Thank you for your hard work!! Love you all!!
The morning glow of the sun through thin clouds hit the visitors of the house gently.
Dimitri, in a very deep, exhausted sleep, slept unstirred under the rays, comfy in the shade of his blanket.
Rayan had snored all night, obnoxiously; it was so loud and intruding, it almost sounded as if he was doing so on purpose. He laid spread across the floor in a heap, breathing heavily.
Melody coiled at this, and looked at him in irritation. He snorted loudly again, and she sighed. She couldnt help but felt warmth at how calm the elf looked, and relaxed and untensed and paranoid and always on the move as he usually was. Just an image of calmness. She looked back to Dimitri. She watched him sleep for a while, and smiled at how peaceful he looked as opposed to his brooding expressions, thinking darkly. She found comfort in all this.
At that very moment Dimitri let out a loud, embarrassing, idiotic snort. After which he cruled deeper into his little chair, hiding more now from the sun, but Rayan's snoring more than anything else.
Melody's expression sort of flared, the peace disrupted with the loud sudden noise from his nose. She smiled again though, as subtle calmnesss seeped back into the room, while he moved under his blanket. She propped hersel fon her elbows and rubbed the sleep from her eyes, pushing herself up to look around the room.
Rayan's snoring continued, and she had every doubt that it wouldn't stop for a while.
The snoring was seriously beginning to grate on Dimitri's half-awake nerves. He crawled out of the chair and moved over to where Rayan was sleeping, looking more like a blanket that had become possessed with the power of floating across the room. He reached over and pinched shut Rayan's nose, maybe smirking.
Melody watched and cupped her mouth to keep herself from giggling out loud.
Instantly this loud, grueling, spatty sort of noise escaped his mouth; it soudned sort of gross, like phlegm stuck in his throat or him choking on whatever was available. He simply murumred something incomprehensib
le, and pinched Dimitri's arm, prying it away with unexpected strength. He turned over on the floor, and came to a soundless sleep.
"Looks like it worked..." Melody said quietly.
Dimitri stared up at her from beneath the blanket, half a face and a bloodshot eye was all that was seen. He made some sort of grunt, rubbing his arm where Rayan had pinched it. "What time is it?" he asked, voice so scratchy it was a surpise his throat didn't fall apart. "Fucking early, I imagine."
She was sort of taken aback from this sight, and she didn't really get why,"Umm..." her eye fumbled around and raced for a clock,"Ehh, like, almost seven..."
Dimitri's gaze followed hers to the cloack as well, he frowned deeply. Despite being asleep for close to twelve hours, he still felt ungodly tired and exhausted. His back ached; hours of walking the day before did nothing to soothe it. "I'm hungry," he announced.
He got up and wandered over to the kitchen, lumbering along brokenly. He blinked at the glass he had been drinking from the night before, thought of the cooler Skylar had. He avoided the fridge and went to the cupboards.
Melody sat upright on the couch, also weary from the previous night. Her vision followed his path, and she sighed, placing the blankets on her lap, folding her hands on top of them. She gnawed at the inner side of her lip at the awkward silence, and had the intention of making much effort to solve it,"I think there might be cookies or crackers or something to the left..."
His hand scoured the cupboard until it landed on the crackers. He opened them up and ate a couple, filling up a glass of water. He downed that as well, turning around and leaning on the counter to face Melody. "Good sleep?" he asked, politely enough.
She looked up at him, and attempted a smile, making it seem more painful than out of happiness,"Passable, I guess," Melody started, running her fingers through her toussled hair,"I couldn't really tell if I was sleeping or just lying around with my eyes closed." she snickered at herself tiredly,"You looked mighty comfy."
He gunted again, shrugging. He ate some more crackers, rubbed his eye. "I guess. I would've liked an actual bed for once in a blue moon, but our generous friend made sure that didn't happen." he said this resentfully enough, drinking some more water, swishing it around in his mouth obnoxiously.
She giggled as quietly as she could, seeing as Rayan was still in his unending slumber. Any noise was muffled into his pillow,"Well that's Dalamir for you..." Melody shifted slightly, bringing her feet up on the couch, folding her knees,"I don't blame him though, we're all really beat..."
Dimitri nodded shortly, eating some more. He reflected a little on Dalamir's recital of his time in captivity and suddenly felt less resentful. He wandered back to where she was, standing over Rayan, and thought about pouring some water on his head to punish him for the snoring. "Yeah, I think he needs his sleep." he offerred, thinking on it.
