Scroll 04: A Chance Encounter
Naoko darted forward as she always did during her lunch break. She was sure to make it home in time to grab whatever her mother had made on her lunch break home from work and be off again to school. Her tawny hair swam through the breeze as her black and red skirt fluttered and danced from the wind as she moved. Subconsciously she began to play with the intriguing medallion that her grandmother had given her out of the blue the day before. She continued running at her quick pace, distracting her thoughts from school with the piece of jewelry that was pitter-pattering against her bare flesh as she run.
Suddenly her mind was filled with surprise and realization that she was lying on the ground and feeling a little pain from the crash. She sat up and rubbed her back for a moment, "What happened?"
"I'm very sorry...I-" the young man stopped when he saw her.
His accent... Naoko blushed.
His snowy skin was puce instantly and he couldn't help but smirk. He stared at Naoko in complete silence for about a minute before he shook himself out of the daze. He was quickly on his feet again and offering her a hand.
Naoko was staring up at him, embarrassed and attracted to the stranger. He was her type of guy from appearance: fair hair, eyes, and skin; tall; toned; and a deep, attractive voice topped off with an accent. He was clad in an older-looking white T-shirt, dark jeans, black tennis shoes and a pair of black greaves. His hair fell at his neck at its longest and at the bottom of his nose at its shortest. His smile was boyish and cute but it seemed to suit him.
When she managed to shake herself out of the infatuated gaze she took his hand only to be surprised by his strength, "I'm sorry," Naoko found herself smiling and blushing again as she met his icy eyes.
"Really, it was my fault. Are you hurt?" he asked.
"Just a little bit of pain on impact, but with a few aspirin I should be fine," Naoko replied.
"Please, let me make my klutziness and rudeness up to you, miss..." he trailed his thought.
"Naoko," she filled in.
"Vicente," he replied with his boyish smile. "By the looks of it, you should be in school," he motioned toward her uniform.
"Lunch break," Naoko replied. "Ah, that reminds me...I'm gonna be late getting back to school again. Oh, well."
"Let me walk you..." Vicente offered, trying to find a reason to talk to her again.
"Alright," Naoko agreed. She kept glancing over at him, Why can't I stop staring at him? Damn his good looks...
Vicente laughed, "What?"
"I...it's nothing..." Naoko replied.
"Please tell me. I mean you keep glancing over here like I can't see you staring at me."
Naoko's cheeks turned a deeper shade of red, I can't believe he noticed that!, "You have beautiful eyes..."
Vicente nodded, "Really? I prefer Deep green personally."
Naoko mused, That's my eye color, "I think you can pull off the green. The color suits your complexion and hair color."
"I meant on you," Vicente replied. He blushed a little after he said that and turned to her, "You likewise have stunning eyes."
Naoko could feel the heat from the blood that colored her cheeks, "Thank you." She glanced down at her hand that was still in his from when he helped her to her feet.
Vicente followed her gaze down to their adjoined hands, “Is something the matter, Naoko?"
"N-nothing at all," Naoko replied. Vicente laughed and smiled. "You look as if you should still be in school, too," Naoko quibbled the conversation.
"I'm looking for a private school to begin at for tomorrow since I'm learning the town layout today," Vicente replied. He shot her a glance as if to ask her a question psychically, but said nothing further.
"Mountain View High is nice," Naoko suggested without missing a beat.
"Your high school I presume?" Vicente asked.
Naoko nodded, "Yes, and it's a good place to get an education."
"Or you might have ulterior motives for suggesting that high school to me," Vicente added.
"I might," Naoko replied playfully. She sighed when they reached her family's house and looked up at him with disappointment.
"Don't worry..." Vicente turned to her. "You can hold my hand for as long as you want," he teased.
Naoko bit her lower lip and tried not to blush, "Do you want to come inside, Vicente?"
"I'm not sure if I should," he replied simply. "I lose track of time easily...but I'll take a rain check."
Naoko smiled, "It's a standing invitation."
"If you're alright from here...I'll be seeing you," Vicente whispered.
Naoko nodded and ogled over him as he walked down the street, back tracking the way they walked, "Wow...he's so alluring."
