Oh, that's my dad and the woman is my mom." Alex said without looking away from Jace. 'How does he do that?' He wondered to himself.
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?" David asked now looking at Jace too.
Jace turned to face them for the first time since he shifted with a snarl, still not paying attention to their conversation. "Did you not hear me? I'd like to get the boring part over with already so we can train! Maybe sometime this year?"
"You know you could wait a bit, besides I'm asking questions." David called to him.
Alex chuckled at David and Jace's exchange, "I don't think I have any siblings, well not that I'm aware of anyways. But who knows?" He said with a shrug.
"You guys look very happy." David said smiling.
"Yeah, it was the year before they died, I was three." Alex said looking at the picture with a smile.
Jace scowled to himself. Now was not the time for all this sentimentality. He stalked over to the teenagers to tell them such when he caught a glance at the photograph. "...Julian."
"H-How do you know my dad?" Alex asked shocked as he looked up at Jace.
'I thought Jace looked to much like Alex's dad, looks like my theory was right.' David thought as he watched them. "Well I'm going inside." He said.
Jace tapped a finger on the man's face in the picture. "Julian Thorn. 'Bout the only werewolf I've ever known to take the phrase 'lone wolf' seriously." He shot Alex a glance. "'Though, that explains what that scent was earlier..."
"You smelt something too?" Alex asked curiously as he looked up at Jace and realized he kind of looked like his dad Julian.
"Smelled something similar all the time back before my dad took off." Jace gave Alex a meaningful look. "And then again 'bout three years ago when I ran into our sister."
"Sister?!" Alex said as he looked at Jace totally shocked as the news he had siblings sunk in.
Jace shrugged before continuing. "Half-sister, I guess. The ol' man never stuck around past the oldest's fifth birthday, no matter how many pups he ended up with in each family..." He trailed off as he turned and began to walk towards the entrance at a leisurely pace.
'I wonder how many kids he may have had, is it just the three of us or could there be more?' Alex thought to himself as he followed Jace absentmindedly.
David was waiting by the entrance for them.
Stopping for half a second, Jace whispered something in David's ear before walking into the building ahead of the other two: "Another third-gen."
David wrote that down and followed Jace.
Alex wasn't paying attention, he looked up just as David wrote something down, 'I wonder what he wrote down? he wondered with a raised brow.
Jace came to a sudden stop and turned on his heel to face the other two. "First, Betty's gotta check up on ya to make sure you're in prime fighting condition. When she's done, David will take you to the clerks to fill out some info. Then we'll get you settled in and ya start training. Understood?"
Alex stopped and nodded, "Yeah, I got it."
The wolfish grin made a triumphant return to Jace's features. "Good. Show him the way." He nodded to David before heading off to write up his retrieval report.
"WAIT I HAVE THING TO DO TOO!!" David said he didn't notice that he was rubbing his cheek.
Jace's eyebrow twitched at the interruption. He spun on his heel and gave David the intense stare he used whenever he was getting impatient as he waited for the explanation.
"You know Batt..Betty wont let us leave we're too adorable." David said.
Jace contemplated this for a moment. It was true that once Betty got it in her head that someone would fit nicely into her family, they'd be detained until a senior officer managed to find the time to drag them off... David was still a pup, but Jace could be considered a senior officer. "Then you get the paperwork started."
"Okay." David said going off.
"I'd swear he was just trying to get out of getting pinched, again..." Jace mused to himself before addressing Alex. "Ready?"
Alex nodded, "Yeah, I'm ready."
Jace nodded in approval before starting down the hallway again. It was apparent to anyone who bothered to watch that the werewolf seemed tenser the deeper he went into the facility.
Alex followed Jace, he saw how tense he was getting, "Are you ok?"
Jace smelled Annabell's father coming from behind.
Without warning, Jace grabbed Alex by the arm and pulled him over to the wall, standing next to him at attention as the older man walked by. "Sir." He nodded in respect.
He smiled "Aw Jace! Who's this with you?" He asked turning to Alex.
"New recruit, sir. He's got plenty of potential, if you ask me, but we gotta get him through the check-ups and filing, first." Jace let his expression relax a little but kept his military stance.
"Good to hear, welcome!" He said smiling at Alex.
"Thank you sir." Alex said with a friendly smile.
