Character name: Zataria Dark-Moon

Character setting: European Dark Ages, gothic fantasy

Age: 22

Race: Werewolf

Appearance: She is short with very pale skin. She has large silver eyes that are framed by long pitch black hair. Her hair hangs down below her waist but is usually tied up in a long pony tail. She wears black leather armor covered in black silk; the silk helps to break up her shape and make her blend into shadows easier. She carries a long black sword made of substance not unlike black glass but a million times harder. She also carried two long daggers made of the same material. When she walks among humans she always wears a floor length red gown, and a black silk necklace with a red ruby pendant.
As a wolf she is small and wiry, obviously better suited for speed and stealth over strength. Her fur is deep black with silver scars scattered through her body. Her most prominent is a spiraling silver line winding all the way from her left paw up to her shoulder.

History: Zataria was born to a pack of werewolves who lived near a small village. For a while her pack lived in harmony with the humans but when the church became more involved unrest began. The humans began to fear them until one day they banded together and attacked Zataria’s pack. Zataria was away at the time but she returned in time to see her mate and daughter slaughtered. She escaped and was found, on the verge of death, by a master assassin. He took her in and trained her and when she was ready she took her test, later the organization she belonged to attempted to assassinate her because they feared the ease with which she slaughtered her targets. They failed and she fled.

Personality: Zataria is very quiet, she prefers to listen rather than talk. Her grief, of the death of her pack, hangs over her and she is plagued by nightmares. She is given to sarcasm and is extremely blood thirsty; enjoying her hunt and kill more than a normal person would. She regards children as sacred, due to the loss of her daughter, and would rather die than harm a child. She is loyal to the few who manage to get in to her good graces and will die for her friends.

Occupation: Assassin for hire

Abilities: She can change her shape into a wolf when ever she likes. She is gifted with working with shadows and can blend into them and use them to spy on others no matter where they are. In relation to her shadow manipulation she can recover from a limited amount of wounds by drinking blood that is not her own and often uses the shadows to store blood.

A short, squat lady, casually dressed, popped her head around the door, apparently trying to ascertain whether this was indeed the room she was supposed to be in. Satisfied that she was in the right place she entered and headed for the desk in the corner. She sat herself down in a chair, opened one of the desk drawers, looked over the contents, and then shut it again. Then she looked up at Zataria and gave her a broad smile. "Now," she said, and leaned back in her chair, "Now. I'd like to know a little more about you, Zataria. Yes. Now, I already know a little, but I'm afraid the detail is somewhat lacking in places. Yes, somewhat lacking, unfortunately. Now... What was your daughter's name? How old was she when she was killed, and how was she killed, exactly?" The large smile remained fixed on her face as if she were unaware of the sensitive nature of her questions.

Zataria stiffened, her eyes narrowed as she glared at the woman.
"So nice to discuss this with a complete stranger.' She stated coldly. Her eyes closed for several moments as if she gathered her strength to speak of the painful subject.
"My daughter's name was Aysia Wintermoon. She was beautiful, with bright green hair and the most brilliant red eyes ever seen on this earth." Zataria smiled softly as she remembered but then a tear trickled down her cheek,
"She was 5 years old when she died. They put her in a sack and threw her in a fire and I was forced to watch as my daughter was burned alive, screaming for my help." Zataria fell silent, her eyes frigid with fury as she glanced at the woman, daring her to ask the next question.

The Lady simply nodded as Zataria talked, and tutted in sympathy a few times as if Zataria were simply telling her about something of little significance. "Well." she said when Zataria had finished. "Yes... Well. Now. You were found by a killer of some sort, yes? Now, why do you think he saved you? Or-" she she spread her arms in a small shrug, "do you know why he saved you?"

Zataria seemed to perk up at the question; her eyes glowed as she chuckled, "Oh, I am very much aware of why he chose to help me. He always made certain I knew exactly why I had been offered a second chance. My first human kills were the Hunter's who killed my Pack. Of course, I wasn't skillful at the time and ended up half dead by the end of the fight." She shrugged dismissively.
"He watched the entire fight and saw in me talents and abilities I'd never known I had. So he took me in and trained me to use my skills." She smiled, a frightfully toothy grin, "It was fun while he lasted... he had such delicious blood."

