sits on the shelf


then you look up at me
a scintillating gaze
sees empty wanting to be filled


a song written
waits for a voice


eyebrows slanted up and inward
eyes wide and glossy
suddenly look down
at fingertips painted
chipping away like so much self-esteem


sit next to you
watching.
world flies by at 70 miles per hour
we have all the time in the world
move to hold your hand
and it all sits still
no time to kill
and everything is perfect
in this moment
