Sierra - Vyse

Good Bond

It was a beautiful day to be out on sea. The sky was blue, the clouds were wispy white trails above and the sea gulls were bellowing obnoxiously as usual around the ship’s sails. The sea was calm, but even so the ship still rocked sluggishly with each little dip of the ocean. Despite the sparkling sea as far as the eye could see, one particular man seemed to not be very interested in the glistening blue at all.

Vyse felt his stomach lurch again and he gripped the ships railing tighter, trying to fight down the nauseating feeling creeping up in his stomach. He decided very early on that this was probably the stupidest thing he had ever done. He had decided to take on an assignment escorting a cargo ship across the Delta Sea—a two month journey. Much to his dismay he had learned quite quickly that he did not take well to the ever churning sea. While most had already recovered from their sea-sickness, Vyse was still struggling to keep down his meals. It was a rather unpleasant experience.

“Hey, how are you feeling?”

Vyse looked over his shoulder and then nodded slightly to his sister. Sierra was smiling brightly, looking much like she was unaffected by the same sickness that haunted him all day and night. He leaned against the railing again and let out a shaky sigh, “I don’t know how much I can handle this,” he admitted. He ran his fingers through his green-hair and it seemed that his face was slowly starting to mirror that color.

“Just keep your eyes on the horizon, Vyse.”

He glared at her, “Was that suppose to be funny?”

Sierra laughed, “No, no. I’m serious. Don’t stare down at your feet like that, it’ll make it worse. And drink this.” She handed him a small chipped cup filled with what appeared to be ginger ale. “Mr. Seoul sends his sympathy’s.”

Vyse grumbled and took the cup before giving it a disgusted look. “Is this really going to help?”

“Of course. Why would I lie to you?” Sierra smirked, leaning against the railing with her back to the ocean. She crossed her arms and let her eyes rise up to stare at the full white sails above.

She was not hired for her fighting—though she was very capable of doing so. Instead she had been hired as the ships doctor. Having a pretty face often drew some lingering stares from the crew, but for the most part the men seemed more than ready to cater to her every need. She found it amusing, but she often would find her little brother as a defense against having to stand around idly with some wide-eyed slobbering men. Vyse was basically her escape-goat. She was happy to have him aboard, even if he was suffering so terrible. She wasn’t a least bit concerned about how selfish that was.

Vyse, however, had been hired for his fighting. The sea route had become more dangerous over the last few months due to drought and other natural disasters that forced many ships out of service, leaving the remaining few and far. The pirates had started to work their way back into the seas. Piracy was so bad that Mr. Seoul had wasted not time in hiring over twenty extra hands—all specifically for defending the ship. Vyse had been one of these, but unexpectedly, the promising young man had been all but knocked out of commission with seasickness. Fortunately they had not encountered any pirates, but that did not in the least ease Mr. Seoul’s expectations for the young lad.

“I told you right before we left, Vyse, that you weren’t going to take well to ship-traveling. It’s not in your blood.”

His brown eyes narrowed fiercely, “What? And you were?”

“Dad traveled by sea several times, you know. With Uncle Ryshar and Uncle Mathais.” She said it matter-of-factly. Even though Ryshar and Mathais weren’t in any way shape or form related to her father or their family, they had stuck with the demon for several hundred years. They were as close to blood as Yami would ever know. That was good enough for this tight-knit family.

Vyse sighed, “Yeah, yeah. Sure. This really doesn’t affect you at all?” He gestured towards the gently swaying ship. Sierra shook her head. Vyse sighed again and took a sip of the ginger ale. “You know… I am going to be so happy when I get to put these boots back on dry land.”

Sierra laughed quietly, “Oh yeah? What about the trip back?”

Vyse’s face scrunched up with disgust. “Look… if… if I don’t get better sometime soon—“ Both he and Sierra were fairly certain that the Earth Nymph would probably not recover from this seasickness fully, “we buy a couple of horses and we travel back. Take the long way. It’ll be like… our little adventure.”

Sierra’s fingers drummed thoughtfully against her left elbow and she stared quietly across the deck. “We’ll have to beg someone to send a letter to back to the family saying we’ll be a month or so longer.”

Vyse snorted with laughter and dropped his head down between his arms that were resting still. The movement how ever, made him dizzy and he quickly raised his head up and desperately searched the horizon to find his senses again. “Yeah... like that’ll be hard for you. Just pick one of these dolts out, bat your eyelashes and say ‘please’ a little more sexy than usual.”

It was Sierra’s turn to laugh. She elbowed the other sharply in the side and Vyse chuckled. The man rubbed his aching side and gave her a ‘you-know-I’m-right’ look. She laughed out loud again, not really too surprised that Vyse was promoting her to use her feminine allure aboard an all male-ship (with the exception of herself of course). His simple reasoning was always worth a good laugh.

“Right, I’ll do that. Now which dolt should I pick?” she couldn’t help but keep the laughter out of her voice. Vyse turned about and together the two began to plot their messenger. After a few good laughs they had settled on Mr. Seoul’s nerdy little assistant. He would be easy to pursue to deliver a letter to their parents—especially if he had no idea that the man on the receiving end of the letter was none other than the infamous Prince Yami of Aurora Kingdom.

Sierra grinned at Vyse who grinned back and saluted her. “Remember, like this.” He batted his eyelashes the best he could while pursing his lips and attempting to look as feminine and attractive as he could. He failed miserably and Sierra laughed harder.

Sierra was looking forward to their adventure home.

A/N:Story Bond 17/81 of a project I'm working on.

I re-wrote their story bond because I didn't like it at all. Both ideas had Vyse going/being on a ship involved, but originally Sierra was telling Vyse he wasn't going to like being on the ship... and then Scout was secretly going with Vyse. It made no sense and I laughed at it when I was done and then promptly erased it all and started again. They were actually really difficult to think of a scene together. DX

Vyse is a mercenary but for the most part he sticks to land. He's a nymph, but one of his parents were an 'earth' type... so him plus the sea is an awful combination. He's typically more annoyed and snappy when he's sick, but I think that he would most definitely be happy that 1) he has someone he trusts along with him 2) that someone is a friend-type and can be motherly at the same time. He appreciates the siblings he gets along with.

Sierra... Sierra can fight, if you read the Miles - Sierra story bond you know this, but she doesn't like to fight much. She's more of a caring doctorly sort of person and would much rather be there to stop fights then to promote them. She is known to use her looks to get what she wants... learned that from her father.
