I Want An INATH Character...
How Does This Affect My Rank?

I am an adventurer. How does Inath affect my Rank?
It does so in a big way, and it's a whole different system of character development than the standard d20 level, but it has to do with D&D's Divine Rank of
'Deities and Demigods'.
In a purely d20 sense of things, if you have your base rank (or 'class'), and it meets all the prerequisites, you can typically take on a prestige rank, or gain levels as a member of some form of guild.
INATH is similar to this, in that you do need to meet certain physical, mental, spiritual and ability-orient
ed requirements to survive the process of becoming an immortal (though as in the case with dragons, this is not as large of a danger to the lineages of magical bloodlines). You can also choose to progress EITHER as an Inath Caste Progression, or as a natural level progression, though as most players find, Inath progression is simply a more productive way to stay on top of your game, even if it does cause you to lose out on a few rank-related abilities that would otherwise gain if you pooled experience points into a profession or prestige guild rank.
To exemplify this idea, I will progress a 5th-level character who only barely meets the requirements of the first tier of the Inath Caste, Ghimhara (pronounced "Gim-hah-rah"), the tier of Ketra, which is like a neophyte among demigods, and not even truly immortal in flesh. This 5th-level Rogue named Bindald of Lanswath is also a member of a prestige guild which has honored him with the further education of another two prestige levels, making him a 7th-level-equivalent character, and meeting all of the prerequisites of becoming an Inath caste. This rogue meets with the clergy in the Temple of Loki, who instruct him in the secret ways of their faith, the ways of the God of Mischief and Chaos. He learns, fasts, meditates, and receives cleansings and blessings. When he is ready, he is initiated in a rite known as inception, where he is affined to a platinum shard that was blessed at the First Sunrise, an event in the history books as a holy day which brought great luck to the people. They bind the platinum shard to his body and its energies seek their way through the body's centers and into the soul in this incredible ritual, which typically lasts over a period of three days. Those incepted in certain ways find themselves subject to an affliction of the mind, body, and spirit which can seem like death, illness, or near-death, and others simply pass into a new stage in life with a lightened heart and a goal in mind for the future. Bindald's inception goes well, even though he did feel physically ill for two days and nights out of the four in which he is cared for by the clergy of Loki's temple. Bindald is taught the Inner Ways, secret traditions of the faith which tell tales, hints and lore of the path that has been set before him, and he is sent back into the world. Bindald begins as the first tier of Ghimhara, 'Ketra', and is known as a Ketryte. Bindald travels the world and the cosmos, learning more and more secrets of the universe and the many-realms, and eventually comes to be the second tier of Imburith, Pyrurin, and is known as a Pyrulisant, before he finally begins to find his way in the pantheons, when his search for self has earned him the divine rank of deityhood.
There are many ways and reasons for choosing or being forced to become an Inath character. Sometimes it is seen as punishment, being a way of controlling a civilization under an iron rule of demonic forces, and at other times and in other places, it can be seen as a great honour, a rite of passage seen as a gift from the many heavens. In other places, and in many lands prior to the Epicene, it is a method of survival; a way in which sanctuary might be found from the coming Oblivion prophecied in ancient tomes.
