This is the page were you can come and look up some of the more trickier tems and phrases used in Weapons of Tolkien.




Arming Sword - A soldier's principal fighting sword; it was nearly always a single-handed weapon. A sword with a long handgrip that allowed it to be wielded either one or two-handed was known as a hand-and-a-half, or bastard, sword.

Arrow: Missile that was fired from a bow. Arrows would be made of wood or similar materials that were light and could be fashioned into a straight length; they were stained or painted to keep out most of the moisture and prevent warping. The arrow would have been nocked at the back so that it could fit over the string, and would feature a wiegthed head of some hard substance