The inspector smiled as if they topic at hand were as harmless and pleasant as discussing the afternoon weather. "Okay," she said, "That's helpful. Yes. Very helpful. But I quite understand one thing. Now, this assassin saved you because he saw your potential, yes? And yet, as soon as you started to realise that potential, they wanted to kill you for exactly the same reason they originally saved you. Does that not seem... a little odd to you? Hmmm?"

"It did seem odd to me at the time. I was young and naive and confused as to their fear towards me." Zataria laughed mockingly,
"Now I've come to realize that they were only human. It is the nature for such creatures to fear one superior and more powerful than themselves." She shrugged uncaringly, "So yes, at the time I was confused."

"Yes, yes." The lady nodded as she spoke, "Yes, now. That leads me nicely on to the next point. Yes. You had powers they did not. Now, tell me: is the ability to control shadow as you do common to all werewolves?"

Zataria shook her head, "No, it is not. Although, the ability is not unheard of, it is very rare. Few Wolves have the ability because generally we were creatures of light and nature." She smiled and flourished her hand, allowing a black wisp of shadow to drift lazily over her pale skin, "It is extremely useful though."

"Hmmm," The inspector paused from her usual nodding for a moment and her smile slackened slightly as she spent a moment in thought, "yes," she said, smile returning, "Right. Now, is that ability genetic, or learned? How did you get it?" she asked.

"I made a deal with Death. He granted me my powers and in return I serve him by sending any souls that he asks for. I would kill my own lover if he asked it of me. So yes, my ability is learned." Zataria grinned and twisted her fingers, letting shadows circle her slender wrist.

"Andy why did you make such a deal?" The lady asked, in that tone of voice often used by psychiatrists to ask patients how they feel about things, "And... Yes. When exactly did you make his deal - in relation to the other events we've discussed?"

Zataria blinked, as if the question was so obvious it was stupid,
"Revenge." She smiled patiently at the inspector,
"I needed the power to destroy humans."

"Okay. Right, Yes. Okay." The inspector thought for a few moments again, and was evidently having trouble with something, as the hint of a frown appeared on her face. "Revenge on... the assassins? Or someone else?" She asked.

"I made the deal after the death of my Pack as I lay in a cage. I want revenge on every human in this miserable world." Zataria hissed as her nails tapped her leg, her eyes gleaming as she watched the other woman with a cruel smile.

"I'm awfully sorry," said the lady, with a sickly sweet, sympathetic smile, "but none of this information was in the history I was provided with - why were you in a cage, exactly?

"I actually don't know... Hunters caught me after my Pack's Death but they didn't kill me." Zataria shrugged.

"Right. And you don't know why they didn't kill you? Now, did you escape from these hunters yourself?" The inspector persisted, "and how long ago was all of this?"

"In a way I did. After my deal with death I used my abilities with shadows to kill them. I didn't know a thing about stealth so I nearly lost. This happened 15 years ago." Zataria answered and yawned.

The inspector was clearly puzzled at this point, but tried her best to keep a pleasant smile on her face, "...Now. Mathematics may not be my strong point, but... you're 22 now. This happened fifteen years ago, and your daughter was five at the time. That would mean you were two years old when you gave birth to your daughter." She gave a strained smile, "I think something has gone wrong, somewhere..."

"No, nothing has gone wrong at all." Zataria said with a disdainful look. "I am not a human who can turn into a wolf, I am a Wolf who can turn into a human. So saying, my kind matures extremely fast but then kind of freezes as time goes past and can live for centuries. I'll admit I was young but no younger than one of your human teenagers having a child."

"Aaaaaah, I seeeeeee," said the inspector, nodding her head in understanding, "well that makes more sense now!" she continued, with a beaming smile. "Now, well, I think I'm pretty much all done here..." She paused to think if there was anything else she needed to ask, decided that there wasn't, and gave a satisfied nod as she stood up, "Thank you for your time, ms Zataria," she added, and strode towards the door.
