Are you ready for the fight of your life?
Like something out of ancient times, a giant arena rose from the mist that stretched on as far as the eye could see. The stadium seating around the open pit of stone was empty save one woman. At one far end of the oval, she sat in a place of honor, a throne made of velvet and bones. It wasn’t too difficult to guess that this woman was not of the normal Human variety.
The Goddess stared down at the empty arena with an expression most commonly associated with predators, like wolves. Her breathing quickened just a moment before she let out a deep sigh, her eyes flashing brightly. “Roll call,” she purred.
And one by one, her contestants appeared.
Jiten appeared about six feet up and tumbled to the ground. He quickly jumped up and brushed himself off. As he looked around for Brand, whose shoulders he had been seated on only moments ago, he noticed The Goddess sitting on her throne.
"Um... Hello," he said as he gave a confused look to the arena around him. "You wouldn't happen to know where Kirana went...?"
Within seconds, a slight pop was heard and a purfume of wine difused into the air. Another contestant had arrived, and this boy looked as if he had been in the middle of something quite intimate. Besides from his unbuttoned shirt and undone belt, one could see smudges of red lipstick on a flushed face surrounded by mousy brown hair. "Oye! Sh*t!" Johnathan proclaimed quite rudely. As of now, he struggled to pull himself up from his sprawled position on the ground. "The fu#k?"
A splatter of blood sprayed on the ground and a long blade landed in the dirt, it's hilt long and adorned without a guard. Landing next to it was a tall and unrecognizable figure hidden within a dark cloak. A long red scarf covered his face, along with black sunglasses. His hood fell revealing small feathery crests right behind his ears which were errect in his battle lust and he looked around, growling and pulled out his other modified pike and released the blade. Glancing at the other two men, "Where... are we?" Todd wiped blood from his cheek and mopped at his brow with his scarf.
Right after the first two appeared, Joshua soon followed. Joshua's right arm was above his head with a lion tamer's whip in his hand; the whip about to crack. His eyes were of courage and without fear but a split second later when the whip cracked, Joshua realized that he wasn't in the lion's den at circus anymore. Those eyes of courage suddenly changed to mass confusion, due to somehow he was teleported from his workplace to this arena that reminded him of gladiators battling to the death. Joshua then tucked into a crouching stance and he quickly survayed the place; his eyes finally resting upon the Goddess sitting on the throne of velvet and bones. With all the courage Joshua could muster from this unexpecting situation he bolding asked, "Who are you? What is this place?" Joshua's eyes were locked on to the Goddess, he was sure she was the cause of all of this.
Johnathan, having finally gotten his shirt buttoned and belt situated, looked about a bit. He felt for sure that this was some effect of a drug or something that the little tart he had previously been ingaged with had somehow given him. How ironic! "Must have been the wine...." He finally spoke while examining himself.
There was a sudden burst of wind. The few leaves that were there were picked up and danced in the air. They started to move in a circle, form the ground up. As they go higher and higher, a figured was revieled. "What the hell," Cedric asked.
In the corner, Skreeg appeared. He had apparently been in a dark room of sorts because the moment he appeared he screamed and covered his eyes. Flailing he stumbled around, pausing only to look through his fingers and utter a horrified whimper.
Off to the left side of the arena, a dark puff of smoke and a loud scream was heard. Evangelise thrust her blade into nothing and lost her balance. She picked herself up, wondering where all the demons had gone, but then she realized, she wasn't in the field anymore. She was someplace else. At first relieved she picked up her sword and sheathed
it, thinking someone must have seen her struggling and teleported her out. But then she looked around, she was in an arena. There was someone up there on a throne. The throne was made of all sorts of bones...human.
..demon...elf...She groaned with dread and pulled the sword back out just in case, saying, "Alright, what the hell is going on?"
Jiten had no idea who any of these people were, much less why they had all suddenly appeared in this arena. The only person in the immediate vicinity that seemed to know what was going on was the woman who was sitting on the throne. As a precaution against any possible attacks from his fellow... people, Jiten rendered himself invisible and walked silently about to examine those that had appeared around him.
Watching, Todd stood still, a little uneasy at this and glanced around with his dark blue eyes. The only things that revealed his emotions were his miniature crests, which kept bobbing up and down if he saw something interesting. Even though no one made any moves towards him, he kept his blades out and ready.
The Goddess settled into her throne. This was going perfectly. “Children,” she murmured. As far away as she was, her voice still carried to those below her in the massive pit. “Don't get worked up. You haven’t even heard what you are here for!”
Brushing a white strand of hair from her face, the Goddess began to speak. “I have brought you all here for an event,” she announced, making sure they were all paying close attention. “An honor, really. You are here in my tournament. It is one both of wits and strength. And there are rules… Aren’t there always rules?
“First, you must understand that there are stages. In each stage, I will give you all a goal to accomplish. The purpose of the game is to finish the feat before the others! You might find people or objects that will help you. Or hurt you. There are both, but you’ll have to decide which is which.
"You cannot leave the stage. That is not so much a rule as a... reality. You will find it impossible to exit.
“At the end of each stage, I shall judge one of the remaining… unworthy.” The Goddess smiled wider, now exposing sharper-than-usual canines. “That person… won’t continue in the game.”
The Goddess perked up as the news soaked into those assembled. She looked as though she was listening to something, and in a few seconds, the sound was heard: bells, chiming louder and louder until they stopped. “Well, there was the signal!” she announced, grinning, her eyes wide. “Good luck, and see you in a few!”
With that, she clapped her hands.
The sound traveled through the stadium like a wave, almost able to be felt, like water. When it touched the contestants, their view of the stadium disappeared as they were swept away towards A Place of Business.
