Vincent - Christine

Strong Bond

She was soft, gentle—probably one of the most beautiful—and delicate— things in the world. He loved to listen to her sing—and although there was a certain soft quality to it—it was most certainly an amazingly gifted voice. It was always surprising how that little body could project so many beautifully powerful notes. No song was too difficult for her to master. She did it was such ease, such joy. He was glad that there was something that made her happy.

Christine’s song finished on a note of perfect clarity and she stood a moment longer, hands clasped over her heart. Her eyes fluttered opened. She took a moment to realize where she was—the music room—before she turned expectantly towards Vincent. She smiled.

“Did you like it? Your songs are always so beautiful… I hope I pronounced everything right… the old language is so different than ours. But it’s so pretty too…” One hand dropped from her heart and she sighed quietly, serenely, and leaned against the quiet piano she stood beside. “You should write music, Vincent…”

Vincent laughed quietly and rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. “No, I don’t think so. You’re the one that makes the songs worthwhile to listen to. I’m not a poet…” He fixed his glasses. “You always give me an inspiration for a new violin song. I swear, you can match a melody perfectly with anything.”

Christine giggled shyly. She made a soft noise of non-comment and her golden gaze shifted away to stare with a faraway expression at the distant wall. Her gentle hands clasped tightly together in front of her. The little streams of light filtering in through the arched windows near the grand piano caught every white surface on her body—her hair, eyelashes and clothes—and left it shimmering delicately. Sometimes Vincent swore the rumors were true. Christine was an angel in both appearance and soul.

Vincent let out a pleasant little sigh and scribbled a few notes onto a piece of paper. He was most sure that this next song was going to be quite nice. He had problems with perfecting things and wasn’t always able to find the right notes. He found these little errors the perfect way to get to spend time with his father. Yami had mastered several instruments over the years and was nothing short of a maestro. Although Yami could easily find time for any of his children, Vincent enjoyed that bond that they had over the violin. It was something special… something meaningful.

“Vincent?” she asked quietly, looking to him. “May I ask you a favor?”

“Hmm?” Vincent mumbled, adding a few notes to the song.

Christine hesitated. “There’s… something I’ve always wanted to learn… But I rarely seem to have the energy. So, I never bothered to ask anyone…”

“What is it?” Vincent asked, glancing up at her.

“I want to know how to dance. Like how a couple dances… I fear that the day when I meet someone to love and to hold I won’t be able to take their hand and dance… I’m afraid that by then it may be too late to learn…” She didn’t quite have the courage to go any further. Everyone knew that the young woman’s mind and body were slowly giving away with each passing year. No one wanted to admit it, especially not Christine.

Vincent paused for a moment—not because he had to think about that particular request—but because his mind went to a time in the future that he wasn’t sure he’d ever be prepared for. There would be a time when Christine wouldn’t be here anymore… there would be a time in the future when all of them—the whole family—would start slipping away. Vincent swallowed thickly and set down the quill. It was not something he often let his mind drift to.

The demon stood, brushing his hands off onto his trousers and stepping over the piano bench he had been sitting on. He took his sisters hand. “That seems like a most grand idea, Christine.” A slow smile crept onto lips and when he spoke there was a hint of laughter, “I have the sneaking suspicion you’re only picking me because of my height.” /Lighten the mood—let’s get our minds off the unpredictable future./

Christine looked at him with a started and confused look, but her expression slowly grew into one of humorous understanding. It was very true that of all of the boys Yami, Vincent and Miles were the closest to her height. She just happened to be taller than all of them still. Not by much… but it was still worth a little laugh.

“Well, shall we get started?” Vincent asked, smiling.

Christine nodded. It would most certainly be nice to learn something new.

Especially since her window of opportunity was beginning to close.

[Ramirez]

A/N:Wow, this took over a month to get the next story bond up... I'm not proud of that. Bond 36/81 of a project I'm working on.

I've had a lot of personal things going on the last couple of weeks and on top of school work and stuff, so I blame that partly on why this took so long to get up... Didn't turn out great or very long, but at least something was finally written.

Vincent and Christine are pretty close and can ask each other for anything. They're pretty cool siblings. Both of them are pretty soft-spoken and gentle so it's a little hard to keep the story rolling which is why I stopped and started it were it was. Yeah... Might eventually go back and lengthen some of these story bonds. We'll see.
