2013-04-17 [Duredhel]: Uhh... :O I'm confused by the post XD. I though Caleb's power made people trust him, right now it seems to be playing more like mind control or a jedi mind trick. I mean... I would get the guy wanting to do something to help Caleb if there was no reservation, but it seemed like Caleb somehow manipulated his memory (since he mentioned seeing Caleb's name in the list). Can I tweak it so the post doesn't give Caleb a new power? XD

2013-04-17 [The Black Goat]: It wasnt meant to give him a new power, the human mind is a very confused thing, you can make yourself believe anything, our memories are very distorted and easily manipulated, all it takes is a suggestion that you remember something you dont. Since calebs power is to make people trust him almost completely, this guy believed that caleb had a reservation, and if caleb had a reservation it had to have been in the system, there for he had to have seen it, and now that he thinks about it hes sure he did see that name xP one of my hobbys is reading about stuff like that. I can probably find the study if youd like, its pretty neat

2013-04-17 [Duredhel]: There's two trains of thought, operant conditioning, which is largely pseudoscience, and false memory manifestation. Both, however, require an external input to 'implant' the new memory or tweak existing ones, the subject does not generate the new memory on its own. If you read any reputable studies on memory formation (ie. Loftus & Palmer) you can see how it works. You need a situation which a) cannot be easily estimated (car speed in their first experiment) or happened long enough for the memory to appear vague, and b) An external input (verb variation in first experiment, interview in the second) to feed the subject the tweaked memory. The more 'memorable' or out-of-the-norm the new memory is, the more likely the subject is to reject it.

The fact he trusts Caleb won't make him form a new memory. If Caleb were to say, for example, "I'm sure I made the reservation, maybe the system is bust?" the guy might think, 'this guy seems trustworthy, I bet he DID make one and the sytem crapped out cuz that's what computers do.', THAT would be the new memory, the system never displayed the reservation because its crap. Not; 'suddenly I remember reading this thing which I denied 15 seconds ago.', insistence on a denied fact tends to have the opposite reaction to a memory implant; confirmation bias. That was mostly the tweak I wanted to make :>.