She watched him, and smiled slyly, thinking about the possible action that was to come,"Hmm, you think you should?``
He shrugged again. Feeling some mirth he tipped the glass and watched the water pour down onto the poor, unsuspecting elf's head.`
Rayan jerked awake, cold water dripped all over his dark hair. He made this loud yelping noise, followed by a sigh of annoyance. He scratched his head,`Oh my...`
Dimitri pulled back the glass, smiling toothily. He drank the rest, turning back to the kitchen "Good morning, Ray."
The elf sniffed, giving him this glowering look that seemed totally out of character; it was comical. Melody laughed at this.
`` Well aren`t you full of sunshine... `` he muttured, throwing his blanket off of him, making this whoosing soiund followed by some wet sort of `ploof`.
Dimitri put the glass on the table, and sighing, went to the fridge. "Are you guys hungry? I'm still hungry. Want some food?"`
Melody looked up to him, and got up off the couch,`` Yeah, sounds good.``
The elf grunted in reply, sounding more like this brother than ever.
Dimitri side-glanced him as he cracked open an egg into a pan. "Geez, I shoulda let you sleep in; you sound like Dalamir, and I'd rather not have two of him." he said this jokingly, feeling slightly better that there was someone with worse morning mood swings than him.
Rayan's face twitched at the sound of the grueling egg splatter-esque sort, and couldn't help but crack a smile,"Oooh, funny guy now?"
"I let this side of me come out sometimes, tiny elf." he said condesendingly, head deep in the fridge again, feeling around for some cheese. Upon finding it, he grated it and sprinkled it into the eggs, thinking about onions.
"Chef Dimitri, huh?" Melody bit her lip playfully, sustaining a low giggle. Her senses tingled at the sound, ears flopping happily. The low scent of cheese filled the room, and she couldn't help but wander over to the kitchen. She was beyond hungry.
He waved a spatuala in her general direction. "Don't try and get involved, Melly. I know the kicthen is where a woman should be but this is fine dining and I don't want you messing it up." he waved the tool a little more, gave her a grin, then went back to the stove.
She gave him this sour look, although she had this sudden urge to laugh at his poke towards feminism. Melody rolled her eye and smiled warily,"Oh, I'm sure," she said, voice teetering on the edge of harsh sarcasm and some other unwanted positivity she couldn't quite put her finger on. She leaned on the side of the counter facing the stove, looking at her nails, almost mocking her gender,"The foreign delicacy of eggs can only be conceived by a creature with balls."
He flipped the omelet and the fluffy yellow substance twirled gracefully in the air and landed back in the pan, sizzling pleasently. "No. Just creatures blessed with common sense. You know, Melody, it really isn't that hard to crack an egg. You should stop being so critical."
Her face scrunched up, but she let out a short snicker,"Okay, okay, I guess a woman's not smart enough to know that..." she said sacastically.
He side-glanced her "Right on the dot." he said, entirely serious. He moved the eggs to a plate and seached around for bread.
Her face drooped pathetically out of good manner, as if he had just pinched her,"Ouch," Melody mumbled, sinking a bit.
He handed her the plate, eggs and buttered bread in all it's glory "Now eat up, your ribs are starting to show and it's gross." he gave her a little grin, just to let her know he was joking, and turned back to the stove, starting in on Rayan's food.
Melody gripped the plate, and give him this look of warning, but as usual a smile ensued,"Thank you, Chef Dimitri." She put the plate on the counter, and grabbed the bread, taking a bite of it. While munching, she scouted out for a fork.
Rayan looked slightly frustrated at his now half-dry hair, pulling at it like some picky school girl,"You can warn me next time you decide to fuck up my hair!"
Dimitri gave him a look over his shoulder like he was staring at a toe fungus. "Rayan, you know, eventually, you're gonna grow old and your hair is gonna go gray and fall out. You're gonna be wrinkled and leathery and probably crippled, and then what will you have left, hmm?" he threw some onions into the mix "Just your self-happiness. And if all that makes you happy about yourself is your girly elven pride then you have got a lot of shaping up to do. Now stop whining and come get your food." he turned and gave a similar looking plate to Rayan as he had to Melody. He watched Rayan gripe at his hair "Would you like a towel?"
The elf sighed, and looked down at his food,"No thank you, Dimmy." he said, sounding a lot softer than earlier this morning. Rayan smiled suddenly, taking a whiff of the food,"Mmmm..."
