Flouresce - Vincent

Good Bond

Vincent scribbled hastily on the parchment he was leaning over. He was getting there… he knew that he was slowly making progress towards this possible new medicine. There was this new herb he had recently stumbled across—and the potential it held was endless. It was the dosage… the dosage he couldn’t quite get that right. What had he used before to mix with it? How much had it been again?

Vincent sighed heavily and sat back, letting his head fall back against the chair. His crimson eyes searched the ceiling helplessly. This would have been so much easier had his research not been lost in that fire… A month ago Vincent’s laboratory back in Xidan had suffered a major blow. A fire had broke out and destroyed everything—leaving nothing but crumbling black carcass of despair. Fortunately no one was hurt, but unfortunately years and years of research had gone up in smoke along with that room. The demon, though he wouldn’t like to admit it, was almost positive the fire had been intentional arson.

Vincent had spent the last month, in the sanctuary of his family’s home, trying to remember all his lost research. It was hard—at his home all he had were notes here and there, little bread crumbs to the research he had spent so much time on. He was being forced to re-grow the herbs he had so tenderly and lovingly raised. Most of them were just little green buds while others seemed to not want to grow at all. It was a painful process.

A gentle knock on the door jolted the weary scientist, “Come in,” he called, turning towards the door.

Flouresce popped her head in, “Hey, Vinny. I heard you’ve been holed up here for awhile now. You should come out and get some sunshine… or something to eat.”

Vincent blinked blankly at her, turning to frown at his paperwork. “I have too many things to do…”

“Hey, listen.” The crimson-haired woman stepped into the room and leaned against the wall, her hands folded behind her. She tilted her head and smiled, “You’ve been working non-stop since you got here, Vincent. I know what you’re doing is important, but your health is more important. Look at you.”

Vincent laughed quietly, shaking his head. He rubbed his eyes and fixed his glasses. He didn’t want to look in the mirror—he had been avoiding his reflection for several weeks now. It was best not to see that sallow tired face begging for rest. He had to ignore all of that. This research… it could save thousands of lives. What did a few shirked hours of sleep have on that?

“Please, Vincent. For me?” Flouresce moved to crouch before the other and gently took the others delicate hands. She couldn’t help but notice how Vincent resembled their father in every way—and not just physically. His total disregard for his own health for the ‘betterment’ of society was evident as well. Flouresce could never understand why Yami spent so many hours slaving over the happiness of those who hated him so much. Vincent, though well liked, had picked up on their fathers bad health habits. It was hard to watch. “Come on.” She stood and forcefully pulled the small man from the chair he was sitting in.

Vincent seemed to struggle briefly for a moment before he sighed. The young man ran his fingers through his black locks, doing his best to straighten them. He was wearing a wrinkled white button up shirt and black pants that had to be fastened tightly with a belt. He looked like any other research from Xidan—overworked and miserable. It was amazing that the institution still had enthusiastic young men and women applying for jobs. Many of them wouldn’t make it more than a year under Xidan strict policies.

“Come on, out with you.” Flouresce began to usher her little brother from the room. He gave several pleading glances back at his work, but he didn’t attempt to return to his work. “There, that wasn’t so bad, now was it?” she closed the door behind them and then reached out to put an arm around the short demon. “I think it would be most appropriate if you would take a stroll through the garden. Papa is a little sad you haven’t been there to admire it. He’s been working really hard on it since you’ve been home. He thinks that it’ll brighten you up a little, you know?”

Vincent laughed quietly, “Oh yeah…?” He wasn’t really listening, no matter how hard he wished he was. He was trying so hard to remember… what else had he forgotten? What other research would be lost forever?

He was so deep in thought that he flinched badly when they stepped outside. The sun was high in the sky, shinning brilliantly on the flourishing garden. Pinks, purples, yellows and red greeted him as his eyes adjusted to the light. A delicate, sweet smell hit him and he subconsciously took a deep breath. The warmth—it was gentle, soothing. He closed his eyes against the sun, lifting his face towards the azure heavens.

In an instant all of his worries were gone. All he had needed was a gentle hand to guide him back to the world he so enjoyed. Without a break here and there, Vincent would probably lose himself in his research like so many of his colleagues made the mistake of doing.

He was lucky to have such a caring older sister like Flouresce.

A/N: Story Bond 14/81 of a project I'm working on.

Vincent is very personable and likable, but because he gets that obsession like his father, he can get moments of being purely neglectful to his own health and be kind of... hermit like. He needs people to remove him from his obsession for him to remember that he doesn't want to be that guy who never leaves his laboratory. It's a damn good thing he has family like Flouresce who literally drag him away from the insanity.

Flouresce, I think, is your typical big sister. She likes to make sure her brothers and sisters are healthy and happy. I think that's a good quality of hers XD
