The GRAMMATICUM PRIMEAVAL

Tome of Prophecies and the Lore of the Language Aleph,
the mystical Words of Arcana and Creation

http://elftown.eu/_grammaticum%20primeaval

The 'Grammaticum Primeaval', sometimes called the "grammitum" or "grattica", "Biblio Prima", Book of the First Words, the First Tome, the First Scripture, Book of Aleph, Book of Visions, or simply "the Great Book".

The true, physical tome has never been recorded as a real item or object of veneration, and any attempts to claim the possession of the true book have come to be proven false or misleading, and no singular book has ever been recorded to have been the real deal. It exists as a sort of legend that many scholars and beings of near-divine status have been in search of for many eons, according to prophecy and ancient legend. The First Words, Aleph, sometimes called the Words of Creation, have been found in small portions through excruciating and diligent searching and intensely dedicated spiritual divination. The Words of Creation are sometimes heard floating around the heads of the most devoted clerics, written by the most envisioning druids, researched by the most incredible spellcasters, spoken first by the great heroes and archetypes of racial heritage, and carried down through secret lineages and ancient Orders. Sometimes a very devoted scholar, priest or mage will find that their greatest ally of the Outer Realms can afford to pass on to their subjects a great word of Aleph, a magical language of thought, concept and pure creation by some means, patronage, or allegiance.

Aleph is a language that has shaped the very form of all other languages, including that of celestials, demons, devils, and the most ancient dragons and paragons of creation. It is the embodiment of pure concept, thought-forms brought through the veil of communication, given a wavelength of sound, spoken, written, and manifested through the very folds of reality we all perceive without error. When Aleph is spoken aloud, it can have many differing sounds, including but not limited to: chimes, hissing, varying words of other or more ancient languages, thought-sounds or thought-forms, ethereal, astral, or shade countereffects, and telepathic words or sounds. Experiencing a word or sound in a non-audible manner is not uncommon when hearing true Aleph, though trying to re-speak the word or sounds without the proper training and protocol produces no similar result, no matter which word or sound was utilized in a creationary manner. Some have tried to claim that Aleph and the Words of Creation are not one and the same, because of their origins or legends pertaining to their use and link to the Arcane Arts and the Divine Arts. No such claim has ever been proven true, but that has not kept some from believing that the Words of Creation are handed down from the Gods themselves, and the Aleph language is an ancient thought-speech of Arcane and metaphysical thought-forms. No distinction between dialects has ever been found, and no specific Aleph word is confined to any given grammatical restrictions. Often strings of many Aleph words have been found to be unnecessary, since there exist many single-word phrases and sounds that serve just as usefully. Aleph is not a common language, it has no cultural hold, and no mortal or well-known immortal is said to have any true given knowledge of the language. It is often kept highly secretive, and only handed down through close-knit guilds, kabals, organizations, or lineages. It is uncommon in an even more uncommon way than just as a mostly-unknown speech. It is also completely unhelpful as a purely SPOKEN or WRITTEN language. Aleph has two or more counterparts to its speech: sound, mentality, empowerment, somatics, focuses, and many others that are for the most part unresearchable and unknown.

2006-02-28 [xido]: This is for all those D&D lovers out there who are also linguists... ;)

2007-11-03 [xido]: Information for the following campaign elements will be separated as follows:
- Jashnia and its Cosmology
- Inath
- the Epicene
- non-Epicene, non-Jashnian Inath campaigns

These campaign setting elements will be split as follows:
- all OGL Content (Game-applicable statistics and openly viewable content) will be posted to the website, http://www.dandwiki.com - this is due to the material being D&D v3.5 oriented, and because of the potential publication applicability in the future.
- all personalized, unique, WFR-oriented, character-created, non-D&D, non-RPGA, Elftown and non-Elftown WFR content as it applies to the previous elements will be hosted here on Elftown, in the WFR-specific wikipages and settings.

Inath and its inherent portions are part of a potential publication currently unrepresented by any party except [xido] himself. The Grammaticum Primeaval and all its inherent portions are currently represented by Paul Lapidus at New Funtiers, http://www.newfuntiers.com .