A muscle jumped in his jaw at the name, but he managed a smile. "I'm gonna go wake up Skylar and then start the coffee." he glanced over at the stairs, not really excited at the prospect of mounting them, but wandered over to them anyways and started up them. He was only a little embarrassed at how hard he gripped the railing, but made it up in one piece.
"Mmmr..." a low grumble came from the guest room, as expected from Dalamir. He swore some, muffled through the door, but still could be deceiphered.
Dimitri ground his teeth and thought absently that perhaps the water on the head would've been a better awakening for the older elf. He instead kicked the door "Get up!" he called through, not entirely sure he wanted to face Dalamir in the morning. He continued down the hall way knocking maybe less rudely on Skylar's door.
And even louder roar from the older elf followed Dimitri, profanity flying everywhere, and even some banging.
A much more polite and modest moan came from Skylar's room,"I'm up, I'm up!"
Dimitri glanced wearily over his shoulder at the elf's door, fearing the safety of his head. He crept back down the hallway, passing with caution the room of many noises and back down the stairs.
"Fucking Christ." Dalamir slammed the door open; this unnerving look on his face was granted to the back of Dimtri's head.
Rayan looked up at him, and his face almost fell off.
Dimitri turned to look at him, swallowing. "There's coffee..." he offerred, hoping this would serve as some white flag.
"Fucking right." He pressed angrily past Dimitri to the kitchen, towards the brewing smell of coffee beans. It somewhat eased him.
Dimitri surpressed the urge to submerge the elf's head within the boiling brew and brushed himself off where he'd been pushed. "I don't know where anything else is," he started, making up for the rude words he felt like spouting "so unless you want it black you'll have to go searching for it."
"I like it black." His voice was sharp, and supringly loud for someone who had just woken up. It was teetering on the edge of angry. Dalamir scouted out for a mug, pushing over all other items wrecklessly. It was surpising that nothing broke.
Dimitri offered his mug warily, holding it out with caution. He'd been drained of appetite upon the site of the raging elf. "Here, before you tear down the house," he added slimily.
The elf ripped it from his fingers, glueing it below the coffee maker as it dripped into the mug. His patience was running thinner with every drop, tension in the room growing higher.
Melody watched him begin to tick away, and had to bite her lip before she burst out laughing at how ridiculous he looked.
Dimitri grinded at how uptight Dalamir was, the dripping of the coffee grating on his nerves so immensely he felt like smashing the coffee maker to bits with one hand. As if on cue the silence was broken by the delightful ding! of the toaster. Dimitri quickly grabbed the bagel and shoved it in front of him as he did his mug, the hot pastry burning his fingers.
Dalamir looked from the bagel up to meet Dimitri's face. This rancid face of annoyance pressed nto his face, and he ripped the mug from the coffee maker before it was even done. The scorching liquid began to pour itself all over the base of the maker and the counter, as he stormed gracefully to the couch. He claimed the territory well.
Dimitri blinked, taking the bagel back. He stuck it on a plate and grabbed a cloth starting to clean up Dalamir's coffee mess. "Good sleep?" he asked, voice dripping with sarcasm, his good mood already ruined.
"No thanks to you." The bluntness in his voice with little effort made the words sound more bitter. He sipped his coffee, eyes scanning around the room like some insane man.
Melody made a face at him, pursing her lips at how tense he was. Rayan shared this, tapping his fingers nervously on the couch.
Dimitri wrinkled his nose at the older elf, entirely unmoved. "It couldn't have been too bad, nice guest bed and all. Sealed away from noise of Rayan's snoring, must've been peaceful," he returned just as scathingly, moving back to the stove to start on Skylar's food.
Rayan's expression was nothing short of hilarious, face drooped along with his ears, looking to Dimitri,"I'm not that bad!"
He offered something akin to a smile of sympathy "You keep thinking that."
"Would've been an even greater sleep if I wasn't awoken so rudely..." Dalamir grumbled. He took a sip of his coffee, so concentrated on the task that it looked completely ridiculous.
"Wouldn't matter, you'd still be acting like some pinecone was shoved up your ass either way..." His brother sounded surpisingly annoyed.
It looked as if something inside Dalamir cracked; he twitched, but continued to drink his coffee silently.
Dimitri had to bite his lip to keep himself from smirking as he moved eggs to a plate along with some toast for Skylar. He left it on the table and poured himself some coffee. "I'll be sure to knock more politely next time, Dalamir." he said to the elf, kindly enough.
His eyes darted over to Dimitri. He took a sharp sip, and spoke "Thank you." into his mug.
