'Instantaneus Communication...'
Its rare that I can be alone, relax and just be me.
Instantaneous communication, you never can be free.
Pressure pushing inwards, bills, delays, my job.
All rob me of my peaceful place, make me want to sob.
Yet when I strike out, angry, at anyone who's close.
The people I rely on, call me sullen, dark, morose.
Such eternal pressure, it drives me up the wall,
The speed at which we live now, technologies beck and call.
I've a pager for my workplace, a mobile radio phone.
A 'landline' in my office, another one at home.
Constantly bombarded by TV and Internet...
'Lose 16 pounds this weekend!', 'Own a NEW Corvette'.
Be a better man in just 10 days', 'The lover deep inside'
'Sexy babes await you here','A smoother, longer, ride'
What happens when the fuses blow? Do I have a warranty?
Or am I damaged product, to be dumped, replaced for free?
How did we ever manage, before they came along?
My grandparents could still recall a dance, a book, a song.
They lived into their 90's, retired gracefully...
Somehow I just can't see it, for the likes of you and me.
Shocked and burned before our time, we'll limp till 65.
Unable to reduce the speed, that's kept us all 'alive',
Fretting at the delay, Can't enjoy the time we save,
Rushing headlong into death, on a speeding radio wave.
