Valmir






Hails from: A work-in-progress novel called To Protect That Smile. A fantasy book set in a world quite unlike ours.

Physical Description: Valmir suffers from androgen deficiency and since he exists in a fantasy environment, he cannot get medical treatment for it. Because of the low count of testosterone, Valmir's body is not as masculine as other sixteen-year-old teenagers with a definate lack of hair and a soft voice. Despite this, he still carries a strong jawline and an able body (even though he is only five foot four). His right eye is green while his left is black. It is not a normal black, as any light shone directly at the pupil will not be reflected back. His light brown hair is short and soft, with the exception of a few strands of coarse, thick black hair near his left eye.

Mental Description: Since Valmir has androgen deficiency, depression is heavy in his mentality. He's not exactly pessimistic, but he's not optomistic either. Valmir is a very neutral male with no real desire for himself. Because of his upbringing, he's attached to Asavare, the princess he had cursed, in an unhealthy way. He allows her to make all of his decisions and will say that it does not bother him.

Interesting Tidbits: Valmir's desire is Asavare's desire. Despite this, the power of the curse has no effect on either one of them because they are users of this power.

His Tale: Valmir's home country, Shrone, exists high in a mountain range and is isolated from the rest of the world. When he was born, his mother died in childbirth. Valmir's soul reached out for a kindred spirit. At the exact same time, the princess of the country was being born. Valmir's desire was to have a life-long companion. His desire, the power of the curse, killed Asavare's mother along with any child five years or younger and stopped the Shronian women from conceiving for five years. This was to ensure that Asavare would only have Valmir as a playmate and thus become his closest companion.
The Shronians figured out Valmir's curse and attempted to kill him. But each time they tried, something got in the way or malfunctioned. They gave up trying to kill him, but the citizens refused to accept Valmir into Shronian culture. The communistic country expected everyone to have a skill in order to be worthwhile for the economy. Valmir was taught no skills and so was useless. He was raised with minimal care and was not allowed in the community baths or to eat with the people when they ate. Asavare was one of the few that was kind to Valmir.
When Shrone was invaded, Valmir was mistaken as a woman and taken to the King of Dai Tsun's harem while Asavare went to the Dai Tsun slave mines, mistaken as a man. There, the King of Dai Tsun became obsessed with Valmir and his kind, untainted nature. Through the King's actions, Valmir's power was understood to the full extent, going so far as to utilize that power in war.
Eventually, the war ended and the world was at peace. Asavare and Valmir were reunited and she demanded that they travel to see everything. Valmir became a nomad with Asavare, travelling the countryside peacefully.

The Curse Details: The power of the curse is desire. It is linked with the world and with time. Most of the time, Valmir's desires are met because of coincidences.
For instance; the King of Dai Tsun will kill a Shronian woman in his harem every hour. Valmir direly wishes that no one would be killed. And so, as a Shronian woman is about to be murdered, the blade of the axe suddenly falls off. The wood had been rotting for sometime, but the executioner didn't have the money to repair it. Each time an attempt to take a Shronian woman's life is had, something happens to prevent it. Coincidence? Or Valmir's desire?
