For many of us, The Dark Crystal will bring back lovely childhood memories of wonder and fantasy. The DVD has a few special features and the original widescreen presentation. For die hard fans - you won't be disappointed. For newbies...You will be caught up in the magic like the rest of us!
The Story
The story follows Jen, a gelfing through his journey to save the world as he knows it. Due to a prophecy that proclaimed that a Gelfling would be the ruin to all Skeksis (Resident Bad Guys) - the rest of his race were cruelly slaughtered, yet Jen was rescued by the Master of the Mystics (Resident Good guys).
The Dark Crystal cracked 1,000 years ago and it is up to Jen to find the missing shard and reunite it with the Crystal.
In the meantime, a great conjunction is about to pass - where all three suns will be aligned. The Dark Crystal must be healed before this is to happen, or else the land will pass forever into the rule of evil.

12 Page Collector's Book
It has a little bit of info on Jim Henson written by his daughter, plus some character sketches. It is worth a look, but you see some of this on the DVD anyway.
Character Drawings and Profiles
Drawings and concept sketches of the characters and races in the film.
These are all interesting to look at, but it would have been nice to have some background music to listen to.
'The Mithra Treatment'
A text gallery that describes the original concept for the film. It is sometimes a little hard to follow, as The Dark Crystal has developed from what we read, but some parts are still very recognisable. Nevertheless, it is a very interesting read!
Storyboards
A couple of storyboards, I think mostly from the scene where the Podling Party is crashed by the Garthim.

Documentary and WELL WORTH WATCHING!
You see concept sketches by Brian Froud, Hear from Jim Henson and Frank Oz, hear how the evolution of the gelfing 'look' came about, how the puppets worked...
It is truly amazing and by far the most outstanding feature on the DVD.
