Chapter Eighteen:

"Oh dear...tsk tsk, Kuroi, you're goin' blind."

Dalamir glared up at his captor with great resentment, through the iron bars and under the layer of sweat that covered his skin. His vision was blurred, and he grew tired after the long agony that fell upon him for the last few hours.

The Devil's comrade smirked all the while, and knelt down to the distraught elf's level,

"I'm very sorry about this, Dalamir."

He grunted in reply, and looked away,

"Screw off." he muttured.

"Hm. Unfortune, isn't it? How I mistook you for your brother...?"

Dalamir swallowed, and stirred slightly, and silence filled the room for a while. Kuroi stared him down for a while, then stood up, and began pacing.

"Well, you can blame both of your pointy ears, and my horrible vision for the hours and hours of torment you've just went through."

"What the hell did we ever do to you?"

"Well, this, first of all." He gestured to him constantly shaking arm, and feigned a grimace,"Your brother's rather fiesty, isn't he?"

Dalamir looked over, and contained a smirk,"That's rather obvious..."

Kuroi cleared his throat, and watched Dalamir squirm and stir more,

"Well, it's good to know the drugs are working."

"...You're a bastard, you know that?"

"Thank you, Dalamir."

He proceeded to the door,"...and don't worry. Your brother will be joining you soon."

As he left, Dalamir's eyes followed tiredly. He moaned, and bung the back of his head against the concrete,"Ahhh crap..."

"Pfft." After spitting onto the ground, a migrain continued to pursue and engulf Kaine's mind. He grunted, and glanced over to the bound hanyou twitching her nose helplessly.

Melody's senses had dulled, and the bandages covering her where her eye should've been were beginning to loosen. Lazily, her eye travelled over to him, and spat out,"What." in disdain.

Kaine squinted at her, and rolled his eyes,"Nothing." he muttured.

"You're so defensive halfbreed!" Nightshade teased spitefully, taking a seat in boredom.

Her one eyed glare switched from Kaine to Nightshade. Disdain twisted into her face, and she sighed,"For fuck's sake...stupid bitch." she hissed under her breath.

Morgan grimaced at the semi-blinded girl, flicking a strand of hair from her face. She sniffed slightly in the cold air, sighing heavily "Will you stop whining? By Kuroi!" she growled, twitching her rough-furred wolf ears this way and that.

Nightshade twitched her attention to Melody, glaring. "Your days are numbered mutt. I suggest you shut up before I remove your tongue as well."

"What? Do you expect me to sit here and be silent while I watch embodiments of hell wander and plotand stare? No, dammit." Melody spat, trying to stretch out of her awkward body position.

"You could leave," The demon replied tiredly, "You're really not wanted here, or anywhere for that matter half-breed."

With a dull look, she replied,"Don't you think I would've left already if I could?" Melody gestured to the inconvient bindings wrapped around her,"And, I do believe I'm wanted here...and I don't know why." she gave a look to Kaine,"Ask him why--"

"Does it really matter?" Kaine cut in, glancing at her with a patronizing expression,"You're gonna die soon enough anyways..."

"You're too soft Kaine," Nightshade spat, glaring at the two, "Kuroi is wasting his time with you. You can't even get rid of a mutt standing two feet from you."

He sighed, wishing that he wouldn't have to repeat himself for another hellian,"He apparently doesn't want me to kill her yet. Just because you like to think impatiently and agressively in these situations, doesn't mean Kuroi will, so back off."

"Make me," She challenged childishly, imitating a pitch of a toddler, "Damn, that bastard needs to get his ass moving."

"Tell me about it." Kaine added, stretching lazily,"Angels just don't die by themselves...well," he smirked slightly to himself,"All except for dear Dimitri."

A grin sprawled across the demon's features. "He should be more careful..."

Kaine sighed,"He has such potential. He should choose his friends more wisely...they can't even take care of themselves." he gave a suggestive glance to Melody.

"Upon our last meeting he considered the halfbreed anything but an ally," She smirked, "Maybe she wasn't putting out enough."

