2004-04-20 [Mephistan]: I though fauns were the followers of dionysus, being partial to a good time, wine and lovemaking. They were part-man and part-goat. Satyrs were mischeivous and more malevolent creatures being half man and half beast (any beast). It was the romans that combined both fauns and satyrs into the same creature, leaving us with human torsos, horns and goat legs and a mix of traits from both the previous incarnations. Roman satyrs were attendants of bacchus, the woodland god (i think)
