T w o B i r d s W i t h O n e S t o n e

There was a light rumble of thunder, as the rain continued to pour down. Within the jungle, Moroni and his men led the way, with the Ninjas bringing up the rear. Richard and Kaitlin walked along side, their new modern clothing soaked. The search for Brian had been futile, and there was still no sign of Jon; if he really was the reason for the nearby time-disturbance (which they still had failed to discover). It didn’t help matters with Aero and Kenzi’s recent disappearance either.

“Something is up.” Richard said, slightly shivering. “What happened to Kenzi? Why would she disappear?”

Kaitlin shook her head. “Maybe it’s just a series of coincidences. Jon could be anywhere, but Brian obviously ran away.”

“But what about Kenzi? I’m beginning to think that this is no longer coincidence.”

Kaitlin shrugged.

“You’re right about Jon, though. Let’s just focus on finding that time-disturbance. I have a feeling it’ll link everything together.”

The Book of Jon

Chapter 6

The rains have stopped falling. Oh, as a side note; my wife has died. After the rains stopped and the animals had gotten off, the miracle they were under stopped. The lions chased some buffalo, they then ran and started a stampede, and, well… I leave it to your imagination from there.

I worried for my friends, though, and how they were doing. So I did pray unto the Lord saying; O my lord, keep my friends in your heart and under your wing. Guide them in all of their ways; pour out upon them blessings and gifts to them.

The army emerged from the jungle, followed closely by Kaitlin, Richard, and the Ninjas. They were walking up another steep hill that rose high above the jungle. The rain had let up some during the day, and now patches of blue sky were beginning to form amid the mass of gray clouds. The ground was still very moist and slippery though.

Just as they reached the peak of the hill, Richard titled back his head, and caught a glimmer of something in the sky. He stopped in his tracks, and searched, trying to catch a second glance at what it was he saw. There was another shimmer, and he focused his eyes on it. Whatever it was, it was small, and was falling towards the ground rapidly. His eyes went wide when he realized it was falling towards him. Seconds later, it hit him square on the head, knocking him over.

“Oww!” Richard rubbed his head, and slowly sat up to see everyone had stopped.

“What is that?” Kaitlin said.

Richard looked over, and saw that both she and Moroni were staring at something on the ground. A quick look and Richard realized that they were looking at the strange object that had hit him on the head. He crawled forward and picked it up. As he looked it over, he gasped. It was a shot-glass.

“Where did it come from?” Kaitlin asked, now realizing what it was.

“It fell from the sky…” Richard rubbed the sore spot on his head. “Man, was this thing made of Lead or something…? Whoa!”

Suddenly, a silvery gray liquid began bubbling up inside the glass, and squirted everywhere. It was as if it was being fueled by some invisible source. Richard tried to hold the glass steady, but it jerked around, covering Moroni’s men in the mysterious material.

“Whoa! WHOA! Stop!” Just as he’d spoken, the liquid stopped coming.

“Richard, you said that it felt like it was made of Lead?” Kaitlin was examining the liquid that was also all over the ground. “That stuff almost looks like liquid Lead!”

Richard looked wide-eyed from the bubbling metal on the ground, to the strange glass he held in his hand.

The Book of Jon

Chapter 7

And thus begins the seventh chapter of Jon; being temporarily translated into the heavens workshop, working with the angels to create the gifts which art to give to my friends in aid of their journeys through the Book of Mormon.

Well, Richard’s is sent; next, Kenzi. Do you think that she'll like the fire blasting ring we’re giving her? And how about Brian’s gift of a sword that sucks souls and makes the wielder their zombie master? Will these help those travelers, my friends, who need all the help they can get? And with these worries, the seventh chapter of the Book of Jon ends.

There was another flash of bright light, as some nuclear weapon detonated in the distance. It must have been quite far, because it took several minutes before Kenzi and Aero heard the blast. The two had wandered down into the ruins of the unknown city. There was little indication of where or when they were, as all that remained were the burning skeletons of the once tall buildings and debris strewn streets. Balls of fire could be seen raining down from sky, like meteors from space.

