The Evolution of Human Love

When Austrolopithicus, the primates that came before our more similar ancestors, began to walk upright in order to see farther and carry their tools with them when they had to leave for food, their DNA started to change and gave way to Neanderthanl, the first totally upright primate.

(The hollywood depiction of the slumped-over, slack-jawed neanderthal came about because incidently, the first Neanderthal anthroplogists found was very very old when he died, had lost all his teeth and most of his jaw tendons, and had a very severe case of arthritis.)

As our spines and hips and pelvises adapted to this new, demanding posture, they had to carry all the weight of the torso, the shoulders and arms, and our bigger and better brains and skulls. Our pelvis turned inward.

An animal that walks on all fours has a pelvis that runs pretty much parallel to its spine. An animal which stands on its hind legs, like a kangaroo or tyranisaurus rex for that matter, has a pelvis shaped more like a bowl. The center of gravity is directed more abruptly towards the ground directly beneath us.

Equate this into childbirth.

Primates were being born with larger and larger skulls and our pelvic opening was becoming narrower and narrower at the same time. Babies were dying left and right. Mothers were dying. Entire primate species were endangered. Most went extinct. Homo Erectus, which would later become Homo Sapien with the advent of fire and language, had the bassackwards answer to Nature's demand. Premature birth.

Ever notice how human babies are the ugliest, noisiest, most helpless, writhing, dependant infants on the face of the planet? This is no mistake, but then there is no such thing in nature. This lengthy dependence on the mother for nutrition and guidance and training and so on was still killing the mother and often the child. The male no longer could simply spread his genes and leave to spread them further. If he did this without sticking around to help in the child-rearing process, his genes would die out, no matter how many women he'd fucked.

Premature birth led to dependence. Dependence led to partnership. Partnership led to communication. Communication led to expression. Expression led to emotion. Emotion led to Friendship. Friendship led to Love. Love led to ownership. Ownership led to war. And so evolution continues.

There's many more steps in there and the story is more convoluted than it seems. It's why there are entire colleges within universities concentrating on evolution entirely.

It isn't women that control men. It is the evolution of the requirement of what has become the family unit that controls all mankind. And even then, it is within the individual's choice to determine whether or not this is the path they wish to take.

So there you go. That's my schpiel on The Evolution of Human Love.