Dimitri seemed satisfied with that, so he limped over to the stairs, calling up "Skylar!" he scratched the side of his face "Your food's gonna get cold!"
Skylar entered, walking down the stairs gracefully. He yawned, and rubbed his eyelids,"Awww, what a sweetheart." A sly smirk followed, as he grabbed his plate,"You better eat something too."
Dimitri frowned at him, shrugging as he started to clean the pan "I'm not hungry."
He returned the frown,"Well you seemed to have cooked for all of us...you sure?"
Dimitri gave him an honest enough smile over his shoulder. "Yes, I'm poisitive. I just don't get hungry in the morning that's all." he was in the process of washing his hands, and flinched when he noticed a cut on his thumb. He creased his brow as it bled. "Skylar, do you have a bandage? I cut myself on something." he wiped the red stuff on his pant leg, putting the clean pan back where he found it.
"Hey, of course. I wouldn't want the floor ruined." He was kidding, but sounded entirely serious, as he rushed to his medcal cabinet.
Dimitri refrained from rolling his eyes, the wound had ceased to sting and he was finding himself with little to do. This caused some stupid looking fidgeting.
Skylar slid the pack of bandages over the counter. The box was absolutely ridiculous; the label indicated the bright contents inside, of electric blue and hot pink,"Knock yourself out."
Rayan snickered,"Nice colour choice.."
Dimitri gritted his teeth distastefully, pulling a bandage around his thumb. It really did look fantastic against his colour palette of greys, blacks and other shades of an equally depressing hue. "Why, I feel as though I could do a musical number on the counter. A kick of the heels." he shoved his hand grumpily in his pocket, sliding the box back across the counter.
"Go! Do it!" Rayan cackled jokingly, scratching his head as he drew back into laughter.
Melody cracked a smile,"What a cute boy."
Dimitri pulled about the most disgusted expression he could muster and directed it at the two giggling entertainees. He scratched the side of his face, his glare simply bleeding hatred at the thought of any toe-tapping. "Um. No."
Rayan's face crumbled. He crinkled his nose at him, and threw his head up towards the ceiling,"Fine. Hmpf."
He actually rolled his eyes this time, his former chipper probably trapped beneath a rock struggling to chip. "Well, if you want a dance so badly, why don't you go and do one yourself?" he went and sat in a chair, feeling the weight of standing too long. "I'm sure you'd be very good at it."
Rayan looked over to him, and smiled wryly,"Fucking right I would."
"Hey, hey, no footprints on the counter, please!" Skylar joked, downing his food. He lent a thankful look to Dimitri,"This was really good, kid."
"Don't call me kid..." he said irritably, but loosened up enough to offer a smile. "No problem."
"Chef Dimitri," Melody said, wandering off a bit. She put her plate in the sink,"We should wake up happy in the morning more often. I haven't had anything that good in a while--"
"Your coffee stinks." Dalamir stepped on the moment.
Dimitri grimaced deeply at him; despite the effort, he stood and moved in front of Dalamir and pulled the coffee from his hands. "Maybe if you hadn't poured it before it was done it wouldn't taste so shitty." he poured the brown liquid down the sink and almost slammed the mug on the counter. He pulled the good coffee from the maker and poured the elf a new drink. The smell almost nauseated him. He handed the mug back to him, wrinkling his nose "Try adding some sugar or milk to it, asshole. It might taste better."
Dalamir glared pins and needles at him, fingers clinging aorund the mug. It looked like he wanted to break it,"...how kind." He said lowly.
"Good God, someone please pull out the wedge up his ass." Melody walked back from the sink, and thwaped him over the head.
Dimitri felt like pulling back Melody's hand, balling it into a fist, and striking Dalamir again a number of times. Instead, he wandered back to his seat and sat down again, glaring grouchily at an unlucky spot on the floor.
Dalamir flinched for a second, and then sighed, putting his coffee down. He somehow pulled off a mood breaking smile,"Nice sleep?"
Melody's temper began to crack; she could feel her knuckles crack.
Rayan of course, was pleasantly suprised,"Very nice!"
She rolled her eye.
Dimitri made a similar gesture, pulling himself to his feet, again. He almost groaned. "I'm going to take a shower." he announced, turning toward the stairs. He stopped, though, turning to Skylar "May I?"
"Why, of course! Being clean sounds wonderful." Skylar exclaimed. He nodded over to the bathroom,"Towel's are in the bottom left corner."
Dimitri cracked a tiny smile "Thank-you." and wandered over to the bathroom, appreciating silently the kindness.
