The Dark Knight

featured movie review by veteran Heralder [TheRogue]

So, I get this invite last night, to preview (Super Early Nerd Special) The Dark Knight with myself and about 4 people in the theatre at 12am (movie doesn't officially release until tonight)

Did I go? You bet your sweet ass I did!

I'm not going to go into any lengthy diatribe about the movie suffice to say that it is hands down across the world and a hundred Snapples the absolute best comic book movie I've ever seen to date. It blows Iron Man out of the water, and destroys every other Batman movie including characters without blinking an eye.

Heath Ledger was in a dark place in his method acting mind when he did this performance. There is no trace of Heath anywhere in this movie. It is only Joker. And I'm here to tell you folks; that mutherfucker is SCARY. I'm talking go home and under your skin why am I still thinking about him scary. His performance really does deserve an Oscar. All bias aside, yes i'm a Bats Fan, etc.. this movie is not a 'comic book' movie.. it is an epic Crime drama on par with the greatest crime stories you've seen. Jack Nicholson who? No. Heath is the new Joker (sad that he died, but glad it was his crowning shining masterpiece of a performance and we got to see it)

Some worry about Heath's ability to portray Joker 'as good as Jack'...Folks.. Jack didn't frighten you. Jack didn't make you squirm in your seat. JACK didn't make you believe for one instant that this hyperintelligent homicidal sociopath could be someone real right now, doing exactly the same thing with NO Batman to shoot trinkets and toys at him...Think about it when you listen to Heath's Joker speak. Think about what he says, and ask yourself if it could happen in real life right now.. when you get the answer I got, you will understand why he is so goddamn scary..

Harvey Dent's character was perfectly portrayed, but it wasn't hard to knock Tommy Lee Jones out of the 'Two Face" chair...again.. no pink makeup, no "Lairs" with half and half beds and couches, drinking from two glasses on each side, with floozy women dressed in feathers on one side, and bondage leather on the other.. No folks.. get ready...you will be morbidly drawn into the world of good and evil, and the truth about human emotion....

All the characters were relatable, real, and full of depth.. more depth than I've ever seen in a comic book movie, usually cramming 2.5 hours of shit into means cutting corners on character development, and you don't relate at all with the main characters. (Hulk 1, Spiderman 3, Punisher, Blade, Superman Returns, etc.. )
Not this time.. you get plenty to chew on about each character this time (important ones, anyhow.. supporting characters like Alfred and Lucious are kind of simple anyhow.

anyroad,

Go see this movie folks.. get the popcorn, get the soda (I suggest nursing a small soda so you don't have to get up to pee or you will truly miss something) get the nachos, get the candy, sit down, don't bitch about too many previews, wait patiently, and prepare yourself to be cast into the pits of Gotham City, and get a face full of what a Batman movie should have been. Dark, gritty, oozing from every pore real people, real humanity, real chaos, and probably the creepiest and best portrayal of what it means to be a human being, and how no matter how good you think you are, you have your limits, and can be just as evil, as you can be good.

"You can either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain"
                    Harvey Dent

Okay.. so it was lengthy.. you will appreciate this movie as much as I did. And if you didn't like it.. then you are stupid and shouldn't talk to cool people. LOL
