2007-05-24 [12345Jo]: Feel free to edit what I added if I did it incorrectly somehow, or tell me how to do it better. Pardon the quality on my first image - Sadly my current camera kinda sucks + poor light conditions (I kinda wanted the dark effect as well) and the rule that I cannot edit the picture doesn't help (= no noise removal or playing around with levels.) I could probably have done it without saying anything and no one would notice - but I want to be fair so it is what it is.

2007-05-24 [MisLuck]: For me it's kind of terrifying as I shoot with digital camera also and won't set the levels right in photoshop, so the quality IS poorer than with film as the cells can't get it always right even with correct settings. there is so much that can get for example the white balance go toward *****. I'm thinking of shooting these with film camera (or to slides) but I hate to wait them. =)

But I thought I shouldn't let it keep me from entering the competition; because to me the most important part about photography is the joy of taking pictures. I might not get the best quality pictures but I can still entertain and improve my ability to find motifes around me.

2007-05-24 [MisLuck]: I have good compact digital camera and good professional camera but still, they can never beat Black and white film or slides =) I'm scanning now my BW films to get some new pictures up to my house, and always wondering how thin the digital pictures are. But for these competitions I think the idea and composition is more important than to get every little detail right. No money can buy a camera that builds ideas and inspiration. =)

Your picture made me think of two other, "heavier" ways to show "worlds apart", but not sure how I would have managed to pull that off (one requires blood and a fake wound - the other idea requires a grave (and it would be way too rude to just "borrow" someones grave for a picture.)) I have way too many ideas - not enough time, skill nor confidence to pull them off though.

It was quite funny that all of my ideas for this pictures has been very dark. I think the theme is more set to longing than hate and anger, but have got no idea for longing one. :D My boyfriend came in the middle of the shootings and asked what was going on and asked am I angry to him as I came up with such an idea and hit HIS pillow and place with a knife. xD

2007-05-24 [12345Jo]: Yeah, I agree totally. I love when people manage to think of things that I would never have thought of myself. I usually lock myself to what already is around, instead of actually CREATING something that can convey what I want to convey.

I had another idea of getting my kitties to watch birds on my screen - just that they were tired when I got home just now and just wanted to sleep; so I couldn't bring myself to force them to pose for me. Too bad really because that would have been a bright and cute picture compared to the one I settled for now.

Plus his gesture right here is kinda soft/mild/shy, so it kinda added to the theme.

I hate the subject... I think it will be easier to do "sex". Can't think of my kitties being naughty in any way either; I let them do pretty much everything so nothing they do is "bad" or against the rules or tough.

Well, the deadline is as good as over - perhaps I will add a photo afterwards if I figure something out; but the odds of adding something today are slim. 2007-08-26 [Elmiira]: and Jen, I understand what you mean. :) but it is hard because it could be anything.. and it's nothing you can just take and photograph, like "a dog" would be. There is nothing solid "the beginning".. so that makes it hard.

I prefer broader themes too, it may take a bit longer to think of something, but this way, anything you want to fit the theme could fit if you do it right :P