The rage inside Melody roared further, attitude becoming somewhat agressive,"I'm gonna rip your fucking tongue out of your mouth!!"

The demon stood her ground casually, watching the desired reaction with pleasure.

"Bitch, please," She growled, "You couldn't even come close to killing me if you gave it your all."

"Besides," Nightshade added with a morbid laugh, "I'm already dead."

Before Melody could come up with some comment the vampire cut in.

"You're pathetic my dear." He sighed "Look at yourself Mel. Just stop blaming everyone else and stare long and hard at yourself. You'll see what I do."

"A creature of purgatory with no past and very little time left," Nightshade grinned, seating herself once more. Then, a glimmer radiated her gaze in the deadliest fashion, "By the way Melody...How's the baby?"

She very was close to her snapping point but did her best to restrain it. No witty remark came to mind which resulted in a few grunts and a sharp glare.

"I'll answer that for you. She tried killing both him and herself." Kaine cla1med.

"Really?" The creature's facade was wore an expression on false shock, "And to think--she even failed at that!"

Morgan rolled her eyes in the mean while, pushing herself off the tree trunk to walk over to the tiny fire and shuffle her boot-clad foot around in the embers. "Can you honestly blame her?" she muttered to herself.

"Yes, actually. It's quite easy," The demon replied, having nearly forgotten the wolf was present. "But, I suppose you do have a point. You can't really blame her for being a slut in the first place and getting pregnant--She can't help it."

Morgan muffled a harsh laugh at this, grinning sadistically into her hand.

"Shut up!!" Melody hissed, fury twanging and pulling at the beast inside,"It wasn't my fault." the hanyou spat in her defense.

"I seriously doubt that," Nightshade sneered, glancing at the sky, "Well, it's been lovely but I have places to go and angels to massascre. Until next."

At that the demon sprawled her wings outwards, their leathery surface blotting any light in the vicinity. She waves to the others in falsely, friendly gesture and after a moment, took flight, leaving nothing but a ring of dust to suggest she had ever been there in the first place.

Kaine glanced over at where the demon once stood, and shook his head,"Agh, arrogant little..." he rolled his eyes, then glanced over to Melody,"She left almost as fast as Dimmy did." he commented rudely,"Though I don't blame him; it's only been a few hours and I'm sick of you."

"Then why the hell won't you lemme leave, dumbass?!"

"You know why, kid. And if you don't, I needn't explain myself to the likes of you. Like how Dimitri doesn't need to explain himself for running away...it's very clear. I'd die if I were him. The minute I faced any hanyou, elf, vampire, or any sorta fuck-face like you, I'd shove that silver revolver into my fucking wings and fire." Kaine's voice grew slowly sadistic, and evil smirk came in and out,"Which, according to dear Nightshade, sounds legitimate."

Anger twisted and stirred inside Melody, the monster inside her pounding madly against the cages called her ribs,"I wouldn't say that if I were you." she said. Something close to hope filled her,"'Cause I bet he's off somewhere happy and safe right now, with the others, thriving and pigging off some random sort of food, planning and plotting, ready to kick your asses--"

With another comment from the hanyou, he snapped,

"God dammit, Melody!!" he yelled,"Stop filling your head with false dreams and fantasies! No angel is gonna come waltzing in for the rescue, no gleaming white-winged goateed knight and his fucking elven posse is gonna walk through wind and rain to save you. You know why? Because this is reality. And in reality, nothing is ever good. Not you, not me, not Satan, not even the big man himself. In reality, good things don't happen...miracles don't exist, miracles are non-existant in reality, I'd think you of all people should know that!! So suck it up, princess!! Stop it with your fucking hopes and dreams, take 'em and shove 'em up your ass, 'cause nothing is gonna happen! Nothing! Not one goddamn thing!!"

As the three came up abruptly fom the basement, Skylar looked over and blinked at the unseen half-vampire,"...um..." confusion aroused him for the first time in a while.

Dominic stared at Skylar, frowning darkly "Who's that?" he asked, in the same tone he'd used when addressing Rayan.

Dimitri grimaced at Dominic "That's Skylar."

