don't compare to the pain
of disillusionment
and tears of realization


you're so vain
you probably think this thing is about you

but behind all the tears
in between them and beneath them
there's a ferocious hunger
waiting there


like glitter lingering in dirty hair


the teeth behind the kiss


the lie behind the smile


oh to walk a mile
in her shoes



i've got glitter in my eyes
and dreams tangled up in messy hair
of starry nights and whispered sighs
verdant pathways could lead anywhere
and oh these silly shoes that i've chosen to wear
it's as if i didn't know better
as if i don't quite care
or maybe she's just fearless of what might be waiting there.
