Deadly Night Shade

The Struggle

The warlock stood directly across from Shade. He was staring in the mirror, clutching the edge of the countertop in the bathroom. He tightened the towel around his waist and stared into the eyes of the demon that was fighting to possess his body.

“What do you want?” the warlock asked, smirking.

It was almost shocking at first to hear the voice of the man playing the evil part of his conscience. It was incredibly surprising to see the warlock in the mirror standing in a different pose than he himself was standing.

“Leave me alone,” Shade spat, glaring at the demon.

The warlock laughed, “No, you wanted power, you have to deal with the consequences. I’m the consequence this time.”

Shade growled, “Then stop telling me to kill Windfire!”

“Ah, that’s the pretty white witch’s name,” the warlock licked his lips.

“That’s her name, and you have no reason to kill her,” Shade replied, glaring at the darker reflection.

“She’s a white witch and I’m a black witch. We hate each other and there is no middle ground,” the warlock replied.

“But she loves me,” Shade cried as he ran his fingers through his wet black hair, trying to reason with the demon.

“You love her and I hate her,” the warlock said, sounding bored with the discussion.

“You have no reason to hate her, she wants to help us,” Shade muttered.

“You take this body near her and I’ll take over and kill her,” the warlock threatened.

“No, you won’t!” Shade snarled as he threw his hand at the mirror. He shook his hand franticly when the pain of the impact and the shards from the mirror hit him.

“You’re so stupid to think you could control black magic,” the warlock laughed again.

“You’re stupid enough to think I won’t fight for control of my body and mind,” Shade retorted.

“You might for now, but what about later as you age?”

“You’ll never control me,” Shade snarled as he picked the shards from the mirror out of his knuckles, dropping them into the sink.

“We shall see,” the warlock said with a smirk.
