2004-11-30 [Cookieholic]: Wheeeeeee I'm the first ^_^
2004-11-30 [Mkejejfh]: go bonk, go bonk ^_^
2004-11-30 [Cookieholic]: Yay ^_^ thanks ingher ^_^
2004-11-30 [shadow_of_life]: THAT WAS COOOL!!!!!!!!!
2004-11-30 [Piccolo Sorcio]: that's a really good and beautiful poem you wrote Bonk...
2004-11-30 [Witless Child]: really cool...the inspirations and all is coo*smile*
2004-11-30 [Sunrose]: I moved the poems to Christmas Poetry 04, page 1 just like was done in the end with the Halloween Poetry Competition. This will save the crew work in the end. Hope you guys don't mind! :*
2004-11-30 [Cookieholic]: thanks everyone ^_^ okay, good idea ;)
2004-12-01 [The Dark Lord]: entries are looking good!
2004-12-02 [bringer of chaos]: Why is is Christmas? What happened to Kwanzaa and Yule and Raamadan and Haunikah? Why isn't it a Holiday competition?
2004-12-02 [nokaredes]: yea! I was gonna write a Yule poem but I didn't know if it'd be allowed because the name of the contest is the Christmas Poetry Competition...
2004-12-02 [Sunrose]: Because we can't have competitions for every Holiday. We have competitions for the main ones, that generally apply to most people in most countries: unlike Holidays you mentioned: they are in comparison less comon celebrated by all people in all countries. You are however welcome to make such a contest yourself of course :)
2004-12-02 [la vie lemon]: but would this contest be on the Mainstreet?
2004-12-02 [Sunrose]: The winners of the Christmas contest would, but the winners of any contest you make yourself wouldn't. Is that your only goal then? To win and get it on mainstreet? I would think the goal is to write poetry and see what others have written :)
2004-12-02 [Baen]: ARG! 35 lines?? *bangs head and takes out the scissors*
2004-12-02 [Sunrose]: eck! your poem is too long? :(
2004-12-02 [la vie lemon]: no that's not my only goal but it it's the main reason I'd put poetry online...it doesn't really feel like it counts if some random person praises my poetry, but if I was in a contest it might...
2004-12-02 [Sunrose]: You could post it on Daily_poem and who knows it might be picked...I don't know for sure though what rules they have :)
2004-12-02 [Sunrose]: Random peoples opinions can be very valuable..
2004-12-02 [Cookieholic]: they also have 35 lines, you can post on xxl daily poem
2004-12-02 [Sunrose]: Yes but I don't know if they have a minimum, which was the problem in this particular case ;)
2004-12-02 [Cookieholic]: the minimum is 8 lines i think. but i don't know if they'll make a fuss about it.
2004-12-02 [Sunrose]: I checked, it only mentions a maximum of 35 lines :)
2004-12-02 [Sunrose]: Of course if something is a rule, all submitters should follow them, or else the daily poem bosses would start make exceptions which is not fair to the others..hence I think if your poem doesn't follow the rules it will be removed simply to keep everything fair for everyone.
2004-12-03 [nokaredes]: but if there was a minimum, wouldn't it be the same as this contest? or are the two poem places moderated by different people?
2004-12-03 [nokaredes]: I understand what [la vie lemon] is saying. the daily_poem is too big--I don't read it all. I do read the featured poems on the Mainstreet though.
2004-12-03 [Sunrose]: this contest is different And run by other people :) // the daily poem bosses have to read everything too you know.. ;)
2004-12-04 [Cookieholic]: you know, the daily_poem is subjective, so even if you post a poem, if it's not that good, it might never appear =P
2004-12-04 [Sunrose]: of course it is, liking poems or not is always subjective.. :)
2004-12-05 [Ocean Dreaming]: Sorry for dropping in on the conversation like this, but let me try and clarify a few things being a Daily Poem Boss. The daily_poem has many submissions to it, yes. Yes, we have to read all the poems posted there and yes, the Daily Poem is subjective. The line limits on the regular Daily Poem consists of a maximum of 35 lines, but no minimum. Haiku are usually three lines. All the official contests used to be a initiative of the older (and now retired) Daily Poem Bosses Cristina and Calico Tiger. The task of organizing these contests has now fallen to the Assembly and they're doing a great job at it. (cont)
2004-12-05 [Ocean Dreaming]: The rules as they are for the official poetry contests were created with a little advice from the Daily Poem Bosses because, well, because we know which poems work better on Main Street in terms of length and such. Furthermore, while the contest is no longer run by the Daily Poem Bosses, the Daily Poem slot on Main Street is donated to these contests to show the winners and the Daily Poem Bosses judge the entries in this contest. That's all we have to do with the contest, we've advised the Assembly on the best type of rules and we judge the entries. (cont)
2004-12-05 [Ocean Dreaming]: So while there are a number of key differences between the regular Daily Poem and the official contests, it is wrong to say (or imply) that the Daily Poem Bosses have absolutely nothing to do with the contests.
2004-12-06 [Sunrose]: Hmm thanks..think most was clear though. The contest is run by other people, that is not supposed to imply daily poem bosses are not at all involved. In fact all crew could be involved if they wanted to, like I am.. :)
2004-12-06 [Doormat]: I think there should be some word counting too like some poems, i'm not going to mention any names, are like; a word per line
2004-12-07 [la vie lemon]: well maybe that's the type of poem they are
2004-12-07 [Cookieholic]: yeah... a famous one-word-a-lin
2004-12-07 [Sunrose]: I noticed that one :) If people will write them like that it just decreses their chances... :)
2004-12-08 [bringer of chaos]: I think you should make an exception for haiku's. '8 lines unless it's a haiku', you know, becuase that's almost discrimination against a type of poem.
2004-12-08 [my lover is someone I don't know]: yea. haiku's are a valid type of poetry
2004-12-08 [Sunrose]: This contest isn't a haiku-contest :)
2004-12-08 [bringer of chaos]: is there a haiku contest?
2004-12-08 [Sunrose]: I don't know actually :)
2004-12-09 [Doormat]: so are limericks...bu