Dominic continued to stare at Skylar "Can you like, fly or something?"

Skylar blinked, and laughed, leaving a casual smile,"That I can...um, Dimitri, do you have some ability to pull random people from basements or something...?"

"No." Dimitri said bluntly, looking back to Skylar "I find it hard to believe none of you heard him, he's very loud." This earned him a look of loathing, but he ignored it. "In any case, he thought I was some intruder, tried to attack me, so I chained him up."

"Well it was kinda hard to recognize you with only one wing, ya crackhead." Dominic spat, turning to leave for the kitchen.

Dimitri glared after him.

"Well, you're a sentimental person." Skylar commented, chuckling to himself among the bickering two.

Dimitri turned his glare to Skylar, following Dominic into the kitchen, though not to talk with him. He started searching through drawers and cupboards.

Rayan plopped onto a couch, and looked to Dominic,"So, how long've you known our Dimmy?"

Dominic shrugged "Four years, I'm guessing," he said, taking over all the noise Dimitri was making searching through Fale's things.

An overexageratted gasp escaped from Rayan,"Really? Dimitri, how could you not've mentioned him?"

"Sorry, honey, I thought you trusted me!" Dimitri responded blandly, finally finding the object of his desire. He lit up his smoke, smiling gratefully. Shame though, that he took up the habit again. But he's dead, so it doesn't really matter.

Rayan cocked his head,"What the hell are you doing?!" he snapped suddenly, dumbed out expression slowly turning into one of a mix of concern and anger.

Dimitri blinked, shrinking back slightly "Um... smoking..?" he responded somewhat meekly.

"What happened to "I quit"?!"

Skylar sighed,"Well, it doesn't really matter...he's practically dead anyways." he chuckled lowly to himself.

Dimitri looked away, semi-guiltily, pulling the joint out of his mouth "Um..." he searched his mind for an excuse, but, finding none, he said lamely "I...uh... felt like it?"

Rayan scoffed, smirking inside at the guilty face which was his guilty pleasure,"Hmpf." The inner smirk filtered outwards,"Nyah, it's okay," he added in a teasing tone,"You're lucky a certain someone's not here to bug you about the smell with her sensitive nose."

Skylar blinked, and looked out the window,"Oh, that's right...we still have those two waiting."

The guilty expression dropped from Dimitri's face like a brick and he grimaced, cigarette dangling from his lips. He wrinkled his nose slightly and responded with silence.

As the silence continued, Rayan noticed that he tugged on a delicate string. He then took on the guilty face, and mumbled a quiet,"Sorry..."

"Excuse me, sorry to dampen this moment any further, but," Skylar started,"Dimitri, when do you wanna head back? ...do you even want to?"

A pause.

"...not that it really matters. I mean, do you think I wanna end up saying, 'I wasted time flying over mountains and through woods for nothing'? No."

Dimitri looked from Rayan to Skylar tiredly, sighing. "Uh... Yeah, um... I don't think she'd all that enthused about seeing me." he said, somewhat pathetically.

"Why so?" Skylar asked, flicking some dust off his shirt,"She was the one pouring her heart out at us to make sure you were okay, spazzing like some-- I mean the insane woman she is. I hope over the hills and through the woods, you heard her very obvious 'bring him back's. And no, after what I guess ended up being your 'final goodbye' to her, and us, her and her raging sea of horomones aren't looking for sympathy, or attention, or some unrealistic and melodramatic speech; she just wants to see if you're okay."

"Well, in that case I'm just dandy." he smiled fakely "I'm sure you can pass on the message."

Another expected pause.

"Hmpf. I guess you get nowhere when two genuine jackasses clash with smart-ass comments. Antics, are needed, in this case." With the final comment, with an odd gesture, he turned on his heel and pushed past Dominic with a simple 'excuse me', proceeding to walk into the basement. An extremely loud 'slam' followed.

Rayan cocked his head, and cleared his throat at the bizzare gesture,"Um...well, he's mighty stubborn," he started, confused,"...eheh, what the hell? That was sure somethin', huh?" A futile attempt to lighten the mood caused his ears to droop again,'Nyaw, it's my fault.'

