Conflict Continuum

When the world was young it was awash in magic. Laughter and commotion echoed throughout the kingdoms and everyone had a general sense of good will. Life was good and peaceful.

Most people were happy.

But, time goes on and leaders with new ideas emerge and find followers and those followers grow in number. It took only years before the whole world was in discord and battles raged, the humans trying to force those with abilities into hiding out of jealousy, fear, disgust. Everyone had their reason. Aided by the creation of the gun and the bomb, ungifted humans managed to gain the upper hand. So wide spread was the damage from the fighting that, after the dust had settled, the leaders recorded the conflict as the ‘World War’ and hid that those… freaks, ever existed. Soon, those with special skills were forced into hiding, as any found in the open were quickly apprehended and never seen again.
More and more time passed and, as with all oppressed peoples, ideas started to brew again. One particularly powerful being by the name of Rafe Nafargie rose up to conquer all of society for himself and the battle that followed could not be covered up, could not be forgotten. Rafe brought the apocalypse. It took a combined effort of all who opposed him, gifted and ungifted, to lock him in his solid stone prison deep underground covered with runes and enchantments to keep him inside. Hopefully forever.

Rewritten history never said nothing was forever.

Now, in the partially ruined cities people mull about under newly formed governments with even newer police. These police hunt down and eliminate ‘those people and other beings found to possess any ability that may cause physical or mental harm to another person, place, or thing’. Needless to say, very few extraordinary people get to show their true faces anymore.

So tightly sealed was their past that everyone ignored the earthquakes, the dark aura, and general feeling of unease that grew each year on the surface of Rafe’s tomb.

News:
Some people have expressed interest in playing humans and perhaps cops. If you wish to do this, it is important to note:
1. Cops hate creatures. You would not join the force unless you wanted them dead.
2. It is HIGHLY unlikely that a creature would be a cop, but we are open to a creative story that might make that feasible.
3. If you play a human, you will not have any inhuman ability. You could have a gun or some other weapon, whatever you want, but you will not be able to do anything a regular person can not do now (and if you want to be a little extra strong or fast, you will show it, just as body builders do now, you can not be dainty and be able to lift three times your weight).

It didn't need to be said before because no one wanted to be a cop, but since the beginning of this roleplay, police have been people who captured creatures and people with special abilities and, at the very least, dragged them away never to be seen again. You want to join the force = you want to do that to them.
