Skill Teaching Guide

Something you should probably know is that characters can actually teach skills to each other. Here its how it's done, you spend an hour (Lemire time) each day teaching the other character a particular skill you have until the other character learns it. The time it takes for the character to learn the skill is decided by the GM based on the following criteria.

- The way it's taught
- The teacher's approach to the skill
- The student's approach to the skill.
- The surroundings at atmosphere when teaching.
- The materials to practice with. (For example trying to teach Handle Sword without a sword.)

The standard monetary cost of teaching skills is as follows:
Tier 3: 150 GP
Tier 2: 250 GP
Tier 1: 500 GP

Teaching a Spell

First off, when teaching a spell the student must have the skill to learn spells of that colour and level. If he doesn't you'll have to teach him the skill first.

Second, a student cannot learn a spell opposed to their element or opposed to any spell they already have. (Eg. Learning blue magic completely rules out learning Red Magic)

To teach a spell you must spend 1 hour of teaching a day for each level the spell has. Each of this hours consumes an amount of MP equal to the casting cost of the spell.

Standard monetary cost for learning magic:
Lvl 1 Magic - 250g
  Lvl 1 Spell - 75g
Lvl 2 Magic - 250g
  Lvl 2 Spell - 150g
Lvl 3 Magic - 500g
   Lvl 3 Spell - 300g
Lvl 4 Magic - 500g
   Lvl 4 Spell - 500g

2004-06-16 [Shining light]: NB: it's spelled 'taught'. you must have accidentaly added an h.

2004-06-16 [Duredhel]: Sorry ^_^'

2006-01-05 [Silverbullet]: So hey, seeing as our new party (#7) is in a mages' guild and attending classes and all, that means they'll probably learn a couple of things this way, right?

2007-05-29 [Silverbullet]: Is there any guideline for GMs as to exactly how long it takes to learn a skill.. preferably more specific than "The time it takes for the character to learn the skill is decided by the GM"

2007-05-29 [Veltzeh]: I'm going to just say that it's common sense. When in doubt, I'll read it and decide. :D

2007-05-29 [Silverbullet]: The ever-powerfull Veltz-Veto!

2007-06-12 [Lepellier]: Maybe we should put up a guide here for how much it costs for an NPC to teach a skill... o.0

2007-06-12 [Veltzeh]: Like how? It's the same as for a PC, but the GM can just decide to skip the teaching part...

2007-06-12 [Veltzeh]: Oh, you meant the monetary cost. :P Let's see...

2007-06-12 [Lepellier]: Well, NPC's normally charge an amount of gold to teach a skill.

2007-06-12 [Lepellier]: Isn't it 150 for lvl 1 magic, and like 75g/lvl 1 spell? just thinking so I can put down the magic costs too... :)

2007-06-12 [Veltzeh]: Level 1 magic is a tier 2 skill, so it costs 250. and yeah, the spells go 75, 150, 300 and 500 (just took that from the enchanting costs, but it looks a lot like it goes like that).

2007-06-12 [Lepellier]: I'll have to add that sometime...
