2007-03-19 [Mr. Wonka]: Hello there. Are you, by any chance, trying to demonstrate how religions fail in the face Science?
2007-03-19 [Blasphemy]: nah, I am just saying that religion (or the lack there of) should not be an institution, it should be like a personal choice, I don't like the idea of condemning people based on the premsis of one's own religion, if the other person does not follow that religion it really makes no sense to try to condemn them by a code they do not follow
2007-03-20 [Mr. Wonka]: This do work, and I agree. But I go even further. Well, you do have my support.
2007-03-20 [Blasphemy]: well what do you think?
2007-03-21 [Mr. Wonka]: I think that not only religions should not an institution, and being atheist or agnostic shouldn't either, well, same ideas than you, but plus, religions should not interfere in any way with Science, like in the US (Evolution not true? Adam and Eve a true story? Yeah, right...), nor take poeple hostages (like missionaries do with Africans), and should not oppress poeple (to my musulm friends: nowhere in the Coran it is said that women should be veiled. NOWHERE!!!!!). They should be restricted by laws that ensure basic human rights to all poeple, no matter the religions. So gay poeple can marry, musulm women are freed from slavery, ect... I am currently fighting in two wikis against protestant catholics to defend Evolution...
Oh, and no, I am not a godless infidel, I am Wiccan, by blood and by choice.
2007-03-21 [Blasphemy]: Well I would agree that religion should in no way have any effect or oppose any other person. So I would agree with you that it shouldn't interfere with science or the like but also I don't think being atheist really is an institution, atheist people don't really congregate or tell non-atheist people that they should become atheist, at least not on a very large scale issue, even this wiki does not say everyone should be athiest
2007-03-22 [Mr. Wonka]: Well, beign atheist IS an institution in the sense that you have a strong belief that there is no god. It is not as neutral as being agnostic. And I do tell poeple not to be religious, just to respect nature if they want their grand-children to live.
2007-03-22 [Freak The Geek]: For the sake of argument, I think you might be confused as to what an institution is. In this context you are referring to it as a collective of similar thinkers, but in actuality it is the formal organization of a collective group for the purposes of that group. So as [Blasphemy] is describing it, Atheist people, while they do have a similar belief, are not actively organizing nor attempting to convert others to the same belief. It’s more of an individual coming to this conclusion after investigating it for themselves.
2007-03-22 [Blasphemy]: indeed, and I think that all religions should act this way, if one is Christian, he may have been around other Christians at one point, and he may have read parts of the bible here and there, but in the end no person or group of people assimilated him into Christianity, he may have just thought "well this is for me" as more or less all atheist are.
2007-03-25 [Mr. Wonka]: I do not master english, so what I meant when I said "instution" is not what you understood. I just can't express it. I know that is not church of no-god. Well, there may be but I'd never have heard of it. ^^
And I agree with you blasphemy.
2007-03-25 [Blasphemy]: then everyone wins! lol
2007-04-13 [Half-Mad Poet]: hehe, and when everyone wins i win! just as a side note, the connotation of "godless infidels" has a tendency to be rather negative. oh course, i am one, but that’s besides the point ;)
2007-04-13 [Blasphemy]: well, also it does not make a lot of less, an infidel is like an enemy of god, but if one is godless, how can he even be gods foe?
2007-04-13 [Mr. Wonka]: Very true. And when I say godless infidel, anyone not being musulm is called so by some of them. I did not mean it harshly but humorusly. (I don't how that word is spelled)
2007-04-13 [Blasphemy]: ah I see :P
2007-04-14 [Mr. Wonka]: I could have said "goy". Or "Heretic". Or "Unbeliever".
2007-04-14 [Blasphemy]: or cheesewiz! lol JK, lapse of silliness
2007-04-15 [Mr. Wonka]: Cheesewiz, from the adorators of the Great STinking Cheese, I would guess...
2008-09-23 [Fallen faith (return to mine idle hands)]: Yeah, it's kinda sucky but I guess you don't miss what you don't have I think they should have one church where they introduce you to more than one specific religion, that way people have a choice in the matter. Like me I didn't find my "second faith" for lack of a better word in some church I learned from my friend.
2008-09-27 [Blasphemy]: that seems pretty true, as a child the parents I doubt ask the kid "do you want to go to church?" the parents just take them with them and they go to sunday school or what not where the atmosphere is very straight forward "god did this, god did that" and it is just accepted as common knowledge.
