So what is it that I think is so wrong about religion? We'll see if I ever get anything coherent put down.
A long time ago, my dad told me that Christianity was created as means of controlling normal people. That made more sense to me than anything else told about religion. It's not (or is not supposed to be) that way in the world of today, but as the USA proves us, I guess it's not true.
Finland has a state church, and yet the whole country is very secular (though, yeah, Lutherism (?) is the norm and all). Religion is supposed to be a personal matter.
The worst thing about religion is most likely that idiots and sometimes even pretty smart people use it to justify their own (too often faulty and poorly thought) opinions and preferences.
Why do some people have to support a religion that
1) makes people unequal when it comes to a thing so many people consider the most important thing in life (love and marriage)
2) thinks killing people is okay except for when it doesn't really matter (abortion and for stars' sake, contraception and stem cell research)
3) does not tolerate any differences (I'm not even going to start here)
4) (more coming if I bother to return to the subject. feel free to suggest.)
What's wrong with some religious people?
1) They take their holy texts too seriously.
2) They only use the parts of the religion that justify their opinions and deeds.
3) They try to interpret it.
4) They refuse to realize that most of the holy text is hopelessly outdated anyway.
