Competition Rules
Here you will find the Festivals rules that apply to the competitions.
GOAL
The goal of this project is to create the best pages about each festival.
For this we hold contests for best image, poetry, photography, description etc.
We don't want to create the best 'typical' page about the Festival, but we want to be open to all kinds of interpretation
s!
CONTESTANTS: GENERAL ENTRY RULES
NO STOLEN ART!
Entries must be created by Elftowners and posted here by the original artist. Which means, no matter how much you might like a particular piece of art on somebody's house, you are not allowed to add it here. This includes random art from the net too. MAKE YOUR OWN DARN ART, DON'T STEAL THEM AND TRY TO CLAIM THEM AS YOUR OWN! That makes us angry, very angry indeed.
Everything in this project has to follow the Uploading Art Rules!
IMAGES
A. ALL IMAGES MUST BE UPLOADED TO ELFTOWN!
To upload your image full-size you can use the feature 'Upload a folder of images' that is shown on your house.
This feature allows you to upload one, multiple images or zip-files in their original size to a wikipage.
<URL:upload_zip.html>
Once you click this link you can follow the instructions. See also uploading images.
B. QUALITY ISSUES
Please put forth your best effort and the best quality, i.e.
- no drawings on lined notebook paper
- no bad pictures or scans of your drawings
C. PROOF PHOTO
For each photo entered, you must submit a proof photo. Plus, if you submit an edited picture you must also add the unedited picture, unless the edit is minor, like brightness tweaks etc.
WRITING
A. QUALITY ISSUES
Written entries must be written in proper English.
B. LENGTH
Poems must not be more than fifty (50) lines in length, minus empty lines.
Stories must not be more than five hundred (500) words in length.
C. DESCRIPTION
The description of a Festival has to be written by you.
If you base your description on texts you found elsewhere, you have to name your sources.
The idea of the description is not to collect sources with information. Instead the idea is to write an introduction about the Festival, that informs people as best as possible inside Elftown's premises.
STAFF: COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS
1. FESTIVAL
The competition must be about an existing festival.
2. CRITERIA
The competition must have clear criteria on:
- Theme
- Medium (art/poetry/photography/etc)
- Amount of entries per contestant
- Deadline (date/entries/contestants)
- Process of judging (who judge on how many winners)
3. THEME
As a try-out the theme should be the Festival itself in general.
This leaves more room for interpretation in case some people celebrate it differently than others.
Plus, the more difficult we make the theme, the more people might not bother to enter. We are seeing this trend more and more on official contests as well.
4. DEADLINE
Plan your deadline at least a week before the festival takes place.
You will need the time to organise: To close the contest and create the poll, to get enough votes for a fair judgement, and to organise your contest to display the winning entries.
Of course photography may be an exception, so that members can take pictures on the day itself!
5. FESTIVALS
Your contest page has to link back to Festivals.
6. ENTRY-PAGES
Contests have to have entry pages to put the entries on.
Each medium will have its own entry page.
There should be a wiki where entries from previous years can be saved!
You could also add a year number (2008 etc.) to each entry-page. That way you can save the theme and the year together with the entrance without much effort.
7. PROCESS OF JUDGING
Judging takes place through a public poll, either on Festivals or on Mainstreet.
Votes should not be anonymous, to prevent contestants from cheating.
REWARDS
1. BADGE/RIBBON
The contest can have a badge or ribbon as reward, which the winner can put in the description.
It's possible to create a general festival reward, but it's also possible to create a personal festival reward.
The contest creator will have to organise that, either by creating it or by getting someone to create it.
2. FESTIVAL
The best entries of the contest will be featured on the contest page.
This way we will eventually create the best page about a certain festival.