Every now and then they passed a ragged stranger, who seemed to pay little or no attention to the mysterious girl and her jaguar. Kenzi tried to keep her distance from them, in case they decided her untouched clothing looked much nicer than their rags.

They ventured farther and farther into the city, occasionally finding buildings that were mostly intact, but still no signs of where they were. This was truly an apocalypse. Right now they were walking down a wide avenue Kenzi guessed was once downtown. A cracked and crumbling statue lay up head. Kenzi looked down at it as her and Aero passed by.

She paused, and looked more closely. For some reason it captivated her, and she reached out to touch the crumbling stone. At that moment, a small metal object fell from above and hit her square on that hand. She jerked it back quickly, and rubbed it. After nursing the bruise for a second she looked and saw that there was a welt. She looked down for the mysterious object that had hit her, and found it lying near her feet.

Kenzi picked it up, and slowly examined it. It was a silver ring, and had strange markings on the side. However, it was a perfect fit, and had some sort of violet jewel on top. She looked it over again, and smiled to herself.

Brian was smiling also. Under the concealment of his invisibility cloak, the entire army, Ninjas, and Kaitlin and Richard couldn’t see him. Behind him, also under their own invisibility cloaks, were some more of the Gadianton robbers he’d previously met (or as Brian had started calling them, cloaky robbers). They had been tracking them for a day now, and had finally caught up with Moroni’s advancing patrol. One thing that puzzled him was that he couldn’t see Kenzi or that jaguar of hers…Arnold…Nero…? Whatever she called it.

Brian also had a secret weapon; a silver sword with amazing abilities. It had fallen from the sky one day during their search for the Gang, and after experimenting with it—stabbing one of the cloaky robbers—he found that it was a zombie-wielding sword. Who ever you stabbed was under your power. Brian was looking directly at Moroni…

They were getting closer now; almost ten feet away. Then, just as Moroni set his foot down next to Brian’s hiding place, the silver sword came out quickly, as though floating in mid air, and went straight into Moroni’s chest. Moroni froze, and his eyes turned milky white. Brian threw up the cloak, briefly revealing himself to Richard and Kaitlin, and pulled Moroni in.

“BRIAN!” Both Richard and Kaitlin shouted.

They lunged forward at him, but too late, the cloak came back down, followed by the sound of running footsteps.

“Stop them!” One of Moroni’s men yelled out.

Moroni’s army and the Ninjas pulled out their bows, and began shooting off arrows into the field where they had seen Brian. One actually hit a Gadianton, and he dropped like a stone, tripping over his own cloak.

Richard and Kaitlin quickly ran over, and examined the strange clothing. On one side it was somewhat translucent, but on the other it was completely transparent. Both stared at in wonder and shock. One of the Ninjas looked down too, and spit on the Gadianton.

“Erg…! Disappearing cloaks!” He said angrily.

“What?” Kaitlin asked confused.

“These are satanic devices that allow the Gadiantons to move with secrecy…and now they’ve captured our general!”

One of Moroni’s men came running up. “Who are they, and…what is that?!” He said, pointing to the cloak.

“Wait, you don’t know what a Gadianton robber is?” Richard asked.

“Richard, the Gadiantons didn’t actually appear in the Book of Mormon until the Book of Helaman, remember?” Kaitlin said, looking back up.

The soldier now looked very confused. The Ninja, on the other hand, sighed. “We have secretly known about this threat for awhile now…but didn’t know they’d attack so soon.”

“Great! And now Brian’s got control over Moroni somehow! If we don’t stop him, the war chapters of Alma will be changed! CRAP!”

Just as Richard had said this, the small glass in his hands began shaking again, and a new liquid began squirting everywhere…a brownish liquid.

“Oh crap! Stop!”

Just as before, the glass stopped on command, but not before covering Moroni’s men with a fine layer of it. Richard looked up from the glass, and smiled sheepishly at the soldiers.