He turned back to Jace.*sigh*"You wouldn't happen to know where Annabells run off to would you?"
Jace blinked. "I was told that she went on a recruitment mission herself. It was before I went off, but..." Jace glanced at Alex, "this mission was considerably shorter than most. Pup couldn't have stood out more if he painted himself orange in the middle of the woods."
"Hahaha I see so she forgot to fill out the paperwork and turn it in. Well have a good day... Oh and make sure Betty goes light on him." He said nodding at Alex before heading off.
Alex's eye twitched at the word 'pup' and he gave Jace a death glare, he really hated that word.
Jace ignored Alex's glare but his jaw twitched to a point that made it obvious he was grinding his teeth at the mention of the paperwork. "Yes, sir."
Once Anabell's father was out of sight he released his grip on Alex's arm and continued his trek towards the labs.
Alex raised an eyebrow, but said nothing as he followed Jace.
It didn't take long to get to Betty's.
When they reached the door to the research and medical labs, Jace paused and gave Alex a measuring look, as though reconsidering something. "...Nevermind." He shoved open the doors.
Alex raised an eyebrow in confusion, 'What was he going to say?' He wondered as Jace shoved the doors open.
"Awww Jacie! It's been a while... Oh, and who's this?!!" Betty asked looking at Alex she was completely over joyed.
Alex stayed behind Jace afraid Betty might pounce on him and pinch his cheeks at any moment, he smiled slightly.
Jace chuckled warmly. "He's joining up. I figured you wouldn't mind doing the check-up yourself. The other docs can get a little too intense with the new pups..."
"Awww he is such a cutie I would be glad to!" She said then went over to one of the tables. "Take a seat please!"
Alex growled at the word 'pup' and shot a death glare at Jace as he hesitantly walked over to where Betty was and sat down.
Jace just smirked at Alex in response to the growl. "Thanks Betty. You don't mind if I sit in, do ya? He's sorta my responsibility..."
"Go ahead! Now let's have a look." Betty said look at Alex with a gleam in her eyes.
Jace noticed the gleam and was suddenly beside Alex. "The thing is, Betty, this one's a strong fighter. Saw him in action myself. I guess you could say it runs in the family..." A subtle reminder. "So I'd appreciate he remain in top form." He raised a nearly accusing eyebrow at the elderly woman. "Stress-free, preferably."
Alex blinked and looked from Betty to Jace obviously missing something which kind of made him nervous.
"Awwww okay," she grinned and looked at Alex. "Well I still think he would make a good addition to the family."
"Thanks, Betty." Jace visibly relaxed and grinned at her before going to sit down.
She began the standard check up.
Alex sighed, 'So that's what it was, she wanted to add me to her family.' He thought to himself rolling his eyes.
"We'll come back for the bloodwork and vaccinations later, if you don't mind, Betty. I'd like to get his training started before you make a pincushion outta him." Jace added as an afterthought. "By the time you were done with the other pup, his first time, he was too sore to move, let alone block a punch..."
"Alright...but be back soon!" Betty said patting Alex on the shoulder.
"Don't worry, he will be." Jace smirked.
Alex gave Jace a look as he stood up, 'What's that smirk for?' he wondered.
"C'mon." Jace said to Alex. "Let's go get that paperwork done before the clerks through a fit."
"Alright, I'm coming." Alex said with a nod.
As they went into the hall Jace could smell the stupid brat from the nature lab.
Jace let out a low, feral-sounding snarl before setting his face into it's usual "don't mess with me" expression.
Alex blinked, 'What's with him?' He wondered as he saw his expression.
"Hey I was just joking earlier no hard feeling right?" The kid said smiling.
Jace let out a low grunt and kept walking as if nobody was there.
Alex blinked but said nothing as he followed Jace, thinking it best to not stop and talk to the kid.
As they got to the paper work area they heard David say: "Come on!! I've filled this dang paperwork out three times!!"
"Patience, pup!" Jace replied. "Ya can't fill out any of the private information or give the signature without this one anyways." He jerked a thumb at Alex.
"Yeah I know but what I can fill out they keep losing." David said as two girls handling the paperwork started giggling.
Jace raised an eyebrow at the two girls before ruffling David's hair with a chuckle. "Yeah. Sure. 'Losing'."