Dominic brushed his shoulder self-conciously like he'd been touched by something dirty, then turned to give Dimitri a look. "Well, Dim, seems you just can't get along with anyone these days."

Dimitri glared at the half vampire angrily over his shoulder, grinding his cigarette into his palm and cracking his knuckles. "Ugh..." Dimitri frowned, feeling bad already. He glanced at Rayan, and his drooping ears, and scowled. "Oh, bloody hell, don't beat yourself up or anything."

"Oh, Sorry..." Rayan cleared his thrat as his ears slowly rose back to their normal state. He had that weird Rayan expression on his face that made everyone feel guilty and want to hug him.

Dimitri pulled an angry yet sympathetic expression, and he resulted in reaching over with his good arm and jabbing Rayan in the shoulder roughly. "I'll go talk to him, just stop making that face!"

"Tee hee. Nyahh, victory!" A smile graced Rayan's face,"I'm sorry about that, Dimmy."

"Don't call me Dimmy," he said automatically as he grabbed his cane and started after Skylar's path, taking care to shove Dominic as he went.

Dominic scowled, with half a mind to shove the angel down the stairs, but refrained.

Dimitri pulled a small smirk at him, and opened the basement door, starting awkwardly down the stairs, closing it behind him. He sighed, slightly annoyed, as he reached the foot of the stairs "Skylar...?"

"Uh-huh?" A voice emerged bluntly. Skylar was poking at random pieces of furniture, back facing Dimitri. A smile was hidden under his dull response.

"I, uh.." Dimitri's eyes trailed to Skylar's poking of furniture and he raised an eyebrow "What you, uh, doin' there?"

"Oh, writing my genuine inner thoughts in my diary, whilst cuddling a blue plushie bunny which I hide under my matress so I can build up my annoying wall up higher." It was sarcastic, but in a know-it-all tone, the sort that would drive any person that didn't really understand what he was trying to say insane. Skylar liked that sort of power, as well as the knowledge that he had over everyone else's. Smirking, he continued,"Never mind. Let's cut to the chase, Dimmy, 'cuz beating around the bush obviously isn't your thing. I accept your apology or whatever the hell you were gonna say."

"..." Dimitri's jaw went slack, and he stared at Skylar with a dark expression. He felt his fingers twitch nervously, as his mind clouded upon hearing the familiar scenario. He regained his composure quickly, proceeding to frown. "What're you babbling on about?"

He looked at him and observed the nervous actions, then suddenly regretted saying what he did. Skylar continued smiling though, a smile that read 'happy but guilty',"Nothing, Dim. Nothing."

Dimitri continued to scowl. "Oh, no, no I think it's something." he said, rather irritably "Please, Skylar, enlighten me."

"I don't know what you're talking about." The snide expression widened,"Seriously, forget it." Skylar wiped some sleep or other random substance from his eye, afterwards giving his hand a lazy stare,"So, what were you planning to say before?"

Dimitri felt his fist crack audibly from behind his back, and he forced an obviously fake smile "I figure I'll go talk to her if she cares so much," he said, somewhat dully.

His face lit up like a child in a candy store, but then regained the smart-ass composure,"Well, that's more than what I expected...but glad to hear it."

Dimitri wrinkled his nose, some ugly remarks stirring in his head. He turned and started back up the stairs with some effort, grumbling profanity.

"Thank you," emerged directly behind him. Skylar cleared his throat,"Oh...uhh...what about your other friends?"

Dimitri looked at him over his shoulder, raising an eyebrow "What about them?"

"You wanna stay a while? You know, 'cause we practically just got here. I'm sure Mel can wait another day or two."

"All alone with Dalamir I know I wouldn't last that long," he sighed, continuing to frown "Well fine, if you want we can stay." he continued slowly up the stairs "But don't expect them to be all that hospitable for another night."

"Alrght then!" Skylar chuckled, pushing his dark hair back from his face,"Really?" he started,"Well, they seem a lot nicer than you say they are...anyways, with Rayan's magic stare, he could keep us here for decades."