'Losing', yeah right. They probably have a thing for him and want him to stay longer. Alex thought to himself with a chuckle as he looked at the two girls and smirk knowingly.
"Well I hope they don't lose your paperwork." David said with a tired smile.
Jace rolled his eyes as he approached the two girls. "We need some application and personal information forms for a new recruit." His grin stayed in place but his eyes turned cold. "And we're in a bit of a rush, if you don't mind."
"Right away sir!" They said going over to a desk and opening a drawer. "Here you go." She said handing the paperwork over to him.
Satisfied, Jace gave them a nod before turning and dumping the pile in Alex's arms. "Need a pen, pup?"
Alex's eye twitched at the word 'pup' and he growled a little, but he decided it was futile to say anything since Jace kept calling him pup, "No thanks, I have one in my bag." He said looking at the papers in his arms. 'Jeez, do I really need to fill all of this out?'
"Umm it isn't as hard as it looks." One of the twins said her cheeks were turning red as she went over to the desk with her sister.
Alex looked at the girl who spoke, "This is the first time I've filled out paper work, it's just new for me." He said with a friendly smile.
"Oh I see." She said smiling her cheeks were completely blushing now.
Alex blinked, 'Is she blushing?' He thought to himself as he began filling out paper work. "Are you alright?" He asked.
"I'm fine." The girl said still blushing. "Yeah she's just love struck!" The other said loving as she was tackled by her embarrassed sister.
"Huh? Love struck? By who?" Alex said kind of oblivious.
Jace let out a bark of laughter at Alex's question and clapped David on the back. "This pup's even greener than you!"
Alex blinked obliviously, "Huh? What? I'm so confused." He said with a sigh as he put his head down on the desk.
David started laughing then whispered to Jace. "He'll be a lady killer some day."
Jace snickered. "Maybe when the pup learns the difference between a flirt and a fever..." He cleared his throat. "It's simple." He sat next between the two teenagers. "Ya just fill out personal information like age, weight, species... Ah, here's the medical form. This one needs your allergies and family history. Your retrieval officer-" Jace gestured towards David. "-takes care of the recruitment details. Or he would've by now..." Jace gave the girls at the desk a mild glare.
"Well I was saying I was confused about the greener than you part you said to David, not the paper work, but thanks for explaining anyways." Alex said as he followed Jace's gaze over to the girls.
"Don't worry we'll teach you all about it later."David said snickering.
"If you say so." Alex said with shrug still a little confused as he went back to his paper work.
One of the twins peeked up from behind the desk.
Alex having the feeling of being watched looked up from his paper work and over at the desk.
He noticed the girl drop down.
Alex blinked in confusion, 'What was that about?' He wondered to himself with a raised eyebrow as he turned back to paper work.
David patted Alex on the shoulder. "You'll understand when your older." He snickered.
"I'm already sixteen, how much longer do I have to wait?" Alex asked sarcastically rolling his eyes as he went back to the paper work.
Jace chuckled a little. "You 'bout done, yet, pup?"
"Almost, this is the last page." Alex said with a smile as he wrote.
One of the twins popped up. "I can take the paperwork if your done." She said with a smile.
Alex looked over at the twin and stood up having completed his paper work, "Ok, sure." He said with a smile as he walked over to the desk to give her the paper work.
"I don't know, will it get lost again?" David asked handing over the paperwork.
Alex chuckled, "I hope not." He said with a wink at the girl.
"It won't." Jace said, giving the twins his patented "wrap it up, already!" look.
The pig-tailed twin was too busy blushing and looking at Alex to see the look Jace gave. "Okay, we'll take care of the rest!" The other twin said with a wink.
'She is kind of cute.' Alex thought to himself his face turning slightly red as she stared at him. Huh? My face feels kind of hot. Oh no, am I blushing?!' He thought shocked covering his face as he looked away from the pig-tailed twin his face still red. 'I hope she didn't notice.' He thought his face getting a bit redder.
David chuckled and looked over at Jace with a smirk, as the twin hid her blushing face too.
Jace smirked back at David before putting a hand on Alex's shoulder. "C'mon, pup. You can flirt some more after we get you settled in."
Jace's words only made Alex's face redder, "K-Knock it off."
